This is the fourth arrest in the case. Kuldeep is accused of being involved in the plot to extort Rs 50 lakh from the family of Rajnish Bansal, a complainant in a CBI case against Vishal. According to the police, Kuldeep is a maternal uncle of Kartik Sharma, another accused in the case. Investigations revealed that on December 24, Kartik video-called Kuldeep, instructing him to collect the extortion money from Bansal’s family. The threats were reportedly issued through Rohit Gujjar, who claimed to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and also used Kartik’s contact details to intimidate the Bansals. On January 12, the police had arrested Kartik’s paternal uncle Subhash and maternal cousin Manoj Kumar for their alleged role in the case. TNS Chandigarh, January 19 To enhance the safety of cyclists and pedestrians, the UT Administration has decided to install timers at lights installed for them at intersections. The first such signal with timer will be set up at the Sector 22/23 light point as a pilot project to ensure safer road crossing. The initiative was discussed during a recent meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav. During the meeting, the XEN (Electrical) informed the committee that the tender process for the pilot project at the Sector 22/23 light point was underway. The committee chairman directed members to identify additional locations for installing such signals with timer. A traffic police official said the lights for pedestrians and cyclists currently don’t have timers. The trio, including Aspreet Singh and Hardeep Singh, had hired a taxi from Shimla to Samrala. When they reached Gharuan at night, they thrashed the taxi driver and fled with the vehicle. The taxi driver, Lovepreet Singh, informed the police following which a hunt was launched. The police said the owner of the vehicle, Rajesh Sood of Ludhiana, had installed a GPS tracker in the vehicle through which the location of the NINE ROAD FATALITIES IN 18 DAYS ■ Even as the Chandigarh Police are observing National Road Safety Month, the city roads continue to claim lives, with nine fatalities reported so far this year. ■ On January 17, a 43-year-old woman, Reena, died in a road accident near Rally Ground, Sector 25. Both Reena and the motorcyclist, identified as Neeraj, were injured and rushed to the hospital where Reena succumbed to her injuries. A case was registered against Neeraj at the Sector 11 police station. Kuldeep’s arrest comes as police authorities deepen their probe into the extortion case. Police officials stated that Kuldeep’s role in facilitating the operation was under scrutiny, with evidence linking him to key communications regarding the extortion plot. Vishal Deep, who was previously questioned in Panchkula after being brought from Mumbai, remains a central figure in the probe. He is currently being interrogated by the CBI. The police are now focusing on unearthing the network behind the extortion attempt, which allegedly involved a notorious gang and persons close to the ED official. The Unchahar Express, New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi, and New Delhi-Amb Andaura Vande Bharat Express reported significant delays, disrupting travel plans of passengers. The Unchahar Express (14217), which runs from Prayagraj to Chandigarh and back, arrived in the city at 8.03 pm — nearly 11 hours past its scheduled arrival of 9.15 am. Even the famed New DelhiKalka Shatabdi (12011), known for its speed and reliability, chugged into the city late by an hour and 34 minutes. “The Shatabdi has always been the pride of Indian Railways. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
