INBRIEF 7 GM OF HEROIN SEIZED, MAN HELD Phagwara: The police have arrested Sachin of Chhaj Colony, Phagwara, and allegedly recovered seven gram of heroin from him. A police party noticed a youth who allegedly became apprehensive on seeing the police and attempted to turn back. He was apprehended and identified as Sachin. A case was registered in this connection. OC TWO ARRESTED FOR AC THEFT Phagwara: The police have arrested Manpreet Kumar of Amrik Nagar, Phagwara, and Balwinder Kumar of village Plahi, in connection with the alleged theft of two airconditioners from a shop of Sarabjit Jhakhu of Dhesian Kalan, Phillaur. CCTV footage reportedly showed two unidentified persons breaking the lock and taking away the units. OC MAN ARRESTED WITH HEROIN Phagwara: The police have arrested Rajvinder Singh of Lakhan Kalan, presently living at Lattian Wala, Sultanpur Lodhi, after allegedly recovering 12 gram of heroin and 20 intoxicating tablets from him. The accused was allegedly waiting for customers near a link road in the area when the police team caught him. The accused was apprehended and drugs were seized from him. OC SIX BOOKED FOR ~51-LAKH FRAUD Phagwara: The police have registered a case against six persons following a complaint by Dr Amanpreet Singh of Saidpur, Kapurthala, who alleged that he was cheated of Rs 51 lakh on the pretext of obtaining a franchise in Delhi. The complaint was submitted to the SSP, Jalandhar Rural. The man had allegedly been lying unattended for several days without medical care. Passersby, who noticed his condition, said the wound was deep and infected, with insects visible inside it. The case came to light on Friday when volunteers associated with the Waris Punjab De noticed the man and attempted to get him admitted to the Civil Hospital. The activists alleged that the hospital authorities initially declined to admit him, citing the severity of his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur. According to DSP Palwinder , Singh, who reached the spot soon after the incident, Jaswinder and the accused Gurpreet Singh had been living together in a live-in relationship for the past few years. The DSP said a quarrel over an issue reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation between the two. During the incident, Jaswinder allegedly sustained serious injuries from a sharp-edged weapon, while Gurpreet Singh also suffered critical injuries in the scuffle. Both were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where doctors declared Jaswinder brought dead. Gurpreet Singh, whose condition was stated to be critical, was referred to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar for further treatment. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against Gurpreet and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the woman’s death. District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Kumar Bhatia said a food safety team seized and sealed 240 kg of desi ghee, 500 litre of juice and 190 litre of jeera soda after finding that the products had crossed their expiry dates. The seized stock would be destroyed, he said. Dr Bhatia said the department had received complaints regarding the sale of expired food products in the city and had been keeping a watch on the matter for the past few days. The inspection was subsequently carried out at the trading firm. Thakur urged the authorities to expedite work on the Cantt Periphery Road, which, he said, had remained pending for several years. “The proposed road will start from Atwal House and run along the outer boundary of the cantonment, passing through Chhoti Baradari, Jaswant Nagar, Gada, Subhana, Army Enclave, Dhina, Aladinpur, Hallotali, Sansarpur and Waring before connecting with the GT Road,” Thakur said. The Municipal Commissioner ‘assured’ him that the matter would be examined and action taken. — TNS Youth found dead in Leather Complex Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 24 A 25-year-old missing youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances from the Harnoor Nagar locality falling near Leather Complex here. Family members of deceased Vikram suspect it to be murder. His brother Rakesh Kumar said Vikram was addicted to alcohol and had left home around 10 pm last night after consuming alcohol. They said they had been looking for him this morning when some youths from neighbourhood said they had found him lying unconscious in a lane. Rakesh Kumar said that blood was oozing from his mouth. Eyewitnesses said that his footwear were found quite far away from his body and he seemed to have been dragged to a distance. There are reports of some syringes also having been found from near the spot. Aatish Bhatia, ACP Jalandhar West, said, “Our teams reached the spot immediately after getting the information. During preliminary examination, no visible injury marks were found on the body. However, slight blood clotting was observed behind the ear. The body has been preserved at the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem examination and receipt of the medical report.” Police teams are examining the CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation. Further legal action will be taken as per the statements of the family members and the facts that emerge during the investigation, said the ACP .
