Earlier in the day, a “jatha” of 101 farmers began a march to Delhi to press for various demands, including a legal guarantee for MSP and debt waiver, from Shambhu. The “jatha” was stopped 200 metres short of the border on the Ghaggar bridge where multi-layered barricades had been placed by Haryana security personnel. The police asked the farmers not to proceed further, citing prohibitory orders clamped by the Ambala district administration under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) that prohibits the assembly of five or more persons. The RBI, however, cut the gross domestic product (GDP) forecast to 6.6 per cent for the current financial year from its earlier projection of 7.2 per cent. The RBI has maintained the repo rate at 6.5 per cent since February 2023. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
