Damage two vehicles, CCTVs; injure residents They attacked the family of a youth, Navi Doddi, with whom the gangster had some old enmity. They also damaged two vehicles parked in the area. Panic gripped residents when the miscreants barged into the locality. Some CCTV cameras installed in the locality were also damaged. A man, who was returning home from work, was also attacked by them with sharp weapons. The incident occurred around 1 am. A local resident, Manjeet Singh, said the suspects had vandalised his Toyota Innova and Etios vehicles and he had no enmity with anyone. A complaint was lodged by residents against the suspects. The injured have been identified as Tara Singh, Amandeep Kaur, Dheeraj and two elderly women, Sarabjit Kaur and Surjeet Kaur. The finger of one of the injured women was amputated by the assailants. ACP Guriqbal Singh said a case was registered against the assailants and they would be arrested soon. — TNS City markets continue to grapple with parking woes, visitors hit Harshraj Singh Tribune News Service Ludhiana, April 7 In Ghumar Mandi, Model Town, Field Ganj, Pakhowal Road and several other areas in the city as well as old city markets, visitors have been facing inconvenience owing to inadequate parking facilities. New multi-level parking facilities are yet to be built and no alternative solution has been identified in necessary locations. The unavailability of parking arrangements, haphazard parking of vehicles on roads and traffic congestions remain major issues in such markets which are yet to be resolved. Moreover, there is no check on commercial buildings that have come up without parking arrangements. Sarabjit Singh, a resident of the city, said lack of adequate parking results in many vehicles being parked on roads in the market areas of Ghumar Mandi, Model Town and other places, causing traffic congestion. Additionally, improperly parked vehicles are frequently towed away. “The issue is being raised for many years, yet no effective action has been taken to resolve it. Hence, vehicles are generally parked on roads, which often leads to traffic jams. Advocate Gaganpreet Singh said the Municipal Corporation and other departments concerned must make a concrete plan to solve parking issues in markets to avoid traffic-related problems. AAP leaders fast against Kejri’s arrest Ludhiana, April 7 District leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today observed a hunger strike against the arrest of party national convener Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam. MLA Kulwant Sidhu and party district secretary Amandeep Singh Mohi were among those present. MLA Gurpreet Gogi participated in the hunger strike at Khatkar Kalan where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also present. He also observed the fast for the day. The fast was started at 11 am and continued till 5 pm. — TNS Elderly man booked for violating 4-yr-old Man’s body found near factory Ludhiana, April 7 A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually exploited by a 70-year-old man, Sham Lal, at BRS Nagar. The suspect took the child to his house where he raped her. A CCTV camera footage also showed the man taking the girl to his house. Last night when her kin came to know about the matter, they gathered outside the Sarabha Nagar police station and demanded his arrest. The child was playing in a park where the man was also sitting. He initially started an inter- action with her. Later, he took the girl to his room on the pretext of giving her chocolate and sexually exploited the victim. After some time, she came out alone and went to her house. The child’s mother found her private part bleeding, following which she raised the alarm. Initially, the child was taken to a nearby clinic for check-up where doctor raised suspicion of rape. Afterwards, she was taken to the Civil Hospital. SHO, Sarabha Nagar police station, Paramveer Singh, said a case was registered and raids were on to nab him. — TNS Ludhiana, April 7 A man was found murdered near a plywood factory in Dhandari this morning. He was attacked with bricks and stones. Sources said he and his two friends were consuming liquor when an altercation broke out between them. The duo brutally attacked him and killed him on Saturday night. Passers-by saw a man lying dead this morning after which, they informed the police. Later, the Focal Point police reached the scene. They said the face of the victim got badly disfigured in the attack and he was yet to be identified. A case has been registered. — TNS
