The warning comes as the IMD forecasts a further gradual rise in maximum temperature from 3 to 4 degrees over the next five days, threatening to push Chandigarh’s daytime high to 41 degrees Celsius by Friday. Monday stayed dry across Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana. Even as the day’s maximum in Chandigarh dipped marginally by 1.2 degrees from Sunday to settle at 38.1 degrees Celsius, it remained a firm 2.8 degrees above normal. Night temperature fell more sharply — slipping 2.2 notches from Saturday night to record 18.6 degrees Celsius, sitting 2.7 degrees below normal — giving the Tricity a deceptively cool overnight reprieve that IMD warns will not last much longer. Relative humidity ranged between 73 per cent in the morning and a very dry 19 per cent by afternoon — one of the sharpest humidity drops recorded this season. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
