He demanded that the government form a committee to take stock of the situation through visits of the elected representatives who are members of this panel. He also emphasised that due to toxicity in these water channels, lakhs of people are suffering. Speaking in Parliament, Aujla said that the problem of polluted water is at its peak in Punjab. Industrial waste water, dairy residue and municipal waste are flowing into Tung Dhab drain in Amritsar and Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana, due to which the water is badly contaminated and cannot even be treated. He claimed that due to this, the number of cancer patients is increasing, especially in cities like Fazilka, Moga and Abohar. The MP alleged that the pollution control department was not doing anything, the drainage department was also silent and civic bodies were not taking the issue seriously. — TNS Police seize 10-kg heroin, ~4.45L drug money from separate areas PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, December 5 In the first case, the CI confiscated 5 kg of heroin along with ~4.45 lakh of drug money from their possession and arrested three persons in this connection. In the second, the city police seized 5 kg of heroin from three persons. DGP Gaurav Yadav said in an intelligence-based operation, the CI, Amritsar, arrested Husanpreet Singh, a resident of Prime City in Chheharta area, Karandeep Singh, aka Manna, and Maninder Singh of the Attari grain market. He said the CI got a tip-off that Karandeep and Maninder were involved in trans-border drug peddling and that they had recently retrieved a huge consignment of drugs dropped by drones. They were going to deliver the same to Husanpreet Singh. The informer told the police that they were going towards the Punjabi Bagh marriage resort on the Amritsar-Attari road following which a naka was put up there and a bikeborne person was intercepted. He was later identified as Husanpreet Singh and two other accused were also nabbed from the spot who had come to hand over the drugs to him. Acting swiftly, police teams arrested the accused persons from near Escort Hospital area in Amritsar. The drugs were smuggled through Mehadipur village. He said all the three suspects were friends and their villages are located in Dera Baba Nanak border belt. Harpartap was the kingpin and he became active in cross-border drug smuggling around two and a half months ago. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act by the Sadar police station here. c m y b Amritsar, December 5 After a gap of 17 months, the Municipal Corporation is finally going to resume the metro bus service under Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on December 6. Officials of the Municipal Corporation along with MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh conducted a technical run of the metro bus in BRTS corridor today. Aulakh boarded the bus and inspected the BRTS route. The MC will restart the operation of metro bus on a trial basis from Friday onward. The MC has outsourced the work to a private firm, which hired drivers on collector rates. The firms outsourced for technical staff were already working with the BRTS and the MC has asked them to resume their services. MC officials claimed that the repair of buses was going on and 60 buses would start operating soon. MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh said, “Today, we have conducted a technical run and inspected the route of BRTS.
