The accused have been identified Mandhir Singh (husband), Mandhir's father Manjit and mother Paramjit Kaur, all residents of Sadarpura, Sidhwan Bet. The complainant, Rajatpal Kaur, soon after marriage her husband and in-laws started torturing her without any reason. “I was beaten up by my in-laws and husband on November 28 and 29. I have lodged a police complaint and yesterday a case was registered,” she alleged. TNS ONE HELD WITH ILLEGAL WEAPON Ludhiana: The police on Saturday arrested Muhammad Nosad Alam of Pratap Nagar after recovering an illegal country-made weapon from his possession. A police team raided the area near the Sabzi Mandi vegetable market on Bahadurke Road and apprehended Alam. Upon searching him, the police recovered a country-made .315 bore pistol and a rod. Poll hustle bustle can be seen across all the political parties as election procedure starts from Monday and the model code of conduct was imposed with immediate effect. Parties were anxiously waiting for the date to be announced and a lot of political buzz was seen in the city after the elections were announced. The filing of nominations will begin from Monday between 11-3 pm while the last date for filing nominations is December 12. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on December 13 and the last date for the withdrawal of nominations and allotment of symbols is December 14. Elections will take place on December 21 and counting will be done on the same day. The candidates who have close connections with the public and work for the party will be given tickets,” said Gogi. Bhartiya Janata Party, district president, Rajneesh Dhiman, said although elections have been announced with immediate effect and they welcome this decision but the voter lists have not been printed yet and government is playing these games just to win the elections and trying to conduct the elections in a hush-hush manner with little time at disposal. “I will send the complaint regarding this to the EC,” he said. PHOTO: ASHWANI DHIMAN Tractor-trolley overturns, 2 dead Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 8 A tractor-trolley laden with husk overturned on the national highway in Ladhowal in the wee hours of Sunday. Two persons died in the mishap while two suffered serious injuries. The driver of the tractor escaped unhurt in the mishap. The deceased along with the injured persons were sitting on the top of the husk pile. After the trolley overturned, all four fell down and suffered injuries as they got crushed under the load. The deceased have been identified as Sukhvinder Singh of Uccha Pind in Jalandhar and Himmat Singh of Tandi Aulakh village near Kapurthala. The injured were identified as Dhanvir Singh alias Sonu resident of Uccha Pind in Phagwara and Binder Kumar resident of Rawalpindi near Phagwara. The tractor-trolley laden with husk overturned on the road in Ladhowal on Sunday. The police said the incident occured at around 2 am and the vehicle was heading towards Ludhaina city from Phagwara side. After it crossed the Lad- howal toll barrier and reached near the police station, front tyre of the tractor got off and the trolley overturned. Four persons sitting above the load fell down. “Since the incident occured about 200 meter away from the police station, cops from the police station immediately rushed to rescue the injured. The police called ambulance and all four injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital where Sukhvinder and Himmat succumbed to their injuries after reaching the hospital. Other two had also suffered injuries and are now undergoing treatment but they are out of danger. Fortunately tractor driver Amandeep didn’t suffer any injuries,” said the police. After the postmortem, bodies were handed over to the kin and inquest proceedings were initiated, the police said. Woman attempts suicide after being dumped by husband Ludhiana, December 8 A woman dumped by her husband attempted to commit suicide by consuming unknown medicines on Sunday. The woman was rushed to the Civil Hospital under critical condition from where she was referred to DMC hospital. Prem Lata, mother of the woman, said: “The in-laws of my daughter had disowned my son-in-law and daughter. Since then both had been living at our house. Yesterday, my son-in-law left my daughter at our residence and didn’t return and he even didn’t receive phone calls.” He started living with his parents house. My daughter went into depression due to the issue and today morning she consumed several unknown medicines to end her life. “We have lodged a complaint with the police against our son-in-law and his parents,” said Prem Lata. — TNS c m y b Ludhiana, December 8 A meeting of Bharatiya Kissan Union (BKU)-Kadian was held here on Sunday. During the meeting, members od the BKU demanded that as per the orders of the Supreme Court in 2019, teh government should give Rs 2,500 per acre bonus for not burning paddy straw. “Instead of giving bonus, the government has started registering cases against the farmers. All such farmers should be given compensation of Rs 5,000 per acre. 2 booked for sexual assault Ludhiana, December 8 A five-year-old child and a 12year-old girl was sexually exploited in the city. Two separate cases were yesterday registered by the city police. The first case was registered by the Tibba police station against Sahil Kumar, a resident of Chadarlok colony. The complainant, victim’s mother, told the police that her daughter and Sahil were friends. On December 5, the accused took her daughter to a under-construction shop and raped her. The accused had also told her daughter to not reveal about sexual exploitation to anyone and threatened her of dire consequences. An investigation has been launched in the case. The second case was registered against Kapeshwar Giri. Complainant, victim’s mother, alleged that on December 6, the accused was trying to molest her daughter in his room.
