Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Vatsala Gupta said the police nabbed two drug smugglers and recovered 100 grams of heroin from them. The suspects had been identified as Kulwinder Singh and Gurmukh Singh, residents of Narangshahpur village near Phagwara in Hakupura Hadiabad. The police also recovered a car in which they were going to sell drugs. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspects. The SSP said in another case, the police arrested another drug peddler and recovered 105 intoxicant tablets from his possession on Monday night. The suspect has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Jagral village near Jalandhar. He was nabbed at a check-point near Law Gate, Miherru. OC BIKERS FLEE WITH WOMAN’S PURSE Phagwara: Three unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a purse from a woman on Monday. The incident took place when the victim, Harinder Kaur, a resident of Bedian Mohalla, Phagwara, was returning home after work. The miscreants snatched her purse containing a mobile phone, bank keys and other documents. They managed to flee after committing the crime. The police have registered a case under Section 379B of the IPC. The issue assumed importance as the locality falls in the Jalandhar West Assembly area, which is going for bypoll on July 10. The residents were led by Congress leaders, including Deputy Mayor Surinder Kaur and Ashwani Jhangral. Both are aspirants for ticket from the Congress, which is yet to announce its candidate. Around 75 residents from the area reached the site and blocked traffic at Company Chowk to lodge protest. The DIG found that only one Moharrir Head Constable (MHC) was present at the police station and that too without arms. The roll call scheduled at 8 am also did not occur. The SHO and the DSP were found sleeping at their homes during the duty hours. Following this, the SHO was suspended and sent to the Police Lines. During the inspection, DIG Gill checked the records of the police station and the presence of the force. Police personnel were given strict guidelines to perform their duties. Hoshiarpur, June 18 A man and his son were killed after an Innova SUV and a motorcycle collided head-on near Adda Davida Ahirana Bhatta on the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road here. Sharing information, Sub-Inspector Usha Rani, SHO of the Mehtiana police station, said the deceased had been identified as Amarjit Singh (50) and his son Navpreet Singh, alias Sahil (19), residents of Ludhiana. They were going to Hoshiarpur from Phagwara on a motorcycle. The SHO said when they reached near Adda Davida Ahirana Bhatta, their motorcycle collided headon with the SUV. Passersby took the injured persons to the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, where Amarjit succumbed to his injuries. Owing to his serious condition, Navpreet was referred to Ludhiana. Station House Officer (SHO) Gurshinder Kaur said the suspects had been identified as Raj Kaur, a resident of Dharme Dian Chhnana village, and Surjit Singh, alias Seeta, a resident of the same village. The police recovered 4 kg poppy husk from Raj Kaur and 10 gm heroin, ~94,000 drug money, four gold rings, a pair of earrings, a car and a tractor from Surjit. The SHO said the police recovered 7 kg poppy husk from Paramjit Singh, a resident of Umre Wal village, and 150 intoxicant tablets from Vikram Singh, a resident of the same village. Cases under various sections of the NDPS have been registered against the suspects. The Nakodar Sadar police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 210 intoxicant tablets from his possession. The suspect had been identified as Varinder Singh, alias Matti, of Shankar village. The police also impounded his motorcycle.
