The suspects had been identified as Sandeep Kumar, alias Sonu, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Nakodar, and Gurdial Singh, alias Bagga, a resident of Indira colony, Nakodar. Investigating officer (IO) Inspector Sukhdev Singh said 5 kg charas and drug money worth ~51,000 were recovered from their possession. The IO said a case under Sections 20, 20C, 27-A, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against the suspects. The police also impounded a scooter on which they were travelling with the contraband. Having joined the party five days ago, Pawan Tinu had called upon AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal in Delhi on Wednesday, along with AAP’s Ludhiana candidate Ashok Pappi Prashar. Meanwhile, AAP MPs and MLAs have been heading to Delhi to express solidarity with their jailed leader Arvind Kejriwal and seek his wife Sunita MOBILE PHONE, CASH STOLEN Nakodar: The Nakodar City police have booked unidentified persons on the charge of stealing cash and mobile phone from a house. Ram Dareshi Shah, a resident of Mohalla Rehman Pura, Nakodar, told the police that thieves barged into his house on the night of April 18 and fled with ~20,000 and a mobile phone. Investigating officer Harinder Pal said a case under Sections 457 (lurking house-trespass) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IIPC had been registered. The candidate-less AAP cadres had been facing disappointment after the walkout by their Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, April 19 The city and Chabbewal police have arrested six accused belonging to a vehicle-lifters’ gang and recovered 12 stolen twowheelers from them. Giving information in this regard, Inspector Deepak Sharma, in-charge, city police station, said they had received secret information that two of the accused were coming towards Bhangi Choa with a stolen Activa. He said that the police set up a special blockade under ASI Jaswinder Singh. When the police stopped the two accused riding an Activa and investigated, the vehicle was found to have been stolen. During the interrogation, the accused were identified as Yelim Bhatti, a resident of Mohalla Gobindgarh (Bahadurpur) and Yashpal, a resident of Jagatpura. He said that after presenting the alleged accused in court, they obtained a two-day police remand and interrogated them. He told the police that he along with Navdeep Singh alias Navi, a resident of Chauhal, stole the vehicle. Ajaib Singh, in-charge of Udhar police station, Chabbewal, said that on April 16, during singer Satinder Sartaj’s show in village Bajrawar, complaints were received regarding theft of three bikes. After thorough investigation, the police arrested Jasveer Singh alias Jagroop Singh, Balveer Singh alias Bunty, a resident of Bhilowal and Jujhar Singh alias Jimmy, a resident of Bajrawar and interrogated them. Seven vehicles were recovered including the three bikes. He said that the accused will be interrogated further. Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ankur Gupta said the suspect had been identified as Meena Rani, a resident of Goraya. A team of the Goraya police, led by Inspector Madhu Bala, nabbed her near a checkpoint at Dhaleta village while she was coming on a scooter. The police also impounded her scooter. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect, said SSP Gupta. Railway police Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar said the suspects had been identified as Riki, Ravi, Jaiki, Ajay, and Seema, all residents of Nakodar. Sukhdev Singh, father of the deceased, told the police that they had a meat shop near the railway crossing. He said the suspects beat his son to death and dumped his body along the railway line. The SHO said a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC had been registered against the suspects. The body had been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Jalandhar, April 19 In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate, led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, averted planned target killings with the arrest of two gangsters of the Bambiha gang and recovered three pistols and 1 kg opium from them. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the police got a tip-off that two dreaded gangsters, owing allegiance to the Bambiha gang, were planning to kill members of their rival gang and were operative in the city. He said based on the inputs, the police nabbed Anil Kumar, alias Rocky, a resident of Kabir Nagar, and recovered a pistol, a magazine and three live cartridges from his possession. Sharma said over 20 cases were pending against Rocky and he remained in jail for eight years across the state. The CP said during investigation, Rocky admitted that one of his accomplices Mukesh Sharma, alias Munna, of Bihar, who is currently residing in Karol Bagh, was also part of this conspiracy. He said Munna was already declared a PO in three NDPS cases and was wanted by the police. The police arrested Munna and recovered one kg opium, two pistols, four magazines and six cartridges from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Ram Pal, a resident of Green Land Colony, Phagwara. Confirming this, Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said after getting a tip-off, the CIA staff team raided the house of the suspect. After seeing the police, he tried to flee in his car. However, they managed to nab him. The police have registered a case. — OC ECI, IT Dept informed about the matter Assistant Excise Taxation Commissioner of the mobile wing Kamalpreet Singh said he tasked Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Sukhjeet Singh to get into action and the recovery was made from a car during a raid. There were two persons in the car when the recovery was made but they could not produce any rele- vant documents. The officials said the recovered valuables had been seized and kept in government treasury. They said the Election Commission and the Income Tax Department had been informed about the matter. DC directs revenue officials to settle recovery cases on priority Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 19 Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Agarwal today took stock of the performance of the Revenue Department wherein he asserted that pending mutation cases to be disposed of on a priority basis in mutually agreed cases. He said cases related to mutations and demarcation of land should be heard continuously. If the parties concerned agree, cases should be settled immediately. He also asked officials of the Revenue Department to settle recovery cases on a priority so that there was no loss to the government exchequer. The Deputy Commissioner said the authorities should hold revenue courts on a regular basis and the revenue court management system should be continuously updated. Revenue cases pending for the past one year or longer should also be heard on a priority. He also directed SDMs to personally supervise the status of pending applications related to caste/category/income certificates so that these could be disposed of at the earliest. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
