Another girl accompanying the three escaped unhurt. Police sources said they suspected an inter-gang rivalry behind the incident. The deceased gangster, Vinit Gahlot, alias Vicky, a resident of Mitrau village, near Najafgarh, Delhi, had cases of murder, dacoity and Arms Act registered against him in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Uttar Pradesh. He was associated with the Manjeet Mahal gang active in Delhi NCR, sources in the police said. According to the FIR registered at the Pinjore police station, around three assailants opened fire at him and his group when they were about to get into their car after attending a birthday party at the resort. The other two deceased have been identified as Tirath, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi; and Vandana, alias Nia, a resident of Uchana Kalan village in Jind. Similar conditions will continue for the next two days. — TNS Chandigarh, December 23 Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar today placed an executive engineer under suspension for granting unauthorised permission to Bharti Airtel Limited to set up three mobile towers on wheels at the exhibition ground in Sector 34 for Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert on December 14. The towers were to be installed temporarily for ensuring uninterrupted network during the event. Ajay Garg, the Executive Engineer, Roads, Division No 3, Municipal Corporation, allegedly granted permission on December 13 to Bharti Airtel for installing three mobile towers on a temporary basis to cover the network on December 14. The firm deposited Rs 20,000 plus GST into the MC bank account. Garg granted the permission continued on page 2 Sohana building owners sent to five-day police remand, contractor named in FIR Tribune News Service Mohali, December 23 A local court today sent the owners of the multi-storey building, which collapsed in Sohana two days ago, to a fiveday police remand. The police have nominated contractor Suresh Kumar in the FIR. Building owners Parwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, residents of Chao Majra, who were booked for culpable homicide, were arrested yesterday. The DSP (City-2), Harsimran Singh Bal, said, “Police teams are carrying out raids to arrest the contractor.” The collapse of the threestory building housing the “Royal Gym and Cardio” in the basement and the ground floor, and a paying guest (PG) facility on the two upper Debris being removed from the site at Sohana, Mohali, where a building collapsed on Saturday. Youth dies as SUV rams into tree in Sec 34 Tribune News Service Chandigarh, December 23 A 19-year-old youth, Rounak, was killed and three others were injured when a speeding SUV (Thar) collided with a tree in Sector 34 last night. Rounak, a resident of Mohali, along with his friends Aryak, a Sector 21 resident; Dhanajay and Vinayak, both from Ambala, had gone for dinner at a restaurant in Sector 34. While returning, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed the SUV into a tree. The front part of the vehicle was completely damaged. Hearing the loud sound, local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police about the accident. All injured were rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared Rounak dead on arrival. The condition of Aryak, who was sitting on the front passenger seat, is said to be critical. Dhananjay and Vinayak, who were sitting behind, suffered minor injuries. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem. The police have registered a case and started investigation. Speeding and negligence are believed to be the main reasons for the accident, said a police officer.
