They had given an ultimatum to the MC Commissioner to either fulfil their demands or they will not lift waste from the city. With the MC elections nearing, this announcement had put MC in a tight spot. Ashok Bheel, one of the union members, said the BIOMINING PROJECT YET TO BE COMPLETED ■ A biomining project worth Rs 32 crore under the Smart City Mission has not yet completed in the city. In 2017, a bio-mining project was planned to manage and process the waste at the Wariana dump. ■ The city generates over 450 tonne of garbage every day. Now, other small dump sites are filled and lifting takes a hit every now and then. To tackle the problems, a bio-mining project was started under the Smart City project, but it is still not completed. MC Commissioner had given assurance that he would take up the matter at a meeting in Chandigarh today. “After he gave us assurance, the work was resumed today and now we will hold meeting with him on Monday and take next decision after that,” Ashok said. The city was in a mess in the last two days after the unions had stopped lifting garbage. The unions had been demanding the regularisation of the contractual staff and the recruitment of new staff to improve cleanliness of the city. If garbage lifting stops in the city, it will gain another condemnation from city residents, who will soon be voting to elect their wards councillors. c m y b As elections draw near, MC gets active in Jalandhar city PHAGWARA, DECEMBER 5 Divisional Commissioner of Jalandhar Pradeep Kumar Sabharwal emphasised that the benefits of the Punjab Government’s welfare schemes must reach every eligible person. He directed officials to ensure that no deserving individual was left out. He was reviewing development works and government programmes during a meeting with the Kapurthala administration today. The meeting, held at the District Administrative Complex, was chaired by Commissioner Sabharwal with Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal and other senior officials in attendance. The Commissioner stressed the importance of field visits by officials to address public grievances promptly and effectively. Highlighting key initiatives of the government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Sabharwal instructed officials to maximise public outreach for welfare programmes such as pensions, subsidies on agricultural machinery, the School of Eminence initiative and healthcare services through Aam Aadmi Clinics. — TNS Tribune News Service would not start lifting. This sudden change has shocked residents who are noticing the increased activity by the Municipal Corporation everywhere. Movable and immovable property of a drug smuggler was seized by the Kapurthala police under an ongoing special drive. SSP Gaurav Toora said during a press meet that in November 2024, the property of smuggler Kaushal, alias Dilli Wali, resident of Uccha Taura, Kapurthala, was seized by the police. The drug smuggler had been booked on November 22, 2013, under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Kapurthala City police station. Jalandhar, December 5 Dengue cases in the district reached 125 with two more persons testing positive today. In December, four cases of dengue have been reported in Jalandhar. Of the total 125 dengue cases, 90 are in urban areas and 35 rural. Dengue surveys were also carried out in 1,959 houses todayl. However, no dengue larvae were found. — TNS
