The police registered a case against the suspects under Sections 354 and 34 of the IPC. OC VHP ACTIVISTS HOLD DHARNA Phagwara: Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Phagwara, led by its district president Hari Krishan Duggal, on Tuesday registered a protest against the killing of Vikas Parbhakar, president, VHP, Nangal, and staged a dharna amidst noisy demonstration. VHP leaders, including Arun Malhotra, Vivek Gupta, Deepak Bhardwaj, Inderjit Karwal and Arun Khosla, demanded ~1 crore compensation for the family. Gurnam Singh, a resident of Galowal village, told the Dasuya police that Jagjit Singh, a resident of Sector 34-A, Chandigarh, had allegedly cheated his relative of ~29.18 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The Congress announced former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as its candidate yesterday. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got joined former Akali CPS Pawan Tinu yesterday. His announcement as the candidate is expected tomorrow. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had got joined sitting AAP MP Sushil Rinku and had announced him its candidate around three weeks ago. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) too has placed its bet once again on Balwinder Kumar. Parshotam Lal from the CPI (M) is also in the fray. However, the police failed to act against them. Police officials, meanwhile, claimed that they have registered a case against suspects, including Karan Malli and others, and initiated further investigations into the matter. Though sources claimed that three persons had been arrested, the police refrained from confirming the same. They said efforts were on to apprehend all suspects. The first incident took place at an immigration office near the BMC Chowk around 11:30 pm last night, while another incident was reported from UMA Sports Factory near the Leather complex here this afternoon. The fire, which broke out at the sports factory in the afternoon, continued till late evening. Around 50 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. A huge quantity of rubber and flammable material was kept at the factory, which manufactures sports goods. All employees present at the factory were safely evacuated. As per the police, preliminary investigations suggest Jalandhar, April 15 Tightening the noose around anti-social elements, the city police have arrested a person and recovered three stolen motorcycles from his possession. Divulging details, the police said they got a tip-off that Anmol Bagga, who is a habitual offender and has been involved in several vehicle theft incidents, is planning to commit a crime. After getting information, the police laid a trap to nab the suspect. The police arrested Anmol, a resident of Bhagatpura mohalla, Kapurthala, and recovered a stolen motorcycle from him.
