MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh visited the spot and inspected the smart road outside the walled city. The MC Commissioner said lakhs of devotees and tourists from all over the world visit Amritsar every day to pay obeisance at religious places. He said the MC tries to maintain cleanliness so that visitors get a good impression of the holy city. Earlier, cleanliness drives were launched at Durgiana Mandir and historical Ram Bagh (Company Bagh), the MC Commissioner said. The MC Commissioner said the circular road inside the city was being cleaned. He also visited the civic body auto workshop where there was a long queue of vehicles that had to be refuelled. He instructed the workshop in-charge to make arrangements to fill diesel in vehicles used for maintaining sanitation on a priority basis so that there was no disruption in the cleaning work in the city. Health officer Dr Yogesh Arora and chief sanitary inspector Vijay Gill were also present during the cleanliness drive. Youth stabbed multiple times at Batala road marriage resort CCTV video of incident goes viral |Victim on ventilator at hospital PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 7 A youth was stabbed multiple times with a pointed weapon by several persons at a parking lot of a marriage resort on the Batala road here on Wednesday night. The victim, identified as Sahib Singh, was a resident of the New Amritsar area. Ironically, the incident occurred in the presence of policemen from the Mohkampura police station. Even after the lapse of 24 hours, the police have yet to register an FIR or take action against suspects involved in the crime. The injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and then to a private hospital where he was on ventilator and had been fighting for life. A CCTV grab of the entire incident has also gone viral on social media. The victim’s cousin, Simranjit Singh, alias Chhavi, a resident of Chheharta, alleged that he was picked up and tortured by the police. He alleged that Sahib Singh remained on the spot for hours, but the police did not bother to provide him first aid or take him to hospital. Simranjit said he was released in the midnight by the police. Simranjit said he along with 5 arrested for arms theft at Tarn Taran gun house Tarn Taran, March 7 The police arrested five more suspects on Thursday with four .32 bore revolvers and one .32 bore pistol that were stolen from a local gun house owned by Manmeet Singh on February 28. The thieves had decamped with 16 double barrel breech loading (DBBL) guns, one rifle, four .32 bore revolvers, one .32 bore pistol and 58 cartridges of different types after breaking a wall of the gun house. The district police and the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) is jointly investigating the theft case. MC officials inspect STP, pumping stations Amritsar, March 7 After MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap raised the issue of choking of sewers, Municipal Corporation Commissioner conducted an inspection of intermediate pumping stations (IPSs) and sewage treatment plant (STP) here yesterday. MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh visited Khaparkheri STP along with Superintendent Engineer Sandeep Singh and Executive Engineer Manjit Singh. He visited some areas where choking of sewerage was reported and asked staff to open manholes. He found that pumps on disposal points were not working properly. He also inspected IPSs on Batala Road and Mohkampura to check the proper flow of sewerage. He said the MC was receiving several complaints regarding sewer problems from various parts of the city. — TNS 5 ex-panchayat members held for bungling ~1.67 cr Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 7 The Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested five former panchayat members of Benka village in Tarn Taran district for allegedly misappropriating government grant received for the development of the village. Those arrested were identified as Gurmej Singh and Jawala Singh, both former sarpanches, and Nirvail Singh, Kabul Singh and Gurbir Singh, all former members of the village panchayat. A VB spokesman said a case was registered against former panchayat members on a complaint filed by Shubeg Singh, a resident of Benka village. The spokesman said during investigation, it was found that the five suspects had embezzled government funds amounting to Rs. 1.67 crore during their tenure as members of Benka village panchayat. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station, Amritsar range. His links with different gangsters were being investigated, he said. — TNS Drone recovered from fields of border village Tarn Taran, March 7 The BSF in collaborated efforts with the Punjab Police thwarted yet another attempt of drone intrusion from across the border into the Indian territory. The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel intercepted movement of a drone in the border area on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. A joint search operation was launched by the BSF and the Punjab Police during which one drone was recovered from fields adjacent to Wan Tara Singh village. The recovered drone was an assembled quadcopter. The drone was found in a partial broken condition. — OC
