TNS Technology-transfer conference to promote ‘Make in India’ Nitin Jain Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 19 The out-of-the-box indigenous technologies in the field of medical devices developed by the top scientists of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and leading universities across the country will be up for grabs at Panjab University (PU) here later this week. The Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, will be holding a two-day transfer of technology (ToT) conference — “Smartmed-2025” —on medical devices here on May 23 and 24. The event is being organised in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). The national-level event is aimed at promoting the “Make in India” initiative to encourage companies to develop, Five arrested for ~56L investment fraud Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 19 The Cyber Crime Cell of the UT police has arrested five persons from Rajasthan for duping a city resident of Rs 56.26 lakh in an online investment fraud. The scam involved a fake stock trading platform namely “IBKR (Interactive Broker)”. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 35, had stated that he was lured into transferring large sums to various bank accounts by the fraudster who promised high returns. After the transactions were complete, he was blocked from all communication platforms, including WhatsApp groups, by the fraudsters. Those arrested have been identified as Mukesh Kumar Gujar, a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan; Ramji Lal Meena of Jaipur, Vijay Kumar Yogi, Aditya Kumar Jain, and Tan- ishq Marmat, alias Honey, who were nabbed from Sawai Madhopur. The investigators revealed that this group was part of a pan-India cybercrime syndicate with links not only to criminals in Rajasthan and Gujarat but also Dubai. One of their associates, Roopresh Sharma, was previously arrested by the Rajkot Cyber Crime Police in Gujarat. Their accomplices, including Sahil and Gokul of Sawai Madhopur, are absconding. The mobile phones recovered from the accused are being examined for additional evidence. The police have warned residents against falling for unsolicited messages or links promising lucrative returns, and advised them to verify the authenticity of trading platforms through official SEBI or government channels. The victim, Anil Kumar (44), was returning from duty. In a complaint, his son, Aneesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 27, has stated that around 10:10 pm on Sunday, he was out for a walk near Om Hospital in Sector 27. He saw a white Volvo SUV, which was being driven recklessly, colliding with another car near the Sector 26 turn towards Sector 27. Local residents said the bike rider was going from Dera Bassi to Mubarikpur side. When he reached near a school, a scooty, on which two youths were riding, came from Mubarikpur side and hit the bike. The victim fell down and suffered severe head injuries. Passersby rushed him to the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Meanwhile, both scooty riders fled the spot. The police shifted the body to the mortuary. In another accident, a 51year-old biker was crushed under the wheels of a truck near Kudanwala on the Barwala road in Dera Bassi on May 16. The victim has been identified as Ramswaroop of Rampur Sainian. The department has earned a record profit from the auction of liquor vends this time. This year, it has earned 35 per cent more revenue than last year. So far, the department has raked in Rs 526 crore from the auction of 85 liquor vends, while last year it had got only Rs 413 crore. According to officials, suggestions invited from the departments concerned, including Forests Department, Municipal Corporation, Engineering Department, Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO), have been incorporated in the management plan, under which various activities will be carried out at the lake. He was reportedly upset after being caught cheating in an exam. Aryan, a native of Kashmir, was allegedly involved in a cheating incident during his second semester exam today, said the police. Aryan had come back to college from home yesterday. Hostel inmates found his body hanging with a bedsheet from the ceiling fan in his room. His family members said Aryan was mentally disturbed for the past sometime and was under medication. The hostel authorities have informed the kin of the victim. Meanwhile, the police sent the body to the mortuary of the Kharar hospital. Injured leopard rescued from Nangal shifted to Chhatbir Zoo Being treated for injuries, to be set free in forest later Gaurav Kanthwal Tribune News Service Zirakpur, May 19 Three days after a subadult male leopard was rescued from Nangal town, the wild cat has been hospitalised at the Chhatbir Zoo for treatment before being released back into the forest. Officials said the leopard had sustained injuries while being rescued from a tree in a busy locality of Nangal. “The wild cat is still hospitalised at Chhatbir Zoo and its injury status report is yet to come. The vets will assess the animal’s health before it is released back into its habitat as The leopard that was rescued from Nangal. FILE soon as possible,” said a zoo official. The leopard had reportedly killed a dog in the area on Thursday night and was found trapped on a tree on the Bhakra road in Nangal on Friday morning.
