The blaze, which started from a large quantity of stacked crates, rapidly escalated, completely destroying temporary sheds and a parked truck in the adjacent fruit market section. The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. Fire officials were investigating to find out the case. However, preliminary investigation of the Fire Department found that a spark emanating from the dump ignited surrounding materials, which then spread quickly due to strong winds. The thick smoke generated widespread alarm among local vendors and residents. Upon arrival, the first fire tender found the area fully engulfed in flames. As firefighters were trying to douse the flames, several small explosions were heard. A nearby tea stall, which also caught fire, had LPG cylinders. Firefighters acted swiftly to remove the cylinders from the scene, preventing a major secondary explosion. A major challenge for the fire- though the incident represents a substantial financial loss for fruit and vegetable vendors. He also noted the market’s history of similar incidents, mentioning that he had personally responded to several crate fires at the place in the past. Woman’s body found in sack Debt-ridden farmer dies by suicide Investigating officer ASI Amolak Singh said the police launched a probe and once the identity of the deceased was confirmed, the reason of murder would be cleared. No injuries or other marks were found on the woman’s body. Ludhiana, November 11 Sukhwinder Singh, a 45-yearold debt-ridden farmer from Kotha Premsar village in Jagraon, died by suicide. He swallowed some poisonous substance, leading to his death. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. A resident of the village, Jaswinder Singh, said Sukhwinder had incurred agricultural debts of around Rs 20 lakh. He owned less than an acre of land and farmed and reared livestock. Sources said Sukhwinder consumed pesticide at his home on Tuesday morning. When his health deteriorated, his family admitted him to Kalyani Hospital, a private hospital. From there, doctors referred him to the Civil Hospital, Jagraon, where he died during the treatment. He was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. — TNS Ludhiana, November 11 The recovery of a young woman’s body near the Alamgir Bypass in the Dugri area on Tuesday caused a stir. Initially, people thought it was garbage. When it was checked, a body was found in the sack. The police were informed and officials from the Dugri police station reached the scene. As police officials opened the sack, the body of a woman was found. The police took the body into custody and sent it to the Civil Hospital mortuary. CCTV cameras are also being checked to identify those who dumped the body. The deceased was yet to be identified. Uncle comes to India every year and meets Dhar- Nikhil Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Ludhiana, November 11 The Khanna police claimed to have arrested a total of 19 suspects in the murder case of Gurvinder Singh Ginda (21), who was shot dead at Manki village on November 3. Among the 19 suspects, four were the main assailants while others were those who either gave shelter to the suspects or helped them directly or indirectly in committing the crime. A US-based man, Jatinder Kumar, alias Tiddi, a native of Rampur, Doraha, now residing in the US, had helped the suspects financially and in arranging shelters for them after they committed the murder. Even B-category gangster Ravi Rajgarh, who was brought on a production warrant for questioning from the Bathinda jail, too had helped the suspects in the conspiracy. At the same time, the residents of the small town prayed for the speedy recovery of the veteran actor, who ruled the Indian cinema for long. A resident said it was disturbing in the morning as a few news channels showed that the actor was no more. “Later, people started gathering near the actor’s house in which he stayed for many years. We are praying for his recovery and he will be healthy again,” the resident said. c m y b Haryana man booked for raping city woman Ludhiana, November 11 The Ludhiana police registered a case against a Haryana-based man who had sexually exploited a city woman and also extorted money from her on the pretext of solemnising marriage with her. A case was registered against the suspect on the charges of rape and fraud. The suspect was identified as Bikram Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana. The complainant told the police that she had lodged a complaint against the suspect in June this year and after months of probe, the police on Monday registered a case. She alleged that Bikram cheated her on the pretext of marriage. He had developed physical relations with her repeatedly at her house in the city without her consent and turned her pregnant. As she turned pregnant, he forced her to consume some medicine. He even took Rs 2 lakh from her and did not return the money. The complainant asserted that despite sexually exploited her for long, he had refused to solemnise marriage with her. Following the betrayal, she lodged a police complaint and a case was registered. ASI Sukhjinder Singh said after registering a case, further probe was launched and the man would be arrested soon. — TNS
