With songs such as the playful Ramta Jogi, motivational Kar Har Maidaan Fateh, soulful Mitwa, energetic Chak De India, catchy Gallan Goodiyaan and funny Jungle Mein Kaand, he continues to captivate audiences. And of course, how could we forget the Oscar and Grammy-winning sensation Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire! Sukhwinder’s electrifying live performances have won him legions of fans worldwide. This World Music day, Sukhwinder is set to perform in the City of Joy, to pay a rich tribute to Raj Kapoor. He will sing the song, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, it in four different styles – the original, classical, Sufi and folk. Sukhwinder has another interest — yoga. On International Day of Yoga and World Music Day, which fall on the same day, today, he talks to us about two of his loves. “Music is akin to meditation for me. I was introduced to it during my childhood,” he says. Born in Amritsar, Sukhwinder completed his education in Jalandhar. But for Sukhwinder, his education in music is an ongoing process and he takes his riyaaz seriously. “I am a ‘traveller’ learner. Wherever WORLD YOGA DAY I go, I make sure to spend time with the local artistes. I sit with them, jam with them and always learn a thing or two!” So, where does yoga fit in? When someone suggested him yoga, he was not sure if he could accommodate it in his busy schedule. But once he took it up, Sukhwinder realised its worth in real time. “Being a sportsperson, it didn’t take me long to learn yoga – the basic stretching and asanas; what amazed me was that the benefits of yoga extend not just to the body but to the mind as well.” Sukhwinder loves that you cannot ‘hurry up’ in yoga. “I have made a special playlist with an element of classical, bit of rock, more of folk and I enjoy my yoga routine that I follow four to five days a week,” he says. He has kept no fixed time for yoga but he makes sure to do it consistently. “It relaxes my body and mind, prepping me for the frantic pace of life that I lead, helping me give my best to my fans, for whose deep love I am deeply grateful for.” Looking forward to the release of his projects —Vishal Bhardwaj’s Arjun Ustara starring Shahid Kapoor; Siddharth Anand-directorial King that stars Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan; Ahmed Khan’s Baaghi 3 with Tiger Shroff; and another film on Namami Gange, his hands are full, heart content. “I wish everyone, a fabulous World Music and Yoga Day!” Can’t do without it! ‘Diljit has a goofy side...” Diana Penty on working with the Punjabi actor in Detective Sherdil Diana Penty plays Natasha, a brilliant and dedicated investigator, in Detective Sherdil, which is streaming on Zee 5. She talks about her on-screen dynamic with Diljit Dosanjh, who plays the unorthodox detective, Sherdil. Penty said she enjoyed working with Diljit, who, despite his funny side, made the set a comfortable place for everyone. “I mean, I would obviously listen and observe because he would speak a lot in Punjabi, and I understand quite a bit of it. But, yeah, he was a very fun person on set and a very nice person,” she shared. Penty fondly recalled the humble and respectful nature of her co-star, describing him as someone who never imposed on others but always brought a sense of ease and warmth to the set. “He was very down-to-earth, very polite, and respectful of everybody around him. He made everybody comfortable, never interfered in anything... He was there for his scenes and lines, but he never imposed on anybody,” Penty noted. Diljit’s blend of humour and introverted nature made working with him a unique experience. “He has this side that’s goofy and fun, always cracking jokes, but he’s also a quiet, slightly more introverted person. POWER TO HEAL: Shubhangi Atre I practise yoga at least three times a week, starting with pranayama, moving through asanas like Surya Namaskar, and ending with meditation. Even a few minutes make a difference. During one of the toughest times in my life—my divorce— yoga became my therapy. It helped me heal, breathe through pain, and reconnect with my inner strength. THE PAUSE BUTTON: Rubina Dilaik Yoga is my way of grounding myself, especially in a world that’s constantly moving. It’s not always about an hour-long session on the mat, sometimes, it’s just five minutes of deep breathing and tuning inwards. As someone who juggles continuous shoots and travel, yoga gives me a much-needed pause. I’ve noticed how just a few conscious breaths can completely shift my energy. That’s the beauty of yoga, it meets you where you are. — TNS STAYING CONNECTED: Simaran Kaur I start with some stretching exercise to open up my joints and relax my body. I do Surya Namaskar, followed by various asanas. Anulom Vilom is my go-to breathing exercise—it really helps me align my energy. I prefer doing yoga outdoors because it helps me feel more connected to myself and to nature. I love dance and aerobics too, but yoga is my favourite. Avika Gor INNER ALIGNMENT: Harleen Kaur Rekhi For me, yoga is not just a physical exercise, it’s a form of inner alignment. It helps me balance my mind, body and breath. Even if I can’t do a full session, I make time for at least five to 10 minutes a day—because that consistency brings clarity and strength. Vajrasana after meals helps with digestion, and breathing exercises keep my voice steady for performances. Whenever I drift away from yoga, I feel the difference immediately. It’s my anchor in this fast-paced world. RECHARGE & RECONNECT: Avika Gor Yoga is the way for me to recharge and reconnect with my inner self. Whether it’s a few stretches or simply sitting in silence—yoga reminds me to be present, to be kind, and to be grateful.
