CHANDIGARH | THURSDAY | 11 JUNE 2026 As Gullak enters Season 5, Jameel Khan reflects on its relatable magic NonikaSingh COOL COMEBACK The details of actress Pragati Srivastava’s role in the upcoming Maddock Films’ project, starring Vedang Raina, has now been revealed. Reportedly, Pragati will be seen in a key role in the untitled film. S the much-loved Sony LIV show Gullak moves into its fifth season, one of its lead actors, noted actor Jameel Khan, shares why the show continues to strike a chord with audiences. He elucidates, “This is my story, your story, that of the middle class; it’s relatable for it picks up relevant issues, is high on emotional quotient and fun factor. It takes you on a nostalgic trip and reminds you of what you are missing.” Personally, he can see a lot of his father in his character, and he also brings in his own virtues and ideologies to the part of Santosh Mishra. Reprising the part season after season is not difficult for Jameel, only, “I have to ensure that I don’t let my guard down and meet audiences’ expecta- tions.” Though Jameel has a vast body of work behind him and a solid background in theatre too, yet undoubtedly Gullak has been the game changer. The love and adulation that has come his way, thanks to the TVF series, is unparalleled. Whether it has opened doors, well, he shares, “Sure, only when something succeeds people try to trap you into a pigeonhole. I have been flooded with offers to play a father, heroine ka baap, hero ka baap, villain ka baap, this baap that baap and I always tell them can you top up Santosh Mishra baap.” play chandigarh WORDS OF WISDOM A UTHOR and motivation speaker Vivek Atray will launch his latest book, Not So Randomly Yours. To begin with he was not gung ho about Gullak too, for OTT seemed like television to him. Today, he is more than grateful that after much persuasion and negotiation he said yes to TVF whose creative team saw him on stage many years ago and decided he was a perfect fit. Even though in that play Naseeruddin Shah played the father and Jameel essayed the part of his son. Recalling his association with Naseer bhai who often reprimands him for quitting theatre. Like his mentor, Jameel too does not like to gloat about his work, has no PR machinery to propel him forward. He says, “Instead of posting frivolities on social media incessantly, I would let my work do the talking.” Precisely why though he would love to work with his Gangs of Wasseypur director Anurag Kashyap again, he would rather Anurag make that call than pester him on his own. He hails Anurag as a unique director whose working style is ‘undefined’ and remembers his USP “Perhaps, no oth, er director leaves so much room for improvisation and organic acting.” Looking back at his career graph, which has seen significant projects like Mandala Murders, Srikanth, Bada Naam Karenge and upcoming ones like Jugaadu and a Sooraj Barjatya film, there is no room for regret or recrimination. He observes, “I am happy but not entirely content. The day I feel fully satisfied, it would be the end of my career. I feel sky is the limit.” If he seeks versatility in his roles, he feels makers too should be free to experiment with whatever genre they are comfortable with, be it crime thrillers or dramedies. As he spreads happiness through Gullak, his personal gullak is full of love and gratitude. In times when divisive forces are in overdrive, he reminds, “India has always exemplified love and tolerance and we must coexist with pyar mohabat.” Just like his onscreen Mishra family does, minor niggles aside. DEGREE OF SUCCESS A STILL FROM GULLAK Chiranjeevi and Sridevi were one of the most iconic on-screen pairs in Telugu cinema, celebrated for their electrifying chemistry I have been flooded with offers to play a father, heroine ka baap, hero ka baap, villain ka baap, this baap that baap, and I always tell them can you top up Santosh Mishra baap! Janhvi carrying her legendary mother’s legacy forward? Subhash K Jha Janhvi Kapoor has come under a profusion of condemnation for being objectified brazenly in Buchi Babu’s Peddi. Apparently the producers paid her amply and promised the film would carry forward her mother Sridevi’s legacy of blockbuster Telugu films with Ram Charan’s father Chiranjeevi. Chiranjeevi and Sridevi were one of the most iconic on-screen pairs in Telugu cinema, celebrated for their electrifying chemistry and chart-topping dance numbers. Tragically, after Peddi no one wants to see Sridevi’s daughter and Chiranjeevi’s son together on screen again. Before the release there was much excitement over the pairing. The Peddi producers were planning another film with Janhvi and Ram Charan. The project has been quietly dropped after the audiences’ response to the lead pair in Peddi. And it is not entirely Jahnvi’s fault. Janhvi is in Peddi for no more than 15 minutes. During this time she is shown dressed in the skimpiest of cholis and ghagras, thrusting her bosom at the hero and the camera. Her performance is not only loud, it is lewd. Ram Charan ogles at her from every angle with lustful intent. A Hindi filmmaker known for his heightened aesthetic sense and for projecting his heroines as screen goddesses, feels Janhvi needs to slow down. “She is lovely. But no one can be Sridevi, not even her daughter. To expect her to live up to her mother’s standards is really unfair on her. What they have done to her in this film (Peddi) is unforgivable.” c m y b Alpha teaser gives fans the first look at the actress as the spy character, Sita Kamaal hai! Diljit Dosanjh features in special Kya Kamaal Hai video dedicated to refugees The makers of Main Vaapas Aaunga on Wednesday dropped a special version of the song Kya Kamaal Hai, which pays a tribute to refugees around the world forced to leave their homes. The video, featuring the movie’s lead star Diljit Dosanjh, will play during end credits of the film, which is set to be released in theatres on Friday. The video is an ode to the lives of displaced people, acknowledging their pain and loss while celebrating their resilience. “No education ever goes waste,” says Jameel Khan, who did his schooling at the prestigious Sherwood College, Nainital and has a master’s degree in English literature. All this has held him in good stead at every stage and in many ways including in doing research for various companies, dubbing and voice overs from English to Hindustani. Alia goes undercover The wait is over for all cinephiles who were waiting for the first glimpse of Alpha, as Yash Raj Films has unveiled the teaser of the action thriller. The teaser gives fans the first look at the origin story of Alia Bhatt’s spy character Sita. The action-packed teaser introduces viewers to Sita’s journey long before she became a skilled operative. It opens on her 18th birthday, where she is seen sharing what appears to be a quiet moment with her father, played by Bobby Deol, at a restaurant. However, the celebration doesn’t last long, as he assigns her a high-risk mission inside the hotel. Soon after, audiences are introduced to Alpha, a top-secret programme designed to train India’s next generation of elite soldiers. The initiative puts recruits through intense physical and mental challenges, preparing them for dangerous missions in the world of espionage. The teaser then shifts gears into high-octane action with Alia showcasing a never-seen-before avatar. From hand-to-hand combat sequences to high-risk operations, Sita is seen taking on multiple opponents and navigating dangerous situations with confidence. Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha stars Alia in the lead role, with Sharvari playing a pivotal part in the story. The makers have now advanced the release by a week, with Alpha set to arrive in cinemas worldwide on July 3. —ANI
