The victim told the police that the miscreants entered the dhaba after breaking the wall and took away valuables. On a complaint lodged by dhaba owner Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Preet Nagar, Phagwara, the police have registered a case under Sections 357 and 480 of the IPC. OC 102 BOTTLES OF LIQUOR SEIZED Phagwara: The police have seized nine boxes containing 102 bottles of illicit liquor from Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Rattanpura locality, here, on Thursday night. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said a case had been registered against the suspect under the Punjab Excise Act. OC Jalandhar, March 29 The property tax wing of the Municipal Corporation continued its recovery of tax today, though it was a government holiday on account of Good Friday. On Saturday and Sunday too (March 30 & 31), the wing will continue to recover the tax as only two days are left for the current financial year to end. The wing recovered Rs 22 lakh on Friday, taking the amount recovered to Rs 43.75 crore. The wing has to achieve a target of Rs 45 crore. Officials of the department said that some people were coming to pay the amount, and their inspectors were also going to the field to recover the due amount. The department has been asking people to deposit the tax under the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. The scheme was implemented to provide a major relief to defaulters who are otherwise supposed to pay 20 per cent penalty and 18 per cent interest on the outstanding principal amount of all previous fiscal years. Under the procedure for taking action against defaulters, inspectors of the property tax wing visit different areas to recover the tax. Defaulters who have not paid the tax are served a notice under Section 112 of the Municipal Corporation Act. They have to file a reply within three days, failing which another notice of sealing the property is served under Section 138 of the Act. Deputy Commissionercum-District Election Officer Himanshu Aggarwal said flag marches were being taken out by the administration along with security forces in different areas. He said flag marches would also be taken out by the administration, along with the security forces, in all Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Jalandhar district in the coming days. He mentioned that the district administration was duty bound to maintain peace during the Lok Sabha elections. Anti-social elements would not be allowed to disturb peace in the district. TRIBUNE PHOTO: MALKIAT SINGH Nakodar, March 29 The Nakodar Sadar police today claimed to have busted a fake de-addiction centre and rescued 23 youths kept there. Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankur Gupta said the fake centre was run in two rooms constructed at a dairy farm owned by drug smuggler Ranno, a resident of Shankar village. The SSP said Ranno gave this portion on rent to Karamjit Singh, alias Boby, a resident of Garrha village falling under the Phillaur police station, who had no medical degree and any permission from the authorities concerned to operate a deaddiction centre. The SSP said a medical team, led by the Senior Medical Officer, Shakar Civil Hospital, reached the spot and examined the youths. They were later admitted to a deaddiction centre in Jalandhar. Gupta said Boby had been arrested, while Ranno was absconding. Over 15 cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against her. The police recovered four two-wheelers from the centre. — OC Three nabbed with illicit liquor, 700 intoxicant tablets Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 29 During a search operation at Sohal Khurd village here yesterday, the Nakodar city police arrested three persons with illicit liquor and intoxicant tablets. The police got a tip-off that Jadvinder Singh, alias Kindi, a resident of Sohal Khurd village, was indulged in illegal liquor trade for the past some time. Acting on the tip-off, a police party raided the house of the suspect and recovered 22 litres of illicit liquor. The police arrested the suspect. A case Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act was registered against the suspect at the Nakodar police station. During the search operation, ASI City Nakodar Hans Raj, along with a woman police officer, recovered 700 intoxicant tablets from Jasvir Singh, alias Babbu, and his wife Jaswinder Kaur, residents of Sohal Khurd. The police arrested the duo. A case under Sections 22B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the duo at the Nakodar city police station. During investigation, the duo revealed that their son Jatinder Worker dies in factory cylinder blast Tribune News Service Phagwara, March 29 A 27-year-old worker died in a cylinder blast at a factory in Amar Nagar locality on the Phagwara-Banga road here. The victim, Baljit Singh, a resident of Khotran village, reportedly suffered burn injuries in his chest and abdomen. He was first rushed to the Civil Hospital. Owing to his critical condition, he was referred to a hospital in Ludhiana. However, he died on way to the hospital. After getting information, the police team reached the spot. They said the factory was storing nitrogen cylinders used in fire extinguishers. Sharing information, District Election Officercum-Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal said at the district level, a permission cell had been established at Room No. 22, MA Branch, in the District Administrative Complex, Jalandhar.
