SSP Vatsala Gupta said the police recovered seven grams of heroin from Mukesh Tandon, a resident of Daddal Mohalla, Phagwara; 500 grams of ganja from Mohammad Rinief, who is residing at a PG here and a native of Kerala; 210 intoxicant tablets from Seema Rani, a resident of Chhajj Colony, Phagwara; 175 intoxicant tablets from Maya Rani, a resident of Chhajj Colony, Phagwara; and 310 intoxicant tablets from Mandip Singh, a resident of Joginder Nagar, Phagwara. The police said the suspect had been identified as Baljinder Singh, a resident of Pandori Jagir village. Paramjit Kaur, a resident of the same village, told the police that the suspect waylaid her on June 16. He assaulted her and also threatened her with dire consequences. A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restrain), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. However, without completing the requisite formalities, he further sold the plot to Bajwa dairy owners after taking ~10 lakh as earnest money. This led to some verbal arguments. During the operation, the police seized 154 grams of heroin, 55.500 kg of poppy husk, 6,750 ml of illicit liquor, 100 intoxicant tablets and an electronic weighing machine. During “Operation Eagle 4”, the district police arrested nine persons and registered 11 FIRs. The entire operation was supervised by DIG (Jalandhar range) Rajpal Singh Sindhu. The police teams, led by SSP Ankur Gupta and SPs and DSPs, carried out a search operation at 10 drug hotspot villages. The police also verified as many as 81 suspects in the district. SSP Ankur Gupta said the search operation was aimed at nabbing those found involved in drug peddling. The SSP said the police recovered 50.500 kg of poppy husk from Gurmit Singh, alias Gorkha, a resident of Dharme Dian Chhana village falling under the Mehat Pur police station, and Sandeep Singh, alias Sonu, a resident of Kul Gehanna village falling under the Shidhama Bet police station in Ludhiana. Man, kin booked for murdering wife Jalandhar West bypoll: Setback for AAP as Bhagat community leader to join Congress Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 22 The Nakodar Sadar police have booked a man and two other members of his family on the charges of murdering his wife. Station House Officer Jai Pal said the deceased had been identified as Rajwinder Kaur (35). The suspects had been identified as Amrik Singh, husband of Rajwinder Kaur and a resident of Talwandi Salen village, his mother Balwinder Kaur, alias Binder, and brother Jaskaran Singh, alias Jassa. The SHO said Raj Kumar, a resident of Udho Wal village falling under the Mehat Pur police station, told the police that the marriage of his sister-in-law Rajwinder Kaur was solemnised with Amrik Singh around nine years ago. The complainant said Amrik used to harass his wife and often fight with her. Prominent persons in the village tried to intervene several times, but they refused to compromise and continued to harass her. He said Rajwinder came to her parental house in Aalowal village on June 20 and told her mother that her husband used to often fight with her and was also harassing her. Raj Kumar said Amrik rang up his wife Amarjit on June 22 and told her that Rajwinder was not feeling well. He told her that they were taking her to a clinic in Jalandhar and disconnected the call. The complainant said he, along with his wife Amrik, reached Talwandi village and found her dead at her house. There was a deep cut mark on her neck, which indicated that she was strangled. The SHO said after getting information, the police reached the spot and took the body into their possession. The police registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (committing the crime with common intention) of the IPC against the suspects. c m y b Deepkamal Kaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 22 Even as the AAP-led state government tried to woo the Bhagat community ahead of the Jalandhar West bypoll with its promise of setting up a Kabir Dham, the Congress plans to dent the same vote bank of the party by roping in a prominent Bhagat leader, Dr Shiv Dayal Mali. The move comes less than three weeks ahead of the Jalandhar West bypoll. Congress Legislative Party leader Partap Bajwa, Jalandhar MP Charanjit S Channi and Dr Mali to be formally inducted into the party Nakodar halqa in-charge Dr Navjot Dahiya will formally induct him into the party. Dr Mali, who is a skin specialist, took premature retirement from the State Health Department in 2015 as he was posted in the Civil Hospital here. At that time, he had joined the AAP and remained the district president of the party for three years. He was also the state spokesperson for AAP and a senior functionary of its SC wing in Punjab as well its intellectual wing. A prominent SC leader, he was expecting to be fielded as the AAP candidate from the Jalandhar West (reserved) seat in 2017, but the ticket was instead given to Darshan Lal Bhagat then, who lost it. Dr Mali had been reportedly given assurance for the 2019 Lok Sabha poll ticket, but that too did not come and the party instead chose Dr Zora Singh Mann. He had finally lodged a protest when the AAP gave ticket to Sheetal Angural from Jalandhar West in 2022. Dr Mali had then joined the BJP Now as Angural . returned to the BJP he chose , to quit the saffron party too. A formal announcement was made by him two days ago. Dr Mali confirmed that he had decided to join the Congress tomorrow.
