Village sarpanch Shingara Ram said Kulwinder Singh of the village lives in Dubai while his wife and mother live at home. His wife had gone to her maternal home while his mother had gone to live with her elder son. On Thursday afternoon, he got information that the locks of the house situated on the outskirts of the village were broken. The sarpanch said the thieves broke the locks of all boxes and cupboards and stole valuables and cash. According to him, they stole Rs 80,000, gold and silver jewellery and other valuables. OC 2 FRIENDS DIE IN ACCIDENT Hoshiarpur: Two youths died in a road accident on the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road. Balwant Singh of village Phuglana told the police that his son Kulveer Singh left home riding his bike. When he did not return home till late night, he called him but his phone was switched off. Meanwhile, he came to know that Kulveer met with an accident near a dhaba at Tanuli. An unidentified vehicle hit his son. His son Kulveer and his friend Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Khanoda, died. After registering the case, the police have started further action. OC 9 ‘DRUG PEDDLERS’ ARRESTED Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested four persons on the charge of selling intoxicant capsules and tablets. As many as 2800 capsules (Pregzara 300) and 195 tablets were recovered from accused Jaswinder Singh of Warianna village, Anwar of Akbarpur Kalan village in Shahkot, Paramjit Singh of Mehatpur and Balwindar Singh. The Mehatpur police arrested two 'drug peddlers' Bhajan Singh of Khurlapur and Gurnam Singh of Gaunsuwal village, with 30 intoxicating tablets. The Shahkot police arrested drug peddler Balwindar Singh alias Kaka of Sohal Jagir village with 28 tablets. The Bilga police arrested two 'drug peddlers', Raman Kumar of Gumtali village and Amandeep Singh of Kang Arian village in Phillaur, with 70 tablets. oc Nakodar gym owner killed in rival group crossfire Group leader sustains bullet injuries, admitted to hospital Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 19 A fatal shootout took place between two rival groups in front of a gym and service station near the Shankar Bypass Canal in Nakodar on late Wednesday evening. A man was killed and another injured seriously in the group clash. The police said leaders of the two groups had licensed weapons, but they are not gangsters and it is being investigated whether the accused had any prior cases or crime-related history. The man died in the incident has been identified as gym owner Yograj, a resident of Mehmuval, Shahkot, who had been living at the gym in Nakodar for the past few years. The police confirmed that he was not directly involved in the dispute but was caught in the crossfire when he stepped outside on hearing the bullet sound. Yograj is survived by his wife and four-year-old daughter. After sustaining injuries, The police record the statement of an injured person at the Civil Hospital in Nakodar on Thursday. he was rushed to the Civil Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, leaders of the two feuding groups have been identified as Ravinder Ladoo and Dilpreet, alias Vishal, both hailing from Nakodar. A resident of Kang Sahib village, Dilpreet sustained serious gunshot wounds and remains hospitalised. His con- dition is reported to be critical. A case has been registered against nine persons, including Laddoo and Dilpreet, and 12 unidentified persons at the Nakodar City police station. According to the police, a gunfire broke out following a dispute between two groups travelling in two vehicles outside the gym. Witnesses reported hearing multiple rounds of gunfire in quick succession, causing panic in the area. DSP Nakodar, , Sukhpal Singh said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the violence stemmed from an old rivalry between the groups. Forensic teams have begun analysing the vehicles and camera footage from nearby establishments.” No arrests have been made in the case yet. ~8L, 3 kg silver, 45 gm gold, a car recovered Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 19 The Kapurthala police arrested four persons in a case of theft at Sarafa Bazaar, Kapurthala. SSP Gaurav Toora stated that four suspects had been arrested so far and Rs 8 lakh, 3 kg of silver, 4.5 tola gold jewellery, and a Hyundai car (PB 05 AD 6468) which was used in crime were recovered from their posession. Those arrested have been identified as prime accused Joni, alias Raju, of Khatik Mandi, Cantonment Police Station, Ferozepur, who was nabbed from Mandi, Himachal, and Amandeep Singh (who was arrested from Kangra, on June 17). Key accused Raju had jumped into a gorge when the police tried to aprehend him at Mandi. Owing to this, he fell and sustained injuries. Raju was hence seen limping while he was brought in by the police. The police also arrested two more persons to whom the stolen gold had been sold. They have been identified as Parampal Singh, alias Parma, of Mallanwala in Ferozepur and Rahul Sharma, resident of Mallanwala in Ferozepur. During a press conference at the police lines, the SSP said the theft occurred on June 8 at Ajay Kumar’s shop located at Lahori Gate, Kapurthala. In the wee hours at 4.10 am, 34 unidentified men with their faces covered with cloth, carried out the theft. They broke the shop’s shutter and took away the huge iron safe on the premises. As per Ajay’s statement, the safe had many valuable jewellery and other items. A case had been registered at the Kapurthala city police station. The SSP said a team was formed under the supervision of SP Prabhjot Singh Virk. The accused has been identified as Ravindar Kumar of Talwandi Madho village and his son Raj Kumar. Nirmal Singh of Billi Chao village in Nakodar complained to the police that the accused attacked and slapped him on June 18 and removed his turban. A case has been registered against the accused. The incident occurred when the vehicle hit a pothole, causing it to lose balance and overturned. According to sources, driver Avinash was returning home to Pithorahaal village in Sultanpur Lodhi after visiting a temple in Shekhupur along with his family. The auto-rickshaw reportedly encountered a deep pothole on the poorly maintained road, leading to the accident. All injured passengers were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala. The police have been informed about the incident and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, residents and commuters are raising concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road and have been urging the administration to carry out repairs to prevent further accidents. “The administration must take quick action to fix the roads. This accident could have been far worse,” said a local resident at the scene. Kapurthala jewellery theft case solved, 4 in cops’ net Joni was arrested from Mandi on June 15 and based on his interrogation, Amandeep was also arrested on June 17 from Kangra. The car used in the theft was also recovered. The investigation revealed that the accused sold the stolen gold and silver to jewellers Dharmapal and Rahul Sharma in Ferozepur, after which both were also apprehended and the stolen items were recovered. The police also said three more individuals have been named in the investigation. Joni already has 20 theft cases registered against him in different districts. The SSP said suspects will be presented in court and further interrogation is expected to uncover additional information. The incident occurred around 2 am and has triggered widespread concern among locals. According to the police, the confrontation began with a heated argument between the three accused and one of the victims. As tensions escalated, the accused began abusing him. The victim then called a friend for help, who arrived shortly. Both were then assaulted with sharp-edged weapons. The assault, which lasted several minutes, was captured on CCTV camera. A sixminute video from the scene clearly shows the attackers using weapons and hurling abuses at the victims. Surinder Babbar, father of a victim, said, “My son was asleep when he got a call from his friend, asking for help. When he reached the location, he was attacked with weapons. He has sustained serious injuries in his head and spinal cord and is in the ICU,” he said. “My son didn’t even have anything to do with them, still he went for his friendship and was beaten up even more,” the father said. The police suspect a personal dispute may have led to the violent clash. “It appears to have started as an argument and then turned into a physical assault,” an officer said. Originally, arrangements had been made for 17,000, but the overwhelming public response exceeded all expectations. While CM Bhagwant Mann was expected to be present at the event, it was attended instead by Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh. At the event, Balbir Singh gave a clarion call to people to make yoga an integral part of their daily lives. Addressing a large gathering during the state-level ‘CM di Yogshala’ event at PAP Ground, the Health Minister said it was heartening to see people from all walks of life participating enthusiastically in the mega event. He said ‘CM di Yogshala’ serves as a stepping stone towards building a healthier and more vibrant Punjab. TNS Auto-rickshaw hits pothole, overturns, 7 hurt Phagwara, June 19 The Satnampura police in Phagwara arrested three young men and recovered an illegal firearm, cartridges, and a vehicle during a routine check near Meheru village on Tuesday. According to SSP Gaurav Toora, the arrests were made under the supervision of Chehru Police Post in-charge Jasbir Singh. A police team intercepted a car that was approaching from the Meheru side. Upon stopping the vehicle and conducting a search, the police found one countrymade pistol and five rounds. The three occupants of the car were taken into custody on the spot. They were later identified as Ritik, a resident of Salem Tabri, Ludhiana, Rahul Jaswal, resident of Nagar Tara Bara Road, Ludhiana and Jai Prakash, a resident of Laxmi Nagar A case has been registered under the Arms Act and investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapon and the motive behind their possession. OC Nawanshahr, June 19 The police arrested a 19-yearold youth late Wednesday night and seized 100 gm of heroin along with Rs 50,000 drug money. A motorcycle was also recovered from his possession. According to police officials, the incident took place while a patrol team was conducting routine night surveillance near the railway overbridge. Around 10 pm, the police noticed a youth riding a motorcycle at high speed, approaching the area. “Upon spotting the police presence, the suspect panicked and attempted to make a sudden U-turn. In the process, he lost control and fell off the bike,” the police said. The patrolling team immediately apprehended him and conducted a search. During the search, the police recovered a black polythene bag containing 100 gram of heroin and Rs 50,000. The youth was identified as Ajay (19), a Motorcycle was also recovered from his possession resident from Rahon. The police officials said a case has been registered under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the drugs and identify other individuals possibly involved in the network. “This arrest is a part of our ongoing efforts to crack down on drug peddling,” a police spokesperson said. The police said Ajay has no prior criminal record, but his interrogation may reveal more about the supply chain and other accomplices. The arrest highlights the involvement of the youth in drug peddling, a concern that the authorities are keen to address through both enforcement and awareness campaigns.
