The accused has been identified as Jobanpreet Singh of Chanannwindi village under Sultanpur Lodhi police station. Karan of Saidpur village had complained to the police that the accused and his three accomplices attacked him with weapons, intending to murder, and seriously injured him on the evening of April 28. A case was registered against the accused and others. OC MAN HELD FOR SELLING LIQUOR Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a villager on the charge of selling illicit liquor. As many as 35 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused Paras Gogna, a resident of Nurpur Chatha. OC 'DOWRY SEEKER' HUSBAND BOOKED Phagwara: The police have booked the husband of a woman for dowry harassment. The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Yakopur Khurd village. Sukhraj Singh of Mehrajwala village told the police that his daughter Harman Preet Kaur's marriage was solemnised with the accused in November 2022. His daughter migrated to Canada and facilitated her husband's migration, who started harassing his daughter there and was arrested by the Canadian police. A case has been registered against the accused after an inquiry. oc BOOKED FOR JUMPING PAROLE Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a notorious drug smuggler on the charge of jumping parole.The accused has been identified as Surji Lal alias Sodhi of Chuheki village under Nurmahal. The accused, serving 10-year jail was released on parole for six weeks on March 17, 2022, and was bound to report in jail on May 16, 2022, but he failed. Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal stated that due to the heightened risk of disease transmission during the monsoon season and in the interest of public health, all plot owners in the district have been instructed to clear garbage and other waste from their vacant plots. Additionally, orders were issued to construct boundary walls or fencing around the plots to prevent illegal dumping of waste. He said for violation of these orders, 99 notices had been issued by the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, 14 by Nagar Council Adampur, 4 by Nagar Panchayat, Alawalpur, 25 by Nagar Council, Bhogpur, 8 by Nagar Panchayat, Bilga, 9 by Nagar Council, Goraya, 14 by Nagar Council, Kartarpur, 29 by Nagar Panchayat, Lohian Khas, 30 by Nagar Panchayat, Mehatpur, 9 by Nagar Council, Nakodar, 16 by Nagar Council, Phillaur, 5 by Nagar Council, Nurmahal, and 27 by Nagar Panchayat, Shahkot. Shopkeepers and traders gathered in numbers, raising slogans and voicing anger over what they described as repeated and unjustified harassment by the authorities. The protesters claimed that these inspections were creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the market. “We come to our workplace to earn a living. Why are department officials visiting again and again to harass us?” said one frustrated shopkeeper. Another trader added, “This is nothing short of harassment. We are not against rules, but the way these inspections are being conducted is unacceptable. The government is asking the department to conduct surveys.” The protesters warned that their agitation could intensify if the government fails to address their concerns. “We will hold a meeting with the authorities soon. But if the government continues to trouble us under the name of inspections, we will escalate our protest,” they said. Rajinder Beri comes in support of traders: Former MLA of Jalandhar Central Rajinder Beri has criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that it is intentionally targeting traders. The barbarism did not just end there. The family of victim Surinder Singh (39) has alleged that the attackers kept the fingers hidden after the incident and returned these to them much later, owing to which these could not be surgically attached. Surinder Singh runs a shop of hardware and paints at Bashirpura. They have their house in the same locality. “Since there was sparking in electricity wires, a PSPCL lineman had advised us to park the car elsewhere. So we took it to the shop and parked it there around 9 pm on Tuesday evening. The assailants, who have their house in front of our shop, came out and smashed the windowpanes of our car”, said Surinder’s father Harvinder Singh, adding that the fight had been settled after negotiations. Harvinder said, “Last night again, they created a ruckus. They came out with swords and attacked me, my son and my son-in-law Lakhvir Singh. While I suffered minor injuries, they tried to chop of Surinder’s right hand. A total of 44 patients have been admitted, including 11 or 12 cases involving reduced platelet counts. While 17 cases were reported from the female medical ward, 27 patients rushed to 32-bedded male medical ward. Only one case of dengue was reported. Other than this, eight gastroenteritis/diarrhoea patients, five anemia and patients of TB, liver disease, etc. were admitted to Civil Surgeon Dr Gurmeet Lal said, “The Civil Hospital is set to undergo renovation, with estimates already submitted to the state government.
