Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Mohali, reported that his car was hit by an SUV driven by Gurpreet Singh of Sector 44. He sustained injury and was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Sector 32. The police have registered a case at the Sector 49 police station. The accused driver was arrested and later released on bail. TNS Sandeep Rana Tribune News Service WORKERS’ CONVENTION Former MP was sent invitation: Sources INDIA VOTES 2024 Chandigarh, May 5 Disgruntled Congress leaders, including three councillors, who are considered close to former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, finally expressed their support to party candidate Manish Tewari during a major workers’ convention held at Dhanas this evening. However, four-time MP and party stalwart Bansal gave it a miss. Sources said Bansal was sent an invitation for the event but he did not turn up. Councillors Gurpreet Singh Gabi, Sachin Galav and Nirmala Devi along with a large number of officebearers and workers of the party extended their support to the party candidate. They had earlier held a meeting and announced a major convention of workers to decide on whether to support Tewari or not. They had alleged that they were not being heard in the party. Some of them had even demanded a working president for the city unit. However, Tewari along with Manish Tewari arrives at Dhanas for workers' convention on Sunday. Councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi said all of them would work for the victory of the party’s official candidate. Manish Tewari said seeing the turnout of workers at the convention, he was sure of the Congress’ victory. Congress president HS Lucky was able to pacify them. The faction of disgruntled leaders and workers, which was led by Gabi, held a major event today to publicly express their support to Tewari. Gabi had got phone calls from two senior leaders from Delhi, including Rajeev Shukla, who tried to convince him to stand with the party candidate. Resentment among party leaders and workers surfaced after Tewari was named candidate for the city LS seat. Bansal was also in the race for ticket. Several leaders associated with Bansal, including Congress Mahila Morcha president Deepa Dubey, had resigned from their posts. However, city Congress president HS Lucky said, “All is well in the party. Bansalji is our very respected and senior leader. While Modi continues to be the poster boy for the BJP for a third straight LS poll, only Tewari’s big pictures are displayed at these stations as INDIA bloc candidate though leaders of the Congress and AAP feature in inset. Both parties have highlighted their respective “guarantees” through these advertisements. The BJP’s tagline goes “Phir ek baar Modi sarkar.” The party, which took a lead in displaying its ads at the docking stations, has listed its achievements such as scrapping of Article 370 and construction of Ram Mandir. Uplifting 3 crore women as “Lakhpati Didi”, making India a global manufacturing hub, helping set up a record number of startups, ensuring extension of Metro and Vande Bharat trains, and bringing bullet trains among others are “Modi ki Guarantee” the BJP has highlighted in its advertisements. Recent trends indicate the likelihood of severe heat wave from April to June. The advisory is aimed at raising awareness among the general public and minimising the impact of heat wave on health. The police have recovered the body and booked her brother and sister-in-law on a complaint filed by her father. Rakesh Yadav, SP (Investigation), said in a statement given to the police, Jaspal Singh, a resident of Nalina Khurd village, said her daughter, Sumandeep Kaur (21), was a national hockey player and was pursuing MA at Punjabi University. She was upset as his son Vikramjit Singh and his wife Pinky ill-treated her. Deceased Sumandeep Kaur On April 29, her daughter left home at 8 am. When she did not return home in the evening, a missing report was lodged with the police. He came to know that his daughter had jumped into the canal. They conducted a search in the canal with the help of divers and her body was recovered. The SP said the police had registered a case against Vikramjit Singh and Pinky and arrested Vikramjit. The police are looking for Pinky and she would be arrested soon. Chandigarh, May 5 Data of previous three years at the PGI has showed that 13-15% of women, who suffered from cardiovascular diseases, were less than 50 years of age. Risk factors of heart diseases are much more common in women. The women with heart diseases have worse outcome than men. In a recent study, Dr Neelam, Associate Professor of Cardiology, PGI, showed that 44% women who suffered from cardiovascular diseases, were obese and only 1% of them had adequate fruit intake in their daily diet. Women also had poor awareness about heart diseases and associated risk factors. Despite these known facts, knowledge sharing and awareness about risk factors from health care workers is minimal. Only 47% of the women were advised to reduce salt intake and less than 30% were advised to quit smoking and consume adequate fruits. Research like this is widely read and discussed among the medical fraternity, however, non-medicos largely remain ignorant of such important facts. Considering these alarming facts, it was realised that health care workers already burdened need helping hand to prevent heart diseases. So it is imperative to upgrade existing knowledge among non-medical skilled professional so that they can act as “Health promotors/Ambassadors”. To achieve this mission, Dr Neelam organised a CME, which brought together medical and non-medical professionals at the same platform of knowledge sharing. Obesity pandemic is increasing in women compared to men. Obesity leads to many diseases like heart failure blood clotting and diabetes. Dr Rama Walia, Endocrinologist from the PGI, discussed all adverse outcomes and management of obesity. As shown in various studies, Indian diet is not hearthealthy one, Indians consume more salt and sugar and less of vegetables and fruits. Dr Nancy stressed the importance of healthy diet and how to consume a bal- anced diet even in a hectic work schedule. Sedentary lifestyle is the root cause of all risk factors of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and obesity. Today’s demanding work schedule leads to inevitable stress that bring unhealthy sleep habits in people. Dr Ritu Nehra, Clinical Psychologist, discussed the importance of healthy sleep habits and enumerated the ways to get a healthy sleep. Cardiovascular disease is a major health concern in India, responsible for a significant number of deaths each year. Risk factors of cardiovascular diseases mainly hypertension, diabetes, obesity, sedentary lifestyle and stress are much more common in India than in the Western countries. Heart disease is not exclusive to men, it also affects women. It is the leading cause of death in women and even young women are not spared.
