When an employee, Sonu, resisted, the suspects attacked him also. The suspects managed to flee after the incident. Sonu, who suffered injuries, was admitted to the Civil Hospital here. The police have registered a case against the suspects. In another incident a mobile shop was reportedly burgled near the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road on Wednesday night. Unidentified miscreants entered the shop after breaking open its shutters and took away valuable goods, including ~50,000 cash and several mobiles phones. Shop owner Aman Kumar said a watchman informed him that the shutters of his shop were broken. The suspects also took away DVR along with them. The police have registered a case. Investigating officer (IO) Manjinder Singh said the suspects had been identified as Vilas Das, Aklesh Kumar and Neeraj, all residents of Sango Wal village falling under the Mehat Pur police station. Dasrat Muni, a native of Bihar and presently living in Sango Wal village, told the police that the suspects waylaid his minor son Chano Kumar on July 1. They assaulted him and confined him in their house. The suspects also threatened to kill him. A case has been registered. This definitely has not Tarn Taran resident nabbed in money laundering case Tribune News Service Jalandhar, July 4 The Directorate of Enforcement, Jalandhar, has arrested Skattar Singh, alias Laddi of Tarn Taran, in an alleged money laundering of proceeds of drug trafficking under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The ED had taken up the investigation on the basis of FIRs registered by the Pun- jab Police and Narcotics Control Bureau. Earlier, a search under the provisions of Section 17 of the PMLA was conducted at 10 premises in Sheron, Nausheran Pannuan and Bugha villages of Tarn Taran February 3 last year. Besides incriminating documents, narcotic substance and arms were recovered during searches. Though no loss of life was reported, drivers of the vehicles suffered minor injuries in the incident. The protesters alleged that they were getting water mixed with sewage in the Jalandhar West region for the past few days after first mon- soon showers. The region also experienced severe waterlogging after the initial rains of the season, with major areas of Jalandhar West submerged under knee-deep water due to poor drainage system. They alleged that water accumulation leads to breeding of mosquitoes and other healthrelated issues such as typhoid. The protesters gathered in large numbers at Basti Gujan Park and Basti Shekh before marching towards the Municipal Corporation Zonal Office. They symbolically broke pots of contaminated water outside the MC office, demanding immediate action. A large number of affected families also joined the protest. TRIBUNE PHOTO Jalandhar, July 4 To mitigate the risk of flood ahead of the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal yesterday visited the Sutlej banks in Shahkot to review flood protection works. He inspected the ongoing desilting in the river to ensure the smooth flow of water in the river. To save high-risk areas in Shahkot and Nakodar subdivisions from floods, extensive de-silting operations were being conducted. Aggarwal said the administration had embarked on a significant exercise to clear the waterways beneath this crucial railway bridge. The DC highlighted the urgency of this task, directing officials to expedite the pace of de-silting to complete the project before the onset of heavy rains. “Excavation of river mud is critical to enhance the water carrying capacity at this point, thereby facilitating a smoother flow of river water,” said Aggarwal. He said this initiative would significantly reduce the risk of floods, protecting the lives and properties of residents. Aggarwal reiterated that preventive measures had been implemented on a war footing, a first in several years. He assured the public that the administration was fully prepared to tackle any potential flooding scenario with utmost efficiency. — TNS Kapurthala, July 4 Following Punjab Government’s directions to resolve issues of public by making a cluster of villages, the district administration will hold a citizen service camp at Talwandi Chaudhrian village in Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division tomorrow. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, while giving information in this regard, said the camp would be held at Sabzi Mandi bear the Talwandi Chaudhrian bus stand from 12 noon to 3 pm. The camp aimed at providing citizen services at the nearest location to people. He said the camp would be held for 15 villages situated nearby Talwandi Chaudhrian. The DC said officials of various departments, including Rural Development and Panchayats, Social Security and Women and Child Development, Revenue, Health, Water supply and sanitation, Food and Civil Supplies and PSPCL, would remain available at the camp to provide on-the-spot services.
