Saurav Gautam, a resident of the same village, complained to the Nakodar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) about an illegal IELTS centre, Jevik IELTS centre, at Chuharr village. The SDM has forwarded this complaint to the SSP, who sought the district attorney's opinion and ordered registration of a case. A case under sections of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act has been registered against the accused. While Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora, whose entire security had been withdrawn, has been attempting to resettle, his rival Deepak Bali has been reportedly calling the shots. Bali’s closeness in the inner circle of the Delhi’s AAP team is well-known. He is largely known to be operating through Vijay Nair, a close confidant of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Bali has been able to use all his contacts in the business, social, cultural and media circles in his favour, especially since the party had appointed him Raman Arora adviser to Punjab’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department two months back. Bali is learnt to be eyeing the Jalandhar Central Assembly seat in the next elections. There has been a buzz that it is Bali, who has been trying to clip the wings of Arora and had even been lodging complaints against him. But he outrightly rejects any such reports, “I am not the kind of person to indulge in any kind of backstabbing. I just believe in doing good work and service for my people”, he maintained. Arora’s downfall had also been linked to the recent arrest of Assistant Town Planner of the Municipal Corporation Sukhdev Vashisht. While Arora has been denying having any link with Vashisht, Bali had posted a news clip of his arrest on the Facebook while writing, “This is the real style of AAP The party wants . to give corruption-free administration in Jalandhar”. Jaswinder Kaur of village Haled of Dasuya told the police that her daughter Mandeep Kaur was maried to Charanjit Singh, son of Joginderpal, a resident of Sheikhupura. Her daughter's in-laws said Mandeep had consumed poison, after which she was admitted to a hospital where she died. Under the Punjab Sambhalo campaign, BSP leaders and workers also staged a large-scale protest against the government and submitted a memorandum to district administration officials for the Governor for the eradication of drugs. The district-level demonstration was led by BSP state general secretary and zone in-charge advocate Balwinder Kumar and along with him BSP leaders Gurmel Chumbar and Tirath Rajpura. Addressing a large gathering of BSP workers, Balwinder Kumar said that although the AAP government is waging a war against drugs, the conditions of people are going from bad to worse at the ground level due to drugs and people are dying every day. BSP leaders Gurmel Chumbar and Tirath Rajpura also said in the campaign launched by the govern- ment against drugs, pamphlets are also being issued against drug addicts, whereas they need to be reformed and the big network of drugs needs to be broken if the government really wants to eliminate drugs from the state. 85-year-old NRI shoots himself in Nurmahal 5 school buses challaned, Our Correspondent Phagwara, May 22 In a tragic incident, 85-yearold NRI Sewa Singh, a former company manager in England, died by suicide at his ancestral home in village Bainapur near Nurmahal on Wednesday evening. Singh, who had returned to India nearly four years ago due to deteriorating health, was living alone at the time of the incident. According to police sources, Singh used a licensed 6.6 bore pistol to end his life, fir- Sewa Singh ing a single shot in his head at 7:29 PM. The act was captured on the home’s CCTV system, which showed Singh bowing his head before a photograph in his room moments before the fatal shot. The distressing discovery was made by Puja, a domestic worker who has been employed by the family for the past 20 years. She arrived at the residence around 8:30 PM to prepare dinner and immediately alerted the authorities upon finding Singh’s lifeless body. Station House Officer (SHO) of Nurmahal Krishan Gopal confirmed that the police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. A forensic team arrived at the scene around 1:30 PM the following day to collect evidence and assist in the inquiry. Singh had been residing in a 15-marla house in the village after moving back from England. His wife, son, and daughter currently reside abroad. Puja has informed the family members and police officials stated that the last rites will be conducted only after their arrival. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been sent to the Phillaur Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Youth dies in Phagwara Civil Hospital, family vandalises hospital property Our Correspondent Phagwara, May 22 Chaos erupted at the Phagwara Civil Hospital after the death of a young man, identified as Kapil, led to a violent outburst by agitated family members and supporters. The youth, who had been in a critical condition, died during treatment, prompting allegations of medical negligence from his relatives. According to sources, Kapil was initially brought to the government hospital in a serious state and subsequently referred to Amritsar Medical College for advanced care. However, on May 19, his family brought him back to the Phagwara Civil Hospital. Despite being informed of his grave condition by the medical staff, his health deterio- rated and he succumbed during treatment. Following his death, tensions flared in the hospital’s emergency ward. Enraged by the incident, a group of people reportedly vandalised hospital property and misbehaved with onduty medical staff. Senior Medical Officer Dr Parminder Kaur told this correspondent that she had c m y b lodged a complaint with the police immediately to ensure the safety of both staff and patients and to act against miscreants. The authorities are now investigating the incident, including the medical treatment provided and the outbreak of violence. The police have been deployed to maintain law and order on the hospital premises. one bus impounded Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, May 22 Under the Safe School Vehicle Scheme in the district, around 30 school buses of four schools were checked by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Sanjeev Sharma and Assistant Transport Officer. The RTO said during this checking campaign, challans were issued to five bus drivers who violated the instructions issued under the Safe School Vehicle Scheme. Of these, one bus, which did not have the documents and fitness certificate, was impounded. The Regional Transport Officer appealed to all school principals of the district to give clear instructions to all bus owners to get the necessary documents like fitness of buses, pollution certificate, insurance etc. completed and keep these with them always. Along with this, he also clarified that the school principals themselves should ensure that their school buses are complying with every guideline of the Safe School Vehicle Scheme.
