Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 4 In a tragic road accident, three persons, including a woman, lost their lives when their motorcycle collided with a truck trailer that suddenly started reversing after its driver lost control of it here on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as Sunny (27) of Nehru Colony, Raman (22) of Pal Avenue and his mother Geeta (43). The police said the incident took place around 11 pm on Ram Tirath Road near the Ajnala bypass flyover. According to the police, the truck trailer was going from Mahal village to the Ajnala bypass when its driver lost control of it while climbing a flyover and it started reversing leading to the road accident. The motorcycle-borne victims, who were following the trailer, could not stop in time and collided with it. They were run over by the tractor trailer, resulting in their death on the spot. The accident led to a traffic jam on the flyover for around Youth shot dead in Beas, probe begins Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 4 A youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the service lane built under the Beas bridge on late Friday night. According to information, a group of men travelling in a Hyundai Creta car arrived at the spot, shot the victim and fled the scene. On Saturday morning, nearby residents found the body lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar (Rural), Maninder Singh said a probe has been initiated and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding areas is being examined. He assured that the accused would be traced and arrested soon. Initial probe revealed that the CCTV footage shown a few men stepping out of a Creta car and walking along the lane. They were seen having an argument with the victim while talking to someone on their phones. Moments later, the accused took the victim to a dark, isolated area and shot him dead before fleeing the spot in their car. When morning walkers reached the service lane today, they spotted the body drenched in blood. The deceased had a tattoo on his neck bearing the name “Gopi”. No mobile phone or identification documents were recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder might have been the result of a monetary dispute or an illicit relationship. The police suspect the killers dumped the body on the spot to conceal the victim’s identity. The body has been sent for a postmortem. The police have launched a hunt to nab the culprits. half an hour. Amritsar, October 4 The Islamabad police have booked four persons for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman lawyer and assaulting her and her father leaving them injured. However, no arrest has been made till now while efforts are on to arrest the accused, said the police. Those booked were identified as Balraj Singh, Gurjit Singh and Kewal Singh, all residents of Indira Colony, Guru Nanak Pura locality, Sarabjit Singh of Japani Mill at Chheharta. The 27-year-old woman lawyer in her statement to the police alleged that on October 1, she saw her neighbour Balraj Singh uprooting some plants outside her house. When she Alleges accused tried to outrage her modesty, used casteist remarks objected, Balraj allegedly started abusing her and making derogatory remarks about her character. Soon after, other accused armed with iron rods and wooden sticks joined in, she alleged. She claimed that the accused then forcibly entered her house, assaulted her parents and tore her clothes in an attempt to outrage her modesty. While the Amritsar Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made stopgap arrangements by hiring former employees of the previous contractor, the system remains irregular and poorly coordinated. Residents reported that some of these former employees began collecting Rs 100 per household for garbage collection, double the Rs 50 fee charged by the previous firm. When contacted, MC officials concerned claimed they were unaware of the situation. The police have also identified their foreign-based handler in the case though the main three shooters were still absconding in the case. Those arrested were identified as Navraj Singh, alias Noor, Dalwinder Singh, alias Billi, and Shubhdeep Singh, alias Shubh, all residents of Subhash Road, Chheharta. While Navraj was arrested on Friday, Dalwinder and Shubhdeep were arrested today. Amritsar, October 4 In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested four drug peddlers and seized 1.696 kg of heroin, two pistols and live cartridges in two separate operations. According to the police, teams from the Mehta and Jandiala police stations conducted the raids following credible intelligence inputs. In the first case, the Mehta police arrested Kuldeep Singh of Khabe Rajputan village and Abhideep Singh of Basrawan village and recovered 1.596 kg of heroin, an electronic weighing machine, and a Platina motorcycle (PB18-N-2802) from their possession. DSP Ravinder Singh said both accused were caught at a naka set up on the link road leading from Khabe Rajputan to Butter Kalan following a secret tip-off. Dr Dhawan stated that the Punjab Government is committed to providing quick and efficient services to citizens. He added that the Health Department is sincerely fulfilling its responsibilities in line with the government’s directives. “Since I took charge, I have made it a priority to clear all pending medical bills. No one should face unnecessary delays or harassment in government offices,” he said. Amritsar, October 4 In a tragic incident, a man was allegedly stabbed to death by his two brothers-inlaw near Talwandi Rai Dadu village in Ajnala here on Friday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Lalwala village in Ajnala. The accused, Satta Singh and Aman Singh, both residents of Tanana village under the jurisdiction of Bhindi Saida police station, are currently absconding, the police said. According to the complaint lodged by Harinder Singh, father of the deceased, Sandeep had frequent quarrels with his wife Paramjit Kaur over domestic issues.
