Preetinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhikhiwind, said the troops immediately followed the movement of the drone. During the search, they recovered one small drone along with one packet of heroin (approximately 542 grams). The contraband was recovered from a farming field ahead of the border fence adjacent to Noorwala village in Tarn Taran district. The recovered drone is a quadcopter (Model - DJI Mavic 3 Classic). The police registered a case though it was still clueless about the perpetrators of the crime. The incident occurred in Subhash Colony on 88-foot road located in Majitha road here. Prem Nath, owner of the house, said that he along with his wife and son live in the house. He said the miscreants entered the house from the rooftop. He said that the accused woke them up and said that they were from Sadar police station. They said the police had the information that they (Prem Nath’s family) were involved in drug peddling and wanted to search the house. He said the accused detained them in a room and started searching the entire house. They did not allow them to switch on the lights. After an hour, they went away after shutting the gates with ropes. He said when they searched the house later, they found ~3 lakh and 20 tola of gold jewellery missing from the house. They immediately informed the police which started a probe. Assistant Commissioner of Police Varinder Singh Khosa said that footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area were being analysed to find clues about the crime. The police have found some men with covered faces. Further probe was on in the matter. Jalandhar, February 29 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached properties worth Rs 27 crore belonging to Amritsar-based Snehal Enterprises, Viroo Mal Mulakh, Raj Jain Rice Mills Pvt Limited and others. The ED has acted against the business group for alleged violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency has attached immovable properties including land, plant and machinery under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED had lodged Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in 2021 on the basis of FIRs registered by the CBI and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Chandigarh, against Snehal Enterprises and others. Amritsar, February 29 A meeting of the Youth Congress leaders was held here today at Congress Bhawan in Hall Bazaar under the leadership of Ravi Prakash Ashu, secretary, Punjab Youth Congress, to review preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Party leaders made attempts at the meeting to resolve differences in the Amritsar Youth Congress and strengthen unity before the upcoming elections. Ravi Prakash Ashu said that under the BJP government at the Centre, efforts were being made to suppress the voice of the farmers. He added that under AAP government in Punjab, the law and order situation had deteriorated. He said the voters of Punjab would give a betting reply to the anti-people policies of BJP and AAP and vote for the Congress to find solutions to their problems. Senior leaders of the YC were also present. — TNS Amritsar, February 29 A youth was shot at in Islamabad area in broad daylight here on Thursday. The youth was seriously injured. An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. The injured was identified as Amanpreet Singh (27) and the accused as Navpreet Singh, a resident of Kot Khalsa area, who fled the spot after the incident. The injured was admitted to the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial Civil Hospital for treatment. Senior police officials led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Darpan Ahluwalia and Assistant Commissioner of Police Surinder Singh reached the spot and started a probe. A preliminary probe revealed that the accused allegedly had an affair with the victim’s wife before their marriage. The accused wanted her to leave her husband. He had allegedly been threatening Amanpreet for the past some time. Finding an opportunity today, he shot at him, said the police. The deceased, identified as Vijay Khanna (78), used to live alone in the house. The incident came to light when his neighbourers heard the voice of cutting something with a saw. When they shouted what happened, two persons came out of the house after jumping over the wall and fled the spot. Residents from the neighbourhood repeatedly knocked at the door and found no response and thereafter they informed Sessions Judge pays visit to Goindwal jail Tarn Taran, February 29 District and Sessions Judge, Tarn Taran, Priya Sood along with other judicial officers on Thursday visited the Central Jail at Goindwal Sahib here. The Sessions Judge checked living conditions of the inmates and also took stock of sanitary conditions in the kitchen and the barracks. The Judge ordered the jail authorities to redress the problems of the inmates. The authorities were also instructed to conduct regular medical examination of the inmates and sanitise the jail complex. The Sessions Judge apprised the inmates of their rights and the free legal aid facility being provided them. The incident left the residents of the locality shocked who said that the CCTV footage in the area found two persons entering the house by jumping over the walls who escaped when the people raised an alarm. Farmers want case against real culprits Tribune News Service Amritsar, February 29 Farmers led by the Kirti Kisan Union staged a protest on the Bhandari bridge here on Thursday. They were demanding the registration of a murder case against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij. Farmers’ leaders alleged that Subhkaran Singh, who was killed at Haryana border in police firing. KKU leader Jatinder Singh Chinna said, “Personnel of the police and paramilitary forces entered Punjab territory and damaged dozens of vehicles and injured many farmers. The cops also took farmer Pritpal Singh along with them after seriously injuring him.” Chinna said the police force had acted like a gang of organized criminals by using violence on unarmed farmers. Satnam Singh Jhander, district president, KKU, said, “After a week of the violence, the Punjab Government has registered an FIR against unnamed persons for the murder of Subhkaran Singh. What is condemnable is that the FIR has been registered against unknown persons when it was very clear that who killed the youth.” He said the KKU would continue its protest till the real culprits are booked by name. Hardeep Kaur Kotla, state committee member, said, “The methodological violence against the farmers from the start of the march towards Delhi should be investigated by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.” After gathering at Bhandari bridge, the protesters took out a march from Hall Bazaar to Kotwali. A high-level team from ICAR, New Delhi, had conducted rigorous inspections recently following which the accreditation was granted. “The college that has been awarded A+ accreditation by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has already got recognition for a period of five years (till 2029),” said Principal Dr Mehal Singh. He said the KCA is the first college in Punjab to get such recognition regarding degree in agriculture. He said that with this recognition, the value and importance of the BSc Khalsa College principal Dr Mehal Singh along with other officials shows the ICAR recognition in Amritsar on Thursday. The ICAR examined a total of eight main criteria regarding infrastructure, labs, faculty and teaching practices in which the college was found to be meeting all set standards. In a recent case reported at Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, a sheep died after ingesting Chinese string. The cause of death was confirmed after veterinary experts conducted a postmortem of the sheep and the messy China Dor was found in its stomach, choking the poor animal to death. KCVAS Principal Dr Harish K Verma said that upon postmortem of the two-year-old female sheep that perished, it was found that while grazing outside at the farm grounds, the animal swallowed the mushy string that badly affected the rumen of the stomach. “Usually, the livestock and animals on our farms do not directly come in touch with Chinese string.
