ASI Satnam Singh narrowly escaped in the firing incident as a bullet pierced through his turban. In retaliatory fire, the snatcher, identified as Vishal of Tarn Taran, was injured. He was later admitted to hospital for treatment. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, while sharing details of the incident, said that three bikeborne armed snatchers had robbed Gurpreet Singh of Ram Tirath Road area two days ago. He was coming from Gumtala to Mahal village bypass when the incident took place. His accomplice Vishal and Nirvail Singh of Jhabal (Tarn Taran), man- aged to flee the scene. Bhullar said that during investigations, the police arrested Vishal who disclosed that he had hidden a pistol on Ram Tirath Road. The police team escorted him to the spot for recovery of weapon where he pretended to be ill to hoodwink the cops. Later, he took out the loaded pistol from the spot where it was hidden and fired at the police team. The bullet pierced ASI Satnam Singh’s turban. Following this, police post in-charge ASI Amar Singh fired at him which hit him in the leg. He said raids were on to nab their third accomplice. Earlier, DGP Gaurav Yadav, while taking to X, had said, “In a swift operation, Amritsar city police commissionerate dismantled a gang involved in armed snatching.” The DGP said Punjab Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards crime, demonstrating unwavering commitment to public safety and dismantling organised crime across Punjab. ATP gets power to okay building plan Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 9 In a relief to residents, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Aulakh has empowered the Assistant Town Planner (ATP) for approving the building plans, granting of no-objection certificate (NOC) and compounding fee. Earlier, to get residential NOC, compounding of fee and approval of building plan from the Municipal Corporation (MC), the applicant had to submit file to clerical staff, then get it approved by the Municipal Town Planner (MTP) after the go-ahead of building inspector and Assistant Town Planner (ATP). The process was cumbersome and used to take a lot of time to get the approval from higher officials. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh has now given rights to get residential NOC, compound and approval of building plan 1,200 MT DAP reaches district Amritsar, November 9 The administration stated that 1,200 Metric Tonnes of DAP (Di-ammonia phosphate) fertiliser has reached the district which is being distributed to the farmers under the supervision of senior officials. The administration stated that a total of 30,000 MT DAP is required for sowing of wheat and other crops during the season. Till now, nearly 22,000 MT fertiliser has already reached the farmers. Agriculture officials stated that a large number of farmers are also using triple super phosphate and other fertilisers as an alternate to the DAP to get the same amount of nitrogen and phosphorous. DC Sakshi Sawhney said the DAP is being provided to cooperative societies and private traders in 60:40 ratio. She said in areas where agricultural cooperative societies are defunct, the administration has asked farmers to get fertilisers from the nearest operational society. Chief Agriculture Officer Tajinder Singh said for any information regarding use of alternate fertilisers, the farmers can contact agriculture officers of their respective areas. — TNS Will also give NOC, compounding fee to ATPs only. Amritsar, November 9 After a gap of about a decade, the Public Works Department (PWD) is in the process to finalise the paper work to relay internal roads of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Bus drivers have been complaining of potholes on the internal roads and were demanding to relay the stretches. They had also been demanding to undertake repair work on link roads around the ISBT but to no avail. Gurbhej Singh, a driver, said: “They have been finding it tough to drive on the potholed roads which become pools even after a light rain. The bad roads are causing unnecessary wear and tear of vehicles.” Commuters complain of inconvenience while travelling in a bus inside the ISBT. Regarding repair of roads, Talwar said he had already written a letter to the Managing Director of PUNBUS in this regard. For potholes, he had notified officials in earlier meetings, he had stated. The condition of potholed roads has turned worse due to the high footfall of visitors and movement of buses. Paramjit Singh, General Manager of Punjab Roadways, said the PWD would relay the internal roads of the ISBT at a cost of Rs 1.28 crore. He assured that the tendering process was in the final stage and the roadways would pay 50 per cent of the tender amount. A Vigilance Bureau official said that a complaint was lodged by Dilbag Singh, a resident of village Dhunda in Khadoor Sahib. Dilbag Singh alleged in his complaint that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for producing a record in his favour in a police case being heard in trial court. The Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap during which the accused ASI was caught while accepting the bribe money in the presence of two official witnesses.
