After the imposition of the Emergency, he and Ratti Ram Goyal held the first Satyagraha in Chandigarh on July 15, 1975, as part of the Lok Sangharsh Samiti’s agitation. He raised slogans and was arrested. The memories are still fresh in the minds of these leaders from Chandigarh who were booked under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and subjected to torture and humiliation at local police stations and the Burail Jail. WAS ARRESTED FOR THROWING POSTERS AT THEN CONG CHIEF DEV KANT BAROOH RAMLAL GUPTA Recalling the horror, Ramlal Gupta, an advocate, said he was arrested by the police while he was leading a protest march against then Congress president Dev Kant Barooh. He said the party held an AllIndia Congress Committee meeting in Mohali, adding, “There was a strong push for one party rule in the country. Barooh also came to attend the meeting and gave the slogan ‘Indira is India and India is Indira’.” Gupta, who was the general secretary of the Jan Sangh at the time, said he was given the responsibility to oppose the visit. He decided to lead the protest. When the march led by Barooh reached the Sector 23-22 light point, he threw posters at Barooh. Believing it to be a bomb, the Congress men asked the police to arrest him. He was taken to the police station, stripped and tortured by the cops. He was again arrested from a town near Bathinda. “Those were the darkest days of Indian history and memories of oppression are still fresh in my mind,” he said. Fake social media profiles of UT DSP used for fraud Tribune News Service Chandigarh, June 25 Cybercriminals have created multiple fake social media accounts impersonating Chandigarh DSP Lakshay Pandey, currently posted with the Road and Safety Wing. These accounts are being used to send inappropriate messages to women and request money from the public using misleading narratives such as medical emergencies or gift-related excuses. The impersonators also allegedly fabricated Aadhaar cards and police ID cards using Pandey’s name and photograph. Several individuals have been misled, with some accounts even displaying a blue verification tick, suspected to have been fraudulently obtained. Pandey lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell Police Station, citing the reputational damage and public distress caused by these acts. To alert the public, he posted a story from his official Instagram account, stating: “There are a lot of fake IDs running on my name on Instagram and Facebook… Legal action is being taken now… I request you all to not entertain such messages/calls or give any money or photograph.” Court dismisses Rain likely over plea in Forest Hill Resort case next five days Mohali: A local court today dismissed the application of Col (retd) Baljit Singh Sandhu seeking compounding of offence in a case related to Forest Hill Resort. Col Sandhu, 65, was convicted for the violation of Section 2 of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, on September 17, 2009. The court found the application untenable at the face of it since the pendency of civil litigation would have no impact upon the adjudication of the application through which compounding of offence has been sought. — TNS ON PAGE 2 in tricity Chandigarh, June 25 The day and night temperatures dipped in the city for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
