He expressed serious concern over the inadequate food sampling and measures to check the manufacturing, sale and consumption of adulterated and sub-standard food products, posing health hazards to consumers, in the district. The Deputy Commissioner asked the Health Department officials to make sweets and bakery manufacturers, as well as milk vendors and their employees, aware about proper hygiene practices in food preparation. He urged the food business operators to cooperate and comply with the government guidelines to ensure that safe and healthy food products were provided to the consumers. However, he also instructed food safety officials not to harass any food business operators on the pretext of sampling, while making it clear that those involved in food adulteration will face strict consequences. Following which, they attacked the bus at the village,” they said. Jagmail Singh, a passenger from Nidampur in Sangrur, who was going towards Pipli, said he was sitting near the driver’s seat when the incident occurred. “The driver was not at fault. He has been victimised for no reason,” he added. Some of the passengers were shocked due to the incident. The hooliganism by the youths led to widespread resentment among onlookers. Roadways staff blocked the national highway and staged a dharna, demanding arrest of the suspects by the Sahnewal police. Traffic came to a complete halt as the roadways staff refused to lift the dharna till their demand is met. On assurance by the Sahnewal police, the protesters lift the protest. However, they warned to resume the protest in front of the Sahnewal police station on Friday if the latter failed to act in the matter. The dharna lasted for about an hour which led to chaos on the road. The police had a tough time managing the situation. Manually done repair work does not last long and the pothole patching machines are lying unused. These have become ‘white elephants’ due to improper usage by the civic body. The corporation had spent Rs 3.86 crore on two such machines, which work by using infrared recycling technology to fix potholes but it seems the time-consuming procedure is taking a toll on their functioning. Ludhiana, February 6 For developing sports culture among children, Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga inaugurated a firstof-its-kind project to establish a sports park in Ward 94 in the Ludhiana North constituency on Thursday. The project is being taken up at a cost of around Rs 72 lakh and infrastructure would be developed for different games such as cricket, badminton, volleyball and basketball. MLA Madan Lal Bagga and councillor Aman Bagga said a unique initiative had been taken up for developing sports parks in different areas of the North constituency and Project is being taken up at a cost of around ~72L and infra will be developed for different games first such park would be established in Ward 94. The initiative aims to develop sports culture among residents, especially children, which would also keep them healthy. More such parks would be established in the North constituency in the future.
