Further, they had been directed to ensure that road gullies were cleaned on a regular basis. They had also been directed to get the same certified from councillors and submit respective certificates with the higher authorities. Further the officials have been directed to ensure removal of rubble from bridge (puli) construction sites over the Buddha Dariya, so that it should not cause any obstruction in the flow of water in the water Granthi nabbed for attempt to violate minor Ludhiana, June 26 The Sidhwan Bet police on Wednesday arrested a granthi on the charge of attempt to rape a minor girl on the gurdwara premises in Bhaini Arayian village in Sidhwan Bet. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. He was identified as Gurcharan Singh. The victim had gone to a gurdwara with other children to pay obeisance, where the granthi, Gurcharan Singh, tried to take off her clothes and started doing obscene acts. The girl got scared and ran away from the other door and reached home. The victim narrated the incident to her family. Following which, they lodged a complaint with the police. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the police started a probe and registered a case against the man. Further, the officials have been directed to ensure that the residents should not face any trouble due to water contamination and if any complaint was submitted by them regarding the same, it should be resolved at the earliest. The building branch officials had also been directed to issue notices to owners of unsafe buildings across the city. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said all steps were being taken to avoid waterlogging during monsoon season and the public should also support the civic body in the course. They said they would also be conducting field inspections for taking stock of the situation at the ground level. For ensuring safety and reducing the reaction time, the civic body has established a 24x7 flood control room at its Daresi sub-zone office. In case waterlogging is witnessed in their areas, residents can call 0161-2749120 and civic body teams will reach the spot for resolving the problem at the earliest. Mayor Inderjit Kaur also conducted an inspection on the Rahon road and directed that the work of cleaning sewer lines with super suction machines should be expedited, so that residents should not face any trouble due to waterlogging. Ludhiana, June 26 An elderly couple died by suicide by consuming sulphas at their shop in Gandhi Nagar here on Thursday. According to residents of the area, the man had taken a loan from a bank and the amount was said to be around Rs 2 crore. He had been paying instalments regularly but recently he failed to clear one instalment. Following which, bank employees were constantly visiting their house for recovery due to which the couple went into depression. Troubled by the bank offi- Jasbir Singh and Kulbir Kaur cials, the man and his wife ended their lives on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Jasbir Singh and Kulbir Kaur. According to information, Jasbir owns a hosiery shop in Gandhi Nagar. On Thursday morning, when the deceased’s son returned from gym, he saw his parents lying in an uncon- scious state. He, with the help of other people, took them to the DMCH, where both died during treatment. ADCP Sameer Verma said the man had taken loan and he failed to clear one instalment. The couple before ending their life, left behind a suicide note in which they had mentioned the name of a private bank manager and a loan agent. As per the suicide note, an FIR was being registered against the persons mentioned in it. ASHWANI DHIMAN Nikhil Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Ludhiana, June 26 The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation demolished unauthorised properties owned by three drug peddlers facing multiple cases. The operation targeted their illegal constructions in Transport Nagar here. The demolition drive was executed under the supervision of Police Commissionerate and MC officials, ensuring full compliance with legal protocols and maintaining public order. The properties, illegally built on MC land, belonged to Shekhar, Bimla and her son Gurmeet. Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma said Shekhar was facing six criminal cases while Bimla and Gurmeet had five and three cases, respectively, registered against them across various police stations. He underscored the state government’s zero tolerance policy towards drug trafficking while stating: “We are committed to eradicating the drug menace and protecting our youth. No lessons learnt Strict instructions had already been issued to all SHOs to keep a tab over drug smuggling activities in the area and take immediate action,” he added. The CP also issued a stern warning to the peddlers, urging them to abandon their illegal trade, else they would be thrown behind bars. “We have already identified many other properties of drug smugglers and process is on to demolish same properties. Authorities will not spare assets of smugglers acquired from drug money,” asserted Sharma. Meanwhile, SHO, Moti Nagar police station, inspector Amritpal Singh, said one property belonged to Shekhar while the other property was owned by the woman and her son. Ludhiana, June 26 Two drug addicts broke into a house and stole a mobile phone, Rs 10,000 in cash and a silver chain. Local residents saw the suspects going towards the bus stand and beat them up there. Sahil, the owner of the house, said the suspects first stood outside his house and entered it when they found an opportunity. When he returned home, he raised the alarm after the mobile, cash and silver chain were found missing. The people traced the suspects with the help of CCTV cameras and caught them at the bus stand. On checking the CCTV cameras, it was revealed that both youths had gone towards the bus stand after committing the theft. The meeting was called to control crime, settle pending cases and formulate a strategy against drug trafficking.
