He was going from Ludhiana to Jalandhar but could not noticed the stationary truck in the dark. The police have registered a case against the truck driver who managed to escape. The body of the deceased has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem. OC THIEVES MAKE OFF WITH GOLD, CASH Phagwara: The house of newly married couple in Gandhi Chowk near police station, Phagwara, was reportedly burgled on Saturday night. Ashutosh Gautam told the police that the burglars entered his house after breaking locks and took away gold ornaments and Rs 5 lakh, besides some other valuable goods. The family members were away at the time of burglary. The police have registered a case. OC KERALA STUDENT'S BIKE STOLEN Phagwara: The bike of Kerala resident Jasuria S was found stolen before his rented house in the local Satnampura locality here on Saturday night. OC THREE BOOKED FOR ATTACK Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Dilpreet Singht of Garden Colony, Phagwara, the police have registered a case against three persons on the charges of attacking and injuring the complainant who was admitted to a hospital. The accused were identified as Gurdwara Singh of village Darvesh, Raman Bains of Narangshahpur and David of Hadiabad. One car and a bike were also damaged by the assailants.The personal enmity was said to be the cause of attack. OC Farmers to block NH at Phagwara from today WOMAN DIES IN ACCIDENT Phagwara: A woman died in an accident caused by stray cattle. The deceased belonged to Kaushaliya of Talwann village. Navdeep Gadu of the village told the police that his parents Baldev Raj and Kaushaliya were on a motorcycle. When they reached Poadharra village, stray cattle came on the road. Their motorcycle went out of control and collided with a combine parked on the roadside, injuring them. Theywere rushed to DMC Ludhiana, but his mother died on the way. A case has been registered . oc Hoshiarpur, October 20 Some assailants on motorcycles opened fire on a family travelling in a car in village Chakkowal, killing fatherson duo this evening. Kashmiri Lal of village Talwandi Araiyan was going to a hospital at Chakkowal with his son Amarjit Lal, his wife and children around 8:30 pm to see a newborn baby born in the family when unknown assailants riding on motorcycles stopped them on the way and started firing. Kashmiri Lal and his son received gunshots and were seriously injured. They were taken to the hospital where they died. The old rivalry is likely to be the reason. According to sources, the case has some foreign hand. The people who had enmity with Kashmiri Lal were abroad and it is believed that they would have carried out this murderous attack through contract killers. Seek support for protest against non-lifting of paddy in mandis Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, October 20 Announcements are being made outside the grain markets, asking the farmers to come to Phagwara and join farmers’ protest on October 21. The farmers under the banner of the BKU (Doaba) and BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) announced to launch an indefinite blockade of the national highway at Phagwara from Monday. No lifting has started even after the procurement began on October 1. This has irked farmers. They have been expressing anger against the government for not paying heed towards their demands. BKU (Doaba) president Manjit Singh Rai recently held a press conference in which he announced that the farmers would start an indefinite dharna at Phagwara in front of the sugar mill from October 21 at 10 am. In a video shared by the farmer unions, the announcement was being made through a loudspeaker outside a grain market in which support has been sought from every farmer. “Apne tractor laike Dhanduar mandi ikathe ho jaao (Bring your tractors to Dhanduar mandi in Phagwara from where the protest will start),” the announcement heard. Drivers die in trucks’ head-on collision Our Correspondent Garhshankar, October 20 The drivers of two canters died in a head-on collision between the vehicles near village Bahowal on the Chandigarh-Hoshiarpur road today. According to information, Harjeet Singh (45), a resident of Ludhiana, was driving a canter from Hoshiarpur to Chandigarh. When he reached the bridge of village Bahowal, he collided with a canter coming from the opposite direction, which was being driven by Barinder Pal, resident of UP . The collision was so severe that both drivers died on the spot and the bodies of both could be taken out only after cutting the vehicles. Due to the collision on the bridge, the ChandigarhHoshiarpur main road was completely blocked. The Chabbewal police took both the vehicles into custody and started investigating the causes of the accident. INTACH urges CM to include cultural heritage in education curriculum Avneet Kaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, October 20 The Punjab chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) through its state convener Maj Gen Balwinder Singh (retd) has written to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging the inclusion of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage in the school and college curricula. The letter emphasised the urgent need to educate the younger generation about the state’s cultural legacy to preserve it for future generations. In the letter, INTACH highlighted a concerning disconnect between students and their cultural heritage. The convener expressed worry over the fact that today’s youth are largely unaware of the historical and cultural treasures that form the backbone of Punjab’s identity. Describing the situation as ‘Do or Die’, they stress that immediate action is necessary to prevent the erosion of Punjab’s cultural fabric. “We believe that integrating cultural heritage education into the formal curricula will not only foster a deep connection between students and their roots but also promote values of tolerance, respect and pride in cultural diversity”, Balwinder Singh said, adding that cultural and heritage education plays a vital Bond of love role in shaping well-rounded personalities. It helps students appreciate their own culture and learn to respect the cultures of others. Moreover, the INTACH Punjab has proposed that the government collaborate with them to develop educational modules that cover both tangible and intangible aspects of Punjab’s heritage. “These could be taught through various engaging methods. Special classes could be designated in the school week, focusing solely on the state’s history, architecture, literature, art and traditional practices. Field visits to historical sites, museums and cultural hubs will allow students to experience their heritage. The award was conferred on him by a panel headed by Prof Jaswant Singh Gandam. The panel’s general secretary Gurmit Palahi told newspersons that the award carried a cash of Rs 51,000, a shawl, a memento and a citation. Police enhance security amid festive season YOUTH KILLED IN ACCIDENT Phagwara: A 20-year-old youth was killed in an accident. The deceased had been identified as Gaurav of Sahem village in Nakodar. Raveena sister of the deceased told the police that her brother, who was riding his motorcycle, suddenly fell on the road and died due to head injury. Bhogal (Bhogal’s sons). His daughter Deepa was also present on the occasion. The nonagenarian Prof Bhogal, who had penned down about 60 books, had died sometimes back. He had always championed Punjabi language and stood for Pun- jab and Punjabiat. A former DGP of Meghalaya, Dr Swaraj Bir had penned down over a dozen plays, three poetry books and served as Editor of Punjabi Tribune for many years. A seminar on the topic of “Present political situation of country and Pun- c m y b jab’s role in it” was also held on this occasion. In his keynote address, Dr Swaraj Bir, paying tributes to Prof Piara Singh Bhogal, described him as a bridge between Punjabi and Hindi writers. He opined that distinct geographical situation and certain other regional conditions and happenings had injected the spirit of ‘nabri’(defiance) in Punjabi ethos. Mentioning other factors like preachings of Sikh Gurus, Sufi/Bhagati movements, Sidh-Jogi ‘parampara’, Dalits lehar, kissakars in sculpting features of Punjab, he asserted, “We can not allow ourselves to tumble down into the gorge of disappointment”. “Kisans, Dalits, workers and artisans can unite together for gener- ating energy for waging a struggle against fissiparous forces”, he remarked. He called ‘Babar Bani’ of Guru Nanak as an energising voice for fighting against political injustice. He said, “ The present political scenario is that the Centre, dominating politics of some other states, wanted to turn the country’s politics towards a certain side. It can not happen because the country can not be seen in one colour as it is kaleidoscopic.” On the role of Punjab in this situation, Dr Swaraj Bir said, “By giving birth to Kisan Andolan in 2021, Punjab played a historic role by pulling out people from the gorge of disappointment. Poor road, resident sends letter to MC Tribune News Service Jalandhar, October 20 Fed up with poor road in his area, a resident has shot off a letter to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Jalandhar. Munish Kumar from New Model House, in his letter to the Commissioner, stated that sewage pipes were to laid in front of Shehanshah Palace to Kala Sanghian Road, but even after the work was completed, the road was not constructed/repaired. “MLA Mohinder Bhagat had inaugurated the work in August. The work got completed, but the road is in a deplorable state. The authorities have now turned a blind eye towards the issue. I had also called the MLA to bring it to his notice, but, until now nothing has been done,” he said. Munish Kumar further alleged that no work was being done on the road for the last 25 days. Munish, in her letter, also took a dig at the working of the corporation in which he asked the officials to ensure that his file doesn’t get lost like others. He added that the residents of the area were facing problems because of the poor road. “The residents are harassed because of the poor condition of the road,” he added.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.

The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
