Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival press conference on Tuesday, the actor emphasised that Hollywood will have to find ways to work with AI. TRIBUNE Talking point Life I believe in the power of voices, voices on the screen, voices off the screen, and definitely voices on the street, especially now. Let’s celebrate audacity, freedom and the fierce act of creation, says Jane Fonda. LUDHIANA | THURSDAY | 14 MAY 2026 PHOTOS: REUTERS Painting The Palme d’Or is something I never ever thought I would win ever, because I don’t make Palme d’Or sort of films. — PETER JACKSON Cannes peach Alia Bhatt stole the spotlight with her red carpet arrival in a sculpted corseted silhouette at the opening ceremony of Cannes Film Festival 2026. On the opening day of the film festival, Alia Bhatt donned the fashion designer Tamara Ralph’s ensemble, which featured a sculpted corseted silhouette, plunging neckline, sweeping train, and a dreamy chiffon scarf trailing behind her. The actress complemented her outfit with the Golconda Rose jewellery, which is a celebration of Amrapali’s legacy and Jaipur’s timeless craftsmanship. To elevate her look, Alia chose Chopard’s earrings and rings for the day. The actress has arrived at the event to represent L’Oreal Paris. Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram handle to share glimpses of her opening day look at the Cannes Film Festival. In one of the snaps, the actress was also seen greeting her fans and the photographers. PALME D’OR FOR PETER JACKSON The Cannes Film Festival officially started on Tuesday night with a more muted tone than in years past, with fewer A-list Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet and politics largely absent from the opening ceremony speeches. Elijah Wood walked the carpet ahead of presenting Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson with an honorary Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement. Others on the carpet included model Heidi Klum, legendary actor Joan Collins and Alia Bhatt. This year’s jury, including Oscar-nominated actors Demi Moore and Stellan Skarsgard, also walked the red carpet into the plush Grand Lumiere Theatre. She returned to Cannes this year in a custom aquamarine couture gown that made the red carpet entirely her own. Dripping in Swarovski crystals from head to toe, she was bejewelled in a creation that took close to a year to bring to life. Neha & Angad WHAT’S HOT come together for Catfights! Is it impossible for female co-stars to get along? Subhash K Jha In two forthcoming films Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, the hero is shown caught among three leading ladies. In both cases the three heroines had a tough time getting along with one another. In fact, the cold vibes among the three heroines of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do—Rakul Preet Singh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Sara Ali Khan—was palpable during the innumerable promotional events the trio of ladies attended. So, is it impossible for female costars to get along? “Not at all!” says Shabana Azmi. “I did Ashanti with Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi and we got along like a house on fire. During Arth, Smita and I were supposed to be tearing each other’s hair. We weren’t friends, but we were not fighting either.” A lot of the time the supposed rivalry between actresses is cooked up by the publicists to create curiosity for a film. Rakhee recalls how the socalled rivalry with Sharmila Tagore during the making of Yash Chopra’s Daag was all a figment of some publicist’s imagination. “We were not friends. But we were not fighting over Rajesh Khanna, as was reported,” laughs Rakhee. However, not all rivalries among actresses are concocted. Mumtaz hated Zeenat Aman since she stole the show from the senior actress in Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The bitterness remains as we saw Mumtaz recently spew venom against Zeenat. Kareena Kapoor’s infamous catfights with Bipasha Basu during the making of Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee was not manufactured by a marketing team. Kareena made some objectionable remarks about Bipasha and Bobby Deol had taken Bipasha’s side. Kareena never spoke to Bobby again. Raveena Tandon’s notorious catfight with Karisma Kapoor during the making of Sanjay Gupta’s Aatish was for real, and Raveena admits it. “It was true. We really didn’t get along. We did have a fight.” c m y b quirky activities, Neha and Angad will be seen bringing out the most fun, vulnerable, and entertaining sides of their guests in every episode.
