Two mobile medical vans to be rolled out within two months In a step towards making health facilities available to each and every resident, who cannot even reach out to the nearest health centre, the district administration has come up with an ambitious plan to roll out mobile medical vans for the doorstep health services in Ludhiana within the next two months. Brainchild of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, the first-of-its-kind community healthcare programme would be launched with the roll out The first-of-its-kind community healthcare programme is a brainchild of DC Jitendra Jorwal. HIMANSHU MAHAJAN of two mobile medical vans in the first phase of the pilot project at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh. “It will be another public outreach programme under which doctors and paramedical staff will roam around the district to provide health check-up, treatment and other allied services on their doorsteps without charging a single penny,” Jorwal told The Tribune. Charing a meeting with the district officials concerned and representatives from NGOs involved in the project, the DC said the administration would purchase the speciallydesigned vans from the Red Cross Society funds. “Each van will be staffed by a specialist doctor and medical interns to perform health check-ups of the people on their doorsteps,” he said while informing that a detailed duty roster would be prepared for the operation of the mobile vans. Jorwal said the vans would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to provide high-quality medical care. “They will be capable of conducting tests such as blood pressure readings, ECGs, HIV tests and other diagnostics, in addition to offering other treatment and health services,” he shared while stating that serious cases will be referred to nearest hospitals for further assessment, as advised by the doctor. The DC said the services will target villages in the first phase while urban areas will be covered in the second phase. “Mobile units will offer comprehensive check-ups, especially for women, the elderly and children, without the need for travel,” he said. Jorwal expressed optimism that the innovative programme would serve as a catalyst for providing quality healthcare and diagnostic services directly to the community. He also envisioned that the vans would transform the healthcare landscape by delivering free and high-quality mobile healthcare services, particularly in remote rural areas. “The initiative aims to bridge the healthcare gap and ensure that quality medical care is accessible to every corner of Ludhiana,” the DC added. Ensure cleanliness across city areas, health officials told Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 7 Mayor Inderjit Kaur, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar and Deputy Mayor Prince Johar conducted a meeting with health branch officials at the MC Zone A office near the Mata Rani chowk on Friday. Directions were issued to them to ensure cleanliness across city areas and attendance of sweepers at the ground level. The Health Department officials have been directed to post pictures while marking attendance of sweepers in the field. MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Sanitation Officer Ashwani Sahota, Health Officer Vipal Malhotra, Chief Sanitary Inspectors (CSIs) and sanitary inspectors (SIs) were among those present in the meeting. Mayor Inderjit Kaur said their aim was to make Ludhiana the number 1 city. The action was taken following a complaint by family members of Amna Pandori, who was shot dead on Diwali on November 1, 2024. The complainant accused the SHO of allegedly helping the main accused in the murder case, Jaspreet Singh Jassi Dhatt, by not presenting the chargesheet within the stipulated period whereas the forensic science lab report in connection with the weapon used in the crime was also received within a reasonable period. The police recovered Rs 2.20 lakh in cash, an iron rod and some sharp weapons from their possession. The suspects were identified as Shindar Singh of Focal Point, Yograj Singh, alias Yogi, and Karan, both residents of Kohara. ADCP (Crime) Amandeep Singh Brar in a statement issued stated that a CIA team, led by ASI Sethi Kumar, was patrolling on the Machhiwara road when he received a tipoff that the suspects, who were were running a gang of robbers, were sitting behind a factory and planning to commit some major crime. The ADCP said the police conducted a raid and nabbed the suspects. Ludhiana, February 7 The Sadar Jagraon police on Thursday registered a case against 10 persons persons who attacked DJ operators and snatched a gold chain and cash from them. The suspects were identified as Varinder Singh Brar, Davinder Singh and Amritpal Singh, all residents of Galib Ran Singh, Kamal and Guri, both residents of Galib Kalan, Pammi of Talwandi Malian and four unidentified persons. The complainant, Dharampal Singh, a resident of Galib Ran Singh, told the police that he owns a DJ system, Jot. On February 4, he installed the same at the house of Varinder Singh Brar. His brother Satpal Singh and father Darsan Singh operates the DJ. The complainant alleged that Kamal along with some unidentified persons were repeatedly asking for a bundle of Rs 10 denomination of currency notes and when he refused to give the money, the former turned furious and started arguments. “As I came out, Kamal and other suspects carrying wooden sticks followed me. They snatched a bag containing Rs 11,000. After which, they started beating me with sticks, rendering serious injuries to my shoulders. When I raised the alarm, my brother and father tried to save me. The assailants also attacked them. As we tried to escape from the scene, other suspects also reached the place and thrashed us,” the complainant said. They even manhandled villagers Jagsir and Manna, who came to save us.
