The traffic police installed barricades at the entrance of the market and even at some other entry points around the market to prevent entry of vehicles. Only rush of pedestrians was seen in the market. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 30 After a migrant died after he was hit by a bus at Samrala Chowk here on Saturday afternoon, kin of the deceased, along with large number of migrants, gathered at the scene and held a protest. The protest caused traffic jam for sometime. It was only when the police told the protesters that the bus driver had been arrested and a case was registered against him, the protest was lifted. As per information, the deceased, identified as Vinod Singh (53), was present in Samrala when a bus of an educational institute hit him. The victim suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Migrant dies after being hit by bus, kin hold protest Ludhiana, November 30 An incident of a fruit vendor being beaten to death has come to light at Bija village of Khanna in Ludhiana district. A person, who was allegedly drunk, did not pay for bananas after purchasing them. Following which a dispute arose between him and the victim. Following which, the suspect called his son and his friends and got the vendor beaten up. The vendor lost his life in the incident. The 50-year-old victim was identified as Tejinder Kumar Bobby. Chandeshwar Kumar, who works at the deceased’s shop, said on Friday night when the owner was not present, a person from the village came to the vend. When he did not pay after buying bananas, he asked for money. In reply, the suspect caught him by his neck. Afterwards, the latter called the vend owner, Tejinder. The suspect also called his son and his companions. As soon as the accused’s son arrived, he punched the shop owner in the head and badly beaten him up. The vendor fell on the ground. When the victim was taken to a Civil Hospital, doctors declared him dead. After getting information, Khanna DSP Amritpal Singh Bhati reached the scene along with Sadar SHO Sukhwinderpal Singh. He also checked CCTV camera footage. Then he came to the Civil Hospital and talked to victim’s family members. As per the CCTV footage, it was found that Tejinder crossed the road during the fight and then fell on the ground. Later, he was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Gym employee AQI remains poor in city Couple booked in property fraud case booked for molesting female colleague Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 30 A floor manager of a gym near the Chandigarh road molested its female manager. The woman lodged a complaint at the Division 7 police station, following which the police registered an FIR against the suspect on Friday. The victim also provided the CCTV footage, which substantiated her claim. The woman said she worked as a centre manager at Elevate Wellness Club and Gym from January 15, 2023, to July 11, 2024. The suspect, Gurjeet Singh, alias Ubhi, a resident of Partap Chowk, was the floor manager of the gym. He often used to physically harass her. She had also told the gym owner about the matter but they did not take any action. The victim said on June 14, she was alone in the trainer’s rest room, when the suspect caught her from behind. Afterwards, he started touching her inappropriately. The incident was also captured in a CCTV camera installed in the gym, the footage of which was given to the police as evidence. According to the victim, when she lodged a complaint with the police, the man threatened to kill her and get her fired from the job. He also went to her house and threatened her ailing father. She said she got fed up with the suspect and started working in another gym but there too Gurjeet started speaking abusive words about her dignity due to which she was forced to complain to the police. The suspect had been working in the gym for the past several years. She said she had worked in the same gym earlier also, in 2019, but at that time she had worked for six months only. Investigating officer ASI Palwinder Singh said after registering a case, efforts were on to catch the man. One of the reasons for no improvement in air quality has been the absence of rain. ASHWANI DHIMAN Shivani Bhakoo Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 30 The harvesting season has come to an end. But there seems to be no respite as far as air quality index (AQI) is concerned. The air remained “poor” even in the past one week, forcing the elderly and small children to remain indoors. One of the major reasons for no improvement in the air quality has been the absence of rain in the past more than two months. Amritpal Singh Chahal, XEN, PPCB, when asked about the reason for “poor” quality air, said there were no rain in the region for the past about three months. “Rain plays an important role in settling dust particles, smog in the air but this time, the spell of bad air was prolonged due to the absence of rain. Even one day of rain will bring much difference,” he said. The air quality index in Ludhiana as per the data available with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that in the entire last week, the quality of air was “poor”. On November 29, it was 256 while on November 28, 27, 26 and 25, it was 258, 227, 182 and 139, respectively. While on November 30 last c m y b year, AQI was 176, followed by 185, 246, 241, 250 and 202 on November 29, 28, 27, 26 and 25, respectively. The AQI last year was also poor and year on, these dates also remain poor despite the strictness adopted by law enforcing agencies to register a huge number of FIRs against those responsible for farm fires in the region. Satwinder Singh, a, octogenarian, said thankfully they were able to get the sunlight, which provides much needed respite. “Otherwise, things would have been miserable if we remain inside the four walls all the time,” he said. Ludhiana, November 30 The Sarabha Nagar police on Friday registered a fraud case against a couple. After striking a property deal, the suspects took money from the buyer and then refused to execute the property registration. They have been identified as Gurwinderpal Singh and his wife Gurmeet Kaur, residents of Punjab Housing Board Colony, BRS Nagar. The complainant in the case, Munish Goyal, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, said the couple had struck a deal to sell their house and in lieu, they had taken Rs 16 lakh in advance. Despite taking the money, they refused to transfer the property ownership. At the time of the property registration, they started making excuses. Despite repeated requests, the couple neither executed property registration nor they return the money. The complainant said the suspects had intentionally committed a fraud as they might have decided to take the money and then would not transfer the ownership. Six dupe city resident of ~75L Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 30 A Ludhiana resident was duped by six persons of Rs 75 lakh. The suspects have been identified as Piyush Ahuja, Aditya Chakraborty, Pawan Kumar, Yerramsetti Venkata Bharatha of ADC F&B Nutriment Products Private Limited, Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Rajinder Kumar and Rakesh Kumar, both from Kaithal, Haryana. The complainant, Ashok Jindal, of Industrial Area A, here, told the police that the suspects allured him to start a business with their company. They assured that he would sell their products in Haryana, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, NCR, Uttarakhand, UP and Rajasthan and through this practice, he could earn huge returns. They made him the in-charge of selling their products. Later, the suspects told him to construct a warehouse of 4,000 sq feet for the master depot, with an office of 200 sq ft. “As we fulfilled their requirements, the suspects took Rs 75 lakh from us as security. Despite taking the entire money, they did not start any company operations and also refused to return the money,” he said. Investigating officer ASI Jagtar Singh said after registering a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) further investigation was launched in the matter. Man loses ~63 lakh to fraudsters Ludhiana, November 30 The PAU police on Friday registered a case against a man who duped a city resident of Rs 63 lakh on the the pretext of investing money in the business of cars. After receiving money, the suspect failed to start any business. The suspect was identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bajra village. The complainant, Kul- winder Singh, a resident of Haibowal Khurd, here, told the police that he, along with Bhupinder Singh, had met the suspect who asked them to invest money in the business of cars and assured that the business would give huge returns. Believing the suspect’s claim, Rs 63 lakh was given to him. After taking the money, the man failed to give any profit or return on the investment and whenever they asked him to return the money, he would make hollow promises. Afterwards, a complaint was lodged against the suspect with the police in July last year and after month-long investigation, they registered a case against him. ASI Harcharan Singh said after registering a case, further probe was launched in this regard. — TNS
