He said this was not the first crime of the women. Earlier also, they had committed such crimes. OC TWO HELD WITH DRUGS, LIQUOR Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested two smuggling accused, including a woman, recovering drugs and liquor from them. The police have arrested Harjinder Kaur, a resident of Mazara Deengriyan, and recovered 19,500 ml liquor from her. The police arrested Sunil Kumar of Badiyal and recovered nine grams of narcotic powder from him. Jalandhar, December 4 In a major step towards strengthening the state’s power infrastructure, Punjab Power and PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, along with Nakodar MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann, today laid the foundation stone of a 66 KV electricity substation in Chittar Hara village, Nakodar. Addressing a gathering, the Cabinet Minister said the new power station, estimated to cost Rs 7 crore, would have a 12.5 MVA power transformer and 4.5-km long 66 KV line. It would also include nine 11 KV feeders — six agricultural, one urban and two UPS feeders. Once operational, the substation would benefit 20 villages and improve the power supply for another 17 villages, catering to 37 villages. He further added that the substation would reduce feeder length, resulting in fewer breakdowns and providing uninterrupted power to agricultural, domestic and industrial consumers. PHAGWARA, DECEMBER 4 In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two members of an inter-district extortion gang. A Nakodar police team recovered a pistol, ammunition, a mobile phone with a SIM card, a car, and a motorcycle from the accused. The accused have been identified as Gursevak Singh of village Chak Bahmaniya, and Sunil Kumar of Karol Bagh, Kot Ramdas, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, currently residing in village Saidpur. Speaking to the media, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that the arrests were part of a specific campaign against extortionists, looters and other anti-social groups. SP Investigation, Jasroop , Kaur, and DSP Nakodar, , Sukhpal Singh oversaw the operation, while incharge, CIA staff, Inspector Pushp Bali and Inspector Aman Saini, SHO, City Nakodar Police Station, headed the police squad. On December 2, an extortion attempt was reported in Nakodar targeting a doctor. Acting promptly, a case was registered and within 24 hours, the accused were arrested near Saidpur Jhri village in Shahkot. Initial investigations indicate that the accused were involved in multiple extortion plans and may have connections to other criminal activities. Efforts are being made to identify their links. The accused will be produced in the local court today and their remand will be sought for investigation. Jalandhar, December 4 In a series of operations aimed at combating street crime and drug traffickers, the Jalandhar Rural Police have detained 5 persons in 24 hours across all sub-divisions of Jalandhar Rural and filed four FIRs. Police teams have recovered up to 150 narcotics pills, 50 gm heroin, and Rs 4,800 drug money. The accused have been identified as Palwinder Singh, alias Sona, from village Cheema, Kartarpur; Amardeep, alias Harman, from Mehatpur; Vishal from Athaula, Lambra and Balbir Singh, alias Bira, from SBS Nagar. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said special police teams were formed under SP , Investigation, Jasroop Kaur Bath to control street crime and drug smuggling from the grassroot level. The SSP said the Kartarpur police detained a teenager at a naka and recovered 30 narcotics pills. Secondly, the Mehatpur police apprehended a man who used to steal items from fruit vendors and they had also arrested a notorious thief, targeting isolated houses to steal valuables. A police party nabbed him and recovered an AC from his possession.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
