Chairman of the Disciplinary Action Committee Avtar Henry issued a show-cause notice to Dhillon on Sunday, directing him to submit his reply within three days. Henry has written, “A complaint has been received against you by the PCC. There have been allegations that you behaved inappropriately with Tarkhan Majra and passed objectionable and derogatory comments against him. You are given three-day time to give a satisfactory reply, failing which a disciplinary action can be taken against you”. Dhillon confirmed having received the notice. He denied any allegations of manhandling that have been going around. “It was just an exchange of verbal arguments. I hope I shall be able to sort it out”, he said. While Dhillon is a ticket aspirant from Ropar, Tarkhan Majra has been claiming the ticket from Bassi Pathana and hence they do not have any direct political confrontation. Before submitting a complaint to PCC president Pargat Singh, he posted on Facebook: “I am a loyal Congress worker and have been serving the party for decades. The assault and use of casteist remarks by Brinder Dhillon at Congress Bhawan, Chandigarh, have deeply disturbed me. At a time when the 140-year-old Congress is led by Mallikarjun Kharge, a leader from the Dalit community, such an incident is extremely unfortunate. I appeal to Pargat Singh to ensure justice and take strict action in the matter. What happened to me should not happen to any other party worker. My fight is for my self-respect, the dignity of the Dalit community and justice.” Even though the notice was issued on Sunday, it came into public domain today, just a day before the rally of Rahul Gandhi in Sangrur. There are reports that AAP leaders plan to take an advantage of the anti-Dalit sentiment within a section in the Congress. TRIBUNE PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH MC to link property UID numbers with property, water and sewer bills Rishika Kriti Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 3 The Municipal Corporation (MC), Jalandhar, has initiated the process of linking unique identification (UID) numbers allotted to residential, commercial and industrial properties with their property, water and sewerage bills under the Smart City initiative. According to officials, Geographic Information System (GIS) tools will be used to map properties and integrate their details with the billing records, helping the civic body streamline tax collection, improve record management and identify properties that may have been left out of the tax net. As per official data, Jalandhar has around 3.25 lakh properties, including 1.94 lakh residential, 41,601 commercial, 5,423 industrial and 18,692 mixed land-use properties. The remaining 66,112 properties comprise plots, agricultural land and religious properties. Dr Surjit Singh Saini, urban planner (GIS expert) and team leader at Jalandhar Smart City Limited, said, “The initiative will help the corporation maintain digital records of properties and eliminate duplication in its database.” “Of the 3.25 lakh properties here, around 1.5 lakh are exempted from property tax as their plot size is less than 125 square yards. However, of the remaining 1.75 lakh properties, only around 98,000 are paying property tax. Linking UID numbers with water and sewerage bills will help us identify such properties and bring them under the tax net. We will also have records of properties that are exempted from property tax,” he said. The measure will also allow residents to check their water and sewerage dues using their UID numbers. The MC is planning to bring all its services under the system, allowing residents to access civic services and register complaints through the identification number.
