While the move drew the ire of the opposition BJP the rul, ing DMK said there was no rule that barred such a depiction. The logo for the Budget, released by the government on Thursday, carried ‘Ru’, the first letter of the Tamil word ‘rubaai’ that denotes the Indian currency in the vernacular language. The logo also had the caption “everything for all”, indicating what the DMK claims is its “inclusive model of governance”. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the move signalled a “dangerous mindset that weakened Indian unity and promoted secessionist sentiments under the pretence of regional pride”. The development took place during the hearing of a petition filed by an accused apprehending state action. A Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel said, “In view of the assurance given by the state, this court disposes of the petition with the hope that due Court disposes of accused’s plea after assurance by state process of law shall be followed by the state before taking any coercive steps under Chapter 5A of the NDPS Act against the petitioner.” The order has broader implications amidst allegations of Punjab following 2025 LOGO the “bulldozer” model seen in some other states during a crackdown on drug peddlers. Petitioner Raj Kumar contended that coercive steps might be taken against him as he was an accused in a trial under the NDPS Act. Citing a recent Supreme Court judgment, the petitioner contended that such measures not be taken arbitrarily. Senior Deputy Advocate-General Sartaj Singh Gill assured the Bench that the apprehension raised by the petitioner was unfounded. “The state and its functionaries shall follow due process of law, as prescribed in Chapter 5-A of the NDPS Act, before taking any coercive action,” he said. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
