It was wrapped in a gunny bag with the hands and the legs tied with ropes. It is the same spot from where three bodies of unidentified persons were found a month ago. SHO Inspector Manoj Kumar said here on Friday that the incident was reported to the police by Chamkaur Singh of Bainka village and a police party reached the spot and took the body into their possession. The body has been kept at the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Patti, for identification. A case under Sections 103 (1) and 238 of the BNS has been registered by the police. The SHO said the three bodies have not been identified as yet and the police are awaiting the report of the fingerprints of the bodies sent to the Finger Print Bureau, Phillaur. The fingerprints of the body found on Thursday too are being sent for identification to the bureau. The gear box machinery over the canal from where the iron grill was stolen in Tarn Taran on Friday. Gurbaxpuri Tarn Taran, December 6 The iron grill installed around gear boxes on the bridge of Kasur Branch Lower (KBL) canal near the ghrat (grinding) in Rasulpur village was stolen a week back but officials of the Canal Department were still unaware of it. It is for this that no complaint of theft has been lodged with the police as yet. Farmers of the nearby areas said here today that it was a solid and precious grill installed in 1962 at the time of the construction of the Kasur Branch Lower (KBL) canal which was part of the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) which was commissioned in 1914 for the cultivation of an area of 1.7 million acres in the Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal and Khanewal districts and was related to history. The farmers of Rasulpur village said that the grill was not only for the protection of gear machinery but also for the protection for workers who go to the top to handle the flow of water in the canal. The farmers said that this iron grill was not only strong and solid but precious too. They said that a few days back, the thieves came at night with a gas cutter in a tractor-trailer like vehicle. After managing to cut it in over two hours, they managed to escape freely from the spot. It was not noticed by the police though officials claimed that night patrolling is carried out to check crime and theft incidents. When contacted, Simranjit Singh, Executive Engineer, Canal Department, said he was unaware of the incident because of which no complaint has been lodged with the police till date. 3 held with 5-kg heroin, revolver from Ajnala PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, December 6 The Amritsar Rural Police have confiscated 5 kg of heroin along with a revolver from three persons while two of their accomplices managed to flee the spot. Those arrested were identified as Makha Singh of Bhura Kona village in Khemkaran (Tarn Taran), Sajjan Singh of Killi Nau Abad in Zeera (Ferozepur) and William Masih of Jodia Khurd village in Dera Baba Nanak in Batala. Their accomplices Harpal Singh, alias Bhala, and Gursewak Singh, aka Sewak, absconded from the spot. Harinder Singh Gill, SP (Investigations), said raids were on to nab them. Giving details, the SP said during the checking of vehicles in Ajnala, a team of the Amritsar Rural Police signalled a car to stop. On seeing the police team at the checkpoint, the car stopped at a distance from the naka and two youths came out of the car and run away. However, the police took prompt action Three-week trial run of BRTS bus service begins Amritsar, December 6 The operation of Metro buses being run under the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), which were off the road for over the last 17 months, resumed here on Friday. Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal flagged off the buses of route number 201 from India Gate to Golden Gate at Narayangarh. Speaking on the occasion, Dhaliwal said at present, these buses are being started on a trial basis and no fare will be charged from passengers for three weeks. After that, fare will be charged and the bus service will start on all routes. He said the company providing BRTS service had gone bankrupt about one and a half years ago due to which the Metro bus service had to be stopped on all routes. Now, on the demand of residents of the city, these buses are being run by the municipal corporation from today onwards. Tarn Taran, December 6 Two unidentified armed persons fired at the gate of a 70year-old widow’s residence in Ratta Gudda village on Thursday night. In her statement to the Harike police, the victim said that after taking her meals, she along with her younger son Ranjit Singh was sitting in a room of the house when two motorcycle-borne unidentified persons fired at the gate of her house and managed to flee from the spot. Assistant Sub-Inspector Tarsem Singh said that a case under Section 125 of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered against the unidentified accused. As a result, there is currently no one managing these eight parking locations. The affected parking lots include Mata Kaulan Hospital parking stand, District Library parking stand, Rani Ka Bagh to Uppal Hospital parking stand, State Bank to Hotel Park parking stand, Saroop Rani College to Cantonment Chowk parking stand, Municipal Corporation office parking stand, Celebration Mall Link Road parking stand and DTO office parking stand. Residents and commuters are already facing traffic snarls due to haphazardly parked vehicles on city roads. The police have recovered a toy pistol from his possession, a snatched purse, ~1,000 cash and the bike used in the crime. He was identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Nanu of Bagh Ramanand area. He has as many as eight criminal cases registered against him and he came out on bail in July this year after three years of imprisonment. Punjab ranked among the top three states of India in surveys conducted in terms of infrastructure development,” he said. During the programme, Hemant Jain, president, PHDCCI, said that for the last 119 years, PHDCCI has been participating in the country’s progress by cooperating in the industrial revolution. Jain put forward the demand that Punjab government should promote food processing industries in the state, which help solve the problem of unemployment and also that of farmers. The food processing industry is the future of India. “This will be a key solution to many problems. The younger generation has huge interest in food processing industry. The farmers need these types of industry. Through these industries, farmers will be able to get better prices for their crops. This will also help solve the problem of unemployment,” said Jain. Karn Gilhotra, Chair, Punjab state chapter, PHDCCI, said that PITEX is continuously expanding. Last year, around 500 stalls were set up here. This time, more than 600 businessmen have come with their products, he said.
