INBRIEF WOMAN AMONG 3 ‘PEDDLERS’ HELD Nakodar: The Nakodar police have arrested a woman on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 23 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Bholi of Pati Takhar Shankar village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The Shahkot police arrested two persons Pardeep Kumar of Dabri Colony and Vijay Kumar of Malsian village with 110 intoxicants. OC FOUR BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Nakodar: The police have booked four villagers on the charge of assaulting a covillager. The accused have been identified as Pardeep Singh, Jagjit Singh, Armaan and Gursahib Singh, all residents of Littran village. Jasprit Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on April 2 and attacked him with weapons and injured and threatened him with dire consequences. oc VILLAGER HELD FOR SELLING LIQUOR Nakodar: The police have arrested a village and booked his wife on the charges of selling and brewing illicit liquor. As many as 19 bottles of illicit liquor and 70 litre of lahan were recovered from the possession of the accused Kulwant Singh of Khurlapur village and his wife Ranno, who managed to flee from the spot. oc MINOR GIRL GOES MISSING Phagwara: Surinder Singh, resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Phagwara, said his minor daughter has been abducted. His daughter had been missing since April 17. He said he had left for work, leaving his daughter alone at home. When he returned in the evening, he found that his daughter was not present. The complainant expressed suspicion that an unidentified person may have taken his daughter. The police have registered a case. oc TWO HELD FOR POTATO THEFT Nakodar: The Nakodar police have arrested two miscreants for stealing farmer’s potatoes. The accused have been identified as Bag Hussain and Farooq, residents of Malarri village. Harpreet Singh, Sarpanch of Aalowal village, complained to the police that the accused stole 50 quintals of potatoes loaded in a trolley. OC JEWELLERY STOLEN FROM HOUSE Nakodar: The police have booked unidentified persons on the charge of stealing golden jewellery from a house. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Rajputan, Ward no.17, complained to the police that thieves barged into his house and stolen golden and silver jewellery and silver coins. OC Class IX girl delivers baby boy at Phillaur nursing home Blazing summer ride Her classmate in Amritsar booked under POCSO Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 23 A 15-and-a-half-year-old girl, a student of Class IX, gave birth to a baby boy at a nursing home in Phillaur. An Amritsar boy, reportedly a classmate of her and also her neighbour, has been booked by the Bilga police in Jalandhar for the rape. A case has been registered against the boy under Section 6 (sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and Section 65(1) (rape of minor) of the BNS Act at the Bilga police station in Jalandhar on April 20. Her aunt, a resident of Pwadra village in Bilga and domestic worker, in her complaint to the police said her niece, who was living in Amritsar, was brought to the village and had been living with her for the past seven months after the death of her father. The woman alleged that the girl’s mother left her family 13 years ago and after her father’s death, she brought her to her house at Bilga. The woman said the girl first complained of pain in her abdomen 45 days ago after which she was taken to a Nurmahal-based doctor. After complaining of acute pain in her stomach again on April 19, the girl was taken to a hospital by her aunt and was referred to a nursing home at Phillaur, where, to her surprise, the complainant came to know that her niece was pregnant. She delivered a baby boy the same day. As per the FIR registered by the Bilga police, on being questioned by her aunt, the girl had told her that a boy in her class in Amritsar, who was also her neighbour, had forced himself upon her and raped her. Upon this, an FIR was registered on a complaint by the woman at the Bilga police station on April 20. Officials said after a couple of days of treatment, the girl had been discharged from the hospital and returned to her aunt’s home. DSP Phillaur, Bharat Masih , said, “The alleged rape took place in Amritsar and after a zero FIR at Bilga, the case has been sent to the police station E in Amritsar for further investigation and to trace the boy.” Harmanbir Singh, SHO E Division, Amritsar, when asked about the case, said he had received no intimation or application regarding the case so far. AI cameras help cops recover drug packet inside K’thala jail Our Correspondent Phagwara, April 23 A drug packet allegedly thrown into the district jail was recovered after suspicious movement was flagged by AI-enabled surveillance cameras, the jail authorities confirmed. The incident has raised fresh concerns about security lapses and possible staff involvement. According to officials, the jail administration noticed unusual activity inside the premises through the AI monitoring system. Acting Burglars target shops near police station Phagwara, April 23 Unidentified miscreants targeted three shops near the City Police Station on Wednesday night. According to reports, the thieves broke into the shops and stole equipment related to air conditioning units. They fled the scene after committing the crime, leaving behind signs of forced entry. The theft came to light in the morning when shop owners found their establishments ransacked. The shopkeepers have reported losses, though the exact value of the stolen goods is yet to be determined. The nature of the theft suggests that the accused may have had prior knowledge of the shops and the valuable equipment stored inside. Police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify the suspects and trace their movement. — OC on the alert, the staff conducted a search operation and recovered a packet suspected to contain narcotics. The packet had reportedly been thrown from outside the jail wall. Initial findings suggest that the packet was tossed with the possible help of insiders. The authorities have not ruled out the involvement of jail staff, as the timing and location of the throw indicate coordination. A senior police officer stated that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible. The recovered packet reportedly contained intoxicating substances, including tablets and other banned materials. Samples have been sent for forensic examination to confirm the exact composition. Following the incident, the jail administration has tightened security measures. CCTV footage and AI camera data are being reviewed to trace the sequence of events and identify any external accomplices. Officials are also examining whether there were prior attempts of similar nature. The police have registered a case. Peddler nabbed with 30 gm heroin, ~11K drug money Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 23 The Kapurthala police arrested a person with 30 gm heroin and drug money from near Bhano Langah village in Kapurthala. On a tip-off, a joint team of the CIA staff Kapurthala as well as Kapurthala police nabbed a ‘drug smuggler’ on Bhano Langah village road. The police recovered 30 gm heroin and Rs 11,800 from the accused. The accused has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, alias Love, resident of village Bhano Langah, under the Sadar Police Station in Kapurthala. A police team, under the directions of SSP Kapurtha, la, Gaurav Toora, which included DSP Investigation, , Harinder Singh Gill, DSP Detective Devinder Singh, ASI Raman Kumar, (CIA Kapurthala) and ASI Sukhchain Singh (CIA Kapurthala) carried out the operation. The incident has triggered fear among residents, who claim that cases of theft and robbery have been increasing, making it unsafe to step out even during the day. According to reports, the doctor, who runs a clinic in Mukhtiar Kalan and resides in Kamalpur village, was on his Youth run over by train near Phagwara Gas agency worker kidnapped, attacked; dies in hospital Phagwara, April 23 A 25-year-old youth was killed after being run over by a goods train on the railway track near Chaheru, Phagwara. The incident occurred when the victim was reportedly crossing the railway track. Government Railway Police (GRP) in-charge Ashok Kumar Sharma stated that the body has been sent to the Civil Hospital. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, and further legal action will be taken following the completion of procedures. A post-mortem examination will be conducted after 72 hours. — OC Our Correspondent MC unions’ strike enters day two Straw-laden tractor-trolley catches fire in Garhshankar Our Correspondent Jalandhar, April 23 Amid the ongoing strike by MC unions over various demands, tensions between employees and the administration have intensified. Acting on the directions of Mayor Vaneet Dhir, six karamcharis, including a union office-bearer, have been transferred. The strike entered its second day, disrupting garbage collection services across several areas of the city. While one faction of the unions continued the protest, another group partially cooperated by clearing the main dumping sites, though smaller dumps remained unattended. No talks were held between union leaders and the administration on Thursday. A meeting held on Wednesday ended in heated arguments, after which union leaders handed over the keys of garbage collection vehicles to the Mayor. The vehicles have remained parked at the municipal headquarters since then. — TNS Kapurthala, April 23 Panic gripped the Aujla road area of Kapurthala when a young man, sitting outside a gas agency, was allegedly abducted by unidentified carborne assailants, brutally assaulted and later dumped near Dyalpur village, leading to his death during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Deepak, a resident of Waryah Dona village. Deepak, who worked with a contractor engaged in gas cylinder supply, was present outside a gas agency godown on Aujla road around 9:30 am way back when he was intercepted by two motorcycleborne assailants. The attackers reportedly stopped him and assaulted him with sharpedged weapons, leaving him injured. They fled the scene after snatching his mobile phone, cash of ~5,000–~6,000 Efforts are on to arrest the culprits when a group of miscreants arrived in a car and kidnapped him. Sources revealed that the accused were armed with a pistol, which created panic among bystanders and prevented any immediate intervention. Station House Officer (SHO) Amandeep Nahar stated that the accused took the youth with them, subjected him to severe physical assault and later abandoned him in a critically injured condition near Dyalpur village. and other valuables. Two brothers suffer burns; car, bike also damaged Our Correspondent Garhshankar, April 23 A fire broke out in a tractortrolley loaded with straw on the road connecting the Banga road to the Nawanshahr road in Garhshankar, leaving the driver and co-driver, both brothers, seriously injured. The incident also resulted in significant damage to a car and a motorcycle that came in contact with the flames. Pradeep Singh, a resident of Makkhuspur under Mehtiana police station, was travelling with his brother Sukhvir Singh on a tractortrolley loaded with straw bundles. As they were passing through Garhshankar, the straw came into contact with overhead electricity wires, triggering sparks that quickly ignited a massive fire. Witnesses said despite the rapidly spreading flames, the driver attempted to steer the burning vehicle away A tractor-trolley turned to ashes after straw caught fire near Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district. from nearby houses to prevent further damage. In the process, both brothers suffered burn injuries. Fire brigade rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control. The injured brothers were taken to the Civil Hospital in Garhshankar, where doctors provided first-aid before referring them to the PGI for advanced treatment. Doctors stated that Sukhvir Singh sustained nearly 80 per cent burns, while Pradeep Singh suffered around 20 per cent burns. Both are reported to be out of danger. Meanwhile, a car and a motorcycle were also damaged in the fire. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
