Investigating officer (IO) and Talwandi Sangherra police post in-charge Buta Ram said the suspects had been identified as Jatinder Singh, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Phagwara, and his mother Sukhwinder Kaur. Monika, a resident of Talwandi Sangherra village, told the police that her husband and mother-in-law harassed her and mentally torched her for bringing more dowry. They also beat her up and threw her out of the house. A case under Section 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC has been registered. OC FOUR YEARS ON, PO ARRESTED Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), who has been absconding for the past four years. Investigating officer (IO) Keal Singh the accused had been identified as Jaswinder Singh, alias Shinda, a resident of Malsian village. He was wanted in a case of drug peddling registered in 2017 and was declared a PO in 2020. OC MAN NABBED WITH PISTOL, CARTRIDGES Phagwara: The police have arrested a criminal and recovered a 7.65 mm pistol and three live cartridges from his possession on Sunday night. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the suspect had been identified as Kulwant Singh, a resident of Panchhat village near Phagwara. The police have registered a case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against the suspect, said SP Bhatti. OC TWO VEHICLE THIEVES HELD Phagwara: The police have arrested two vehicle thieves and recovered a scooter and two motorcycles from their possession on Sunday night. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the suspects had been identified as Yulafkar and Mohammad Bittu, both residents of Joginder Nagar locality in Phagwara. The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Bhogpur, and Kapil Kumar Gupta, a resident of Kishanpura in Jalandhar. The injured person, identified as Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar, is undergoing treatment. The impact of the collision was so strong that the front portion of the car was completely damaged in the mishap. Gurpreet died on the spot, while Kapil succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The accident led to a huge traffic jam on the highway. The Sadak Surakhya Force, along with the Cantonment police, shifted the victims to the hospital. OC Jalandhar, April 22 With the onset of the new academic session 2024-25, Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal directed officials of the Education Department to expedite distribution of books through book banks in schools awaiting supplies so as to ensure uninterrupted education for students. While assessing the performance of the Education Department at a meeting held at the district administrative complex here, Aggarwal asked the officials to personally oversee distribution of books in schools. Taking stock of the mid-day meal, the DC underscored the importance of providing nutritious meal to students. He directed officials to conduct regular inspections to maintain food quality and kitchen hygiene standards. While one child suffered minor injuries, two others suffered serious injuries. Passersby came to the rescue of the injured children and informed the police about the incident. After getting information, the police immediately reached the spot and took the e-rickshaw driver into their custody. As per eyewitnesses, reckless driving was the reason behind the accident. The party has won only once from Jalandhar in 1996 when Darbara Singh became MP from here. Ever since, the party has always chosen to project a new face, but not got success. Even when the party remained in alliance with the BJP it , could never regain from here. In its solo contest this time, the party has picked former Congress MP MS Kaypee today. In the 2023 LS bypoll here, Dr Sukhwinder Sukhi, Banga MLA, was the candidate. In 2019, Charanjit Atwal, who is now with the BJP , was its candidate here. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
