The accused has been identified as Sagar Singh of Chacha colony, Lohian Khas. A case under Section 65(1) (rape of a woman under 16 years) of the BNS and 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against the accused. OC 3 ARRESTED FOR DRUG PEDDLING Phagwara: The police have arrested three 'smugglers' who were nominated in the case of smuggling 102 kg of poppy husk. The accused have been identified as Parmatma Singh, alias Bhola, of Saichan village in Kapurthala, Gurdit Singh, alias Gitu, of Saichan village and Boharr Singh of Dholewal village in Moga. A case under Sections 15-C/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered in this connection and the truck driver and cleaner were already arrested with 102 kg of poppy husk. Two main accused are still absconding. OC SIX BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Phagwara: The police have booked six villagers, including two women, on the charge of assaulting a woman. The accused have been identified as Gurbag Singh of Reharrwan village his wife Balwindar Kaur, his daughter Lovepreet Kaur, son Sukhveer Singh, Manpreet Singh and Gurjant Singh of Mohariwal village. Binder Kaur of the same village complained to the police that the accused barged into her house on November 18 late evening and attacked her and family members with weapons and seriously injured them. A land dispute was the reason behind the attack. Ex-bank manager held for Gramin Bank fraud Our Correspondent Phagwara, Nove3mber 22 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Pramod Kumar, a former manager of Punjab Gramin Bank’s Bhano Langa branch in Kapurthala district, for embezzlement of Rs 34,92,299. A resident of Kundal village in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, said Pramod Kumar had been absconding since 2022 in this case. Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused was wanted in a case registered under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code at Sadar Police Station, Kapurthala. He said during his tenure as branch manager, Pramod Kumar misused his authority and fraudulently accessed the user IDs and passwords of branch clerks Jagdish Singh and Rajni Bala. Using these credentials, he carried out 26 transactions to embezzle Rs 34,92,299 from the accounts of 12 different bank account holders. It was learnt 5 of gang selling newborns held Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 22 A five-member gang selling newborns from the Civil Hospital has been arrested by the police. The gang included three women and two men. They had plans to sell the baby to a citybased couple for Rs 5 lakh when they got arrested. The accused include Sukhwinder S Rinki, his wife Kulwinder Kaur, residents of New Shiv Nagar of Jalandhar, Paramjit S Sonu, his wife Paramjit Kaur, residents of Prajapat Basti of Moga, and Manpreet Kaur of Kamrawa village of Kapurthala. Two more accomplices of the accused Laddi and Babbu of Muktsar managed to flee. The accused had been produced in the court and the police have got their five-day remand. The accused have reportedly confessed before the police that they have so far stolen and sold 12 newborns for a consideration of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Garhshankar, November 22 Two persons, including a woman, were killed and two more were seriously injured in two separate road accidents that took place since last night on GarhshankarNangal Road. The police have registered FIRs and arrested a truck driver. In the first accident, around 8:30 pm yesterday, a speeding truck loaded with straw, hit a car and dragged it for about a 100 metre. The car was damaged in the accident and car driver Niranjan Singh of Khuralgarh died on the spot. Darshan Singh of Khuralgarh and Bikramjit Singh, who were in the car, were seriously injured. They were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Garhshankar. The truck driver tried to flee the spot but people chased and caught the driver and handed him over to the police. The police have registered a case against truck driver Sarwan Singh of village Ratol, Zira, Ferozepur, under Sections 105, 281, 125, PHAGWARA, NOVEMBER 22 In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in NDPS Act cases, who had been evading arrest for the past one year, along with two drug peddlers, including a woman, recovering 349 narcotic pills and a weapon during a special 24hour drive against drug trafficking. The arrested accused have been identified as Gurkirat Singh, alias Guru, resident of village Butra, who was declared a proclaimed offender by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yukti Goyal on March 4, 2023; Pushpinder, alias Kaka, resident of village Bara, Goraya; and Anjali, resident of Mohalla Santokhpura, Phillaur. SSP , Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, said these arrests were part of an intensified campaign against drug trafficking and street 324 (4), BNS. The police got the post-mortem of the deceased Niranjan Singh done and handed over the body to the heirs today. The third success came when a Phillaur police team apprehended Anjali, recovering 164 narcotic pills during a raid at Mohalla Santokh Pura Phillaur. Three separate cases have been registered. Initial investigations reveal that the accused were operating separately in their respective areas. The female accused had been allegedly selling drugs, while Kaka is suspected to have links with larger drug networks. The arrested accused will be produced in courts and police remand will be sought to investigate their forward and backward linkages with drug trafficking networks. JE gets silver at Powerlifting Championship Jalandhar, November 22 Mohit Dugg, a junior engineer with PUDA and powerlifter, has again put Jalandhar on the global map by clinching a silver medal at the World Powerlifting Championship 2024. The championship was held in Chicago, the US, from November 14 to 17, featuring top athletes from 18 countries, including the US, Canada, Australia and England. Competing in the highly competitive 83 kg weight category, Mohit secured his second place, finishing with an impressive 165 kg bench press. This achievement strengthens his claim for a spot in the world championship for the second consecutive year. In 2023, Mohit became the world champion, begging the gold medal in Manchester, England. — TNS Doctor booked for assault on hospital woman counsellor Our Correspondent Garhshankar, November 22 The police have registered a case on the charges of assaulting and threatening to kill a woman employed as IVF counsellor in the hospital. In a statement given to the police, 52-year-old Kamaljit Kaur of New Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Gill, Dugri police station, Ludhiana district, said she was working as an IVF counsellor in Ramanpreet Hospital, Chandigarh Road, Garhshankar. She said on November 21, around 11:30 am, she was sitting in the medical store of the hospital with Darbara Singh, father of Ramanpreet Kaur, owner of Ramanpreet Hospital, when Dr Jaswant Singh came there and started abusing her and started beating her by pulling her hair and pushed her down. The victim said on hearing her screams, Dr Ramanpreet Kaur and other staff saved her from the clutches of the doctor, then Dr Jaswant Singh left the place threatening to shoot her. While leaving, he threatened her that he would bring a pistol and shoot her. After this, Kamaljit Kaur lodged a complaint on helpline number 112 and the police reached the spot. Kamaljit Kaur informed her husband Bhupinder Singh, then he reached with Sarpanch Nirmal Singh and others. After this, with their help, she got her medical examination done at the Civil Hospital, Garhshankar.
