Passersby took the injured to the Civil Hospital, Pathankot. Two persons were declared ‘brought dead’ while the injured were taken to the emergency ward. The car was going to Srinagar from New Delhi. The deceased have been identified as Sushil Kumar and Naresh Kumar. The injured are Satish Kumar, Kewal Krishan, Arun and Vikas. Satish Kumar, who was driving the vehicle, said he tried to negotiate a bend when he lost control. He said he regained consciousness only at the hospital where doctors told him that he had met with an accident. The relatives of the dead person and the injured have been informed in Delhi. 2 injured as SUV falls off flyover Tribune News Service Amritsar, April 18 An immigration consultant along with a woman was injured when their SUV fell from a flyover near the Fatehgarh Churian bypass here on Friday. The police are ascertaining the reason behind the mishap. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle went out of control as it was being driven at high speed and fell around 15 feet down from the flyover. The SUV was badly damaged. The injured, identified as Pavitar Singh and Sandeep Kaur, both residents of Mehta, were admitted to a private hospital where they were under treatment. Subhash Chander, an eyewitness, informed the police about the incident. He said there was a loud noise when the redcoloured SUV fell upside down from the flyover. The people gathered at the spot and immediately pulled out the victims from the SUV. They had suffered serious injuries. A BSF spokesman said its intelligence wing received a drone-dropped consignment from the border village of Mahawa, following which an extensive search operation with the help of Punjab Police was carried out at the designated spot. He said the operation led to the seizure of a large packet, which was lying in a field, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape. Similarly, they arrested another narco smuggler with a packet of heroin containing 519-gm heroin near Dhaone Kalan village in Amritsar. They also impounded his motorcycle. The BSF also recovered parts of a pistol along with an empty magazine from the village this morning. Tribune News Service Amritsar, April 18 The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has mooted a proposal to establish a skill development degree college and Gurmat Sangeet Academy in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. A delegation of the SGPC met the Chhattisgarh CM Vishnudev Sai and demanded that a chunk of 10 acres be spared to establish the institution in Atal Nagar-New Raipur. SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta said that if the Chhattisgarh government makes the first move by providing the required land, then the SGPC would construct the college building. Mehta, who was one of the members of the delegation, said the Chhattisgarh CM has responded in a positive manner. “There is quite a sizable number of Punjabis living in Chhattisgarh and they have been contributing to the economy of the state. The SGPC, which has been running educational institutions in Punjab and other states, intends to establish a degree and skill development college and Gurmat Sangeet Academy in Raipur. If the Chhattisgarh government agrees to our proposal, it would help in strengthening the social fabric of two states,” he said. Amritsar, April 18 Following the interrogation of Baljinder Singh, an associate of Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, the Amritsar Rural Police have confiscated a hand grenade along with 186 gm of heroin from his residence at Macchiwala village. Happy Passia was arrested by US agencies on Friday. Baljinder along with his accomplice Palwinder Singh was arrested by the Amritsar Rural Police on April 11 with a Glock pistol, two bullets and a magazine. Amritsar, April 18 The city police have booked three persons on the charge of abetment to suicide after a college teacher ended her life. The victim hanged herself at a hostel room in the college complex on Tuesday. The police handed over the body to the family members after an autopsy. The police have arrested a suspect, Amarjit Singh, in the case here on Friday. Besides, Amarjit’s son Jagjit Singh, alias Happy, of Rasulpur village and an unidentified person were also booked in this connection. Amanjot Kaur, investigating officer, said further inves- tigations were on while Amarjit Singh has been arrested. Efforts were being made to nab the other accused. The victim, identified as Sukhjit Kaur, was reportedly a Punjabi teacher in Khalsa College for Women. The police said the family said she had been very upset for the past few days. The family came to know about the incident from the college authorities. The police said as per initial investigation, Sukhjit reportedly had a friendship with Jagjit Singh and wanted to marry him. But he along with other accused had started harassing her. — TNS PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, April 18 Amritpal Singh, a resident of Ajaibwali village, is running from pillar to post for justice. He alleged that his name was falsely implicated in an FIR registered at Sadar police station two years ago. Despite the fact that he approached senior police officials while handing over proofs of his innocence, his name was not removed from the FIR. He alleged harassment at the hands of the police and his small dairy business suffered serious losses during this period. “My statement to the investigating officer and CCTV footage proving my innocence was not included in the report prepared in the case. As a result, he was arrested and later released on bail,” he said. Ironically, the police also arrested Harbinder Singh, reader of Sadar police station SHO on charges of corruption who allegedly took bribe from him to get his name removed from the FIR, but it did not happen. While giving details, he said on the basis of complaint filed by one Sunil Kumar alias Sonu, the police had registered a case against several persons. He was later honoured at Sri Darbar Sahib Information Centre by SGPC secretary Partap Singh. On the occasion, a letter written by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami was handed over to the CISF DG by SGPC secretary Partap Singh. The letter urged resolution of the ongoing issues faced by Amritdhari Sikh employees at Indian airports regarding the kirpan. The letter stated that the recent directive issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which restricts Sikh employees from wearing the kirpan while on duty at air- ports, was an excess on Sikhs. “This discrimination within our own country is a serious attack on the religious freedom of Sikh citizens. The Indian government should never forget the immense sacrifices made by Sikhs for the nation’s independence. It is painful that Sikhs, who laid down their lives for the country, are being subjected to such injustice in their own homeland,” the letter reads.
