Working under the guidance of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, projects worth around Rs 77 crore have already been launched in the past for bio-remediation of around 19.62 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste at the Jamalpur main dumpsite of the civic body on the Tajpur road and bioremediation of over 2 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste at the Jainpur site. Now, this third major project has been launched for disposing of around 700 metric tonnes of fresh waste generated in the city on a daily basis. The case was registered at the Salem Tabri police station on Friday. According to reports, head constable Balvinder Ram had the file in his possession but failed to present it in court or hand it over to anyone at the police station. Moreover, allegations said he created a fake copy of the case, further complicating the matter. SI Kashmir Singh confirmed that a case was registered against Balvinder under Section 409, IPC, which pertains to criminal breach of trust. The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim, Balwinder Singh (26), attended his friend’s wedding. A disagreement broke out between Balwinder and two other persons, leading to one of them firing a gunshot that hit Balwinder’s hand. Balwinder was rushed to the Civil Hospital. He was stated to be out of danger now. The police launched a probe into the incident and initiated proceedings to register a case in the matter. According to inspector Harshveer Singh, SHO, Sadar police station, an FIR was being registered against the person who opened fire and further investigation would be launched. The victim, a resident of Guru Angad Dev Colony, said he had attended his friend’s wedding and was participating in the Jago ceremony when the dispute arose. He alleged that one of the young man fired a gunshot, hitting him in the hand. The police are currently investigating the matter and are trying to identify the person responsible for firing the gunshot. The police said further action would be taken once the inquiry was complete. Dachalwal said the civic body had already launched the project for disposing of the remaining over 19 lakh mteric tonnes of legacy waste at the Jamalpur main dumpsite of the MC. ‘Heaps of trash’ would be removed from the dumpsite and around 41 acres of the MC land would be freed after bioremediation of the legacy waste. The site would then be used for effective solid waste management in future. He said now, projects worth around Rs 130 crore had been launched for improving solid waste management in the city. He said the civic body was taking all necessary steps to improve solid waste management in the city but the goal could not be achieved without active support of residents. TRIBUNE PHOTO: HIMANSHU MAHAJAN Samrala SHO dies in road mishap Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 7 Davinderpal Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Samrala, lost his life in a road accident. The incident occurred on a road near Amloh where his Toyota Innova vehicle collided with a stationary truck. According to DSP Tarlochan Singh, SHO Davinderpal Singh had travelled to the Amloh area to investigate a case and was returning to Samrala when the accident occurred around 2 am. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck, resulting in fatal injuries to the policeman. The driver of the truck fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle. Airbags in the front seat of the car had deployed, but unfortunately, the SHO suffered severe head injuries. His vehicle was extensively damaged in the accident. The DSP said SHO Davinderpal Singh was survived by his wife and two children, including a son who resides in Canada as a permanent resident. The family was awaiting the son’s arrival to perform the last rites, which were expected to take place on Monday.
