The Jagraon City police arrested the suspect within four hours of the crime. He was identified as Rishav Jain, a resident of Beriyan mohalla in Jagraon. The complainant, Anjali, a resident of Diwankhana mohalla, Jagraon, said was staying with her father in a rented accommodation. Her father, Sanjeev Kumar, divorced her mother about eight years ago due to domestic problems and her two brothers Nitan Sharma and Dheeraj Sharma were staying with their mother in a separate rented house in Kacha Kila, Jagraon. The complainant alleged that her father was working at Lal Palace Cinema in Jagraon. About two years ago, she developed a friendship with Rishav Jain. The complainant said Rishav wanted to marry her and she had also initially agreed but later she came to know that he had started taking drugs. She tried to stop him from taking drugs but he continued with his habit. Rather, he started committing petty thefts as well to fulfil his addiction and even started quarreling with her often. The complainant, Anjali, said due to the drug addiction of Rishav, she had also stopped talking to him for about two months as she knew that her future with the suspect could not go well. As a result, he started harassing her and would often stalk her. She revealed that she had also apprised her father about her harassment by Rishav and her father had also told him many times to stop harassing her. But he continued the same. Instead, he started threatening to kill the woman and her father. Once he came outside her house and abused her. Three loot ~2.5L from mobile shop, one caught by trader Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 13 Three miscreants barged into a mobile shop at King Enclave on the Ferozepur road on Thursday night and looted Rs 2.5 lakh from the shopkeeper. The victim managed to caught hold of one of the robbers while the others fled with the cash on a motorcycle. The shopkeeper, Harpreet Singh, said he was sitting alone at the shop when three youths riding a bike stopped outside his shop. Two of the youths came inside and told him that they wanted to buy a mobile phone cover. As he started showing the same, the miscreants pulled down the shutter of the shop. They took out a sharp weapon from the bag and asked him to hand over cash to them. They took out Rs 2.5 lakh cash kept in a bag. The victim said he pleaded with the miscreants not to take the money but they did not listen. When they were fleeing the scene, two of them escaped on the bike while the third suspect fell on the way as he was pulled by the victim from the rear. The suspect attacked him with a sharp weapon. Hearing the noise, people gathered at the place and informed the Sarabha Nagar police. The police launched a probe to nab the remaining two suspects. PHOTO: INDERJEET VERMA Ludhiana, December 13 The Ludhiana police on Friday arrested a man and seized 160 rolls of banned plastic string from him. The suspect was identified as Lallan Sharma, a resident of Inder Vihar Colony here. ADCP Jagbinder Singh while addressing a press conference stated that a tip-off was received that the suspect was indulging in the illegal business of selling plastic string. After verifying information, the police conducted a raid and nabbed the man. The police seized 160 rolls of plastic string. The ADCP said now, further investigation in the case would be done to inquire about names of big suppliers of plastic string and they would also be arrested in coming days. The banned deadly plastic string is openly available in the market. Shopkeepers in the garb of selling kites had also been selling plastic string. To prevent police action, shopkeepers were not keeping rolls in their shops. Instead, they keep the same at some undisclosed location. — TNS “On the night of December 11, her father finished his duty from Lal Palace Cinema left for home on his bicycle but he did not reach home. I waited for my father for the whole night. Later, when I and my brother were searching for him, we came to know that he was brutally attacked by someone near the palace. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, Jagraon, on Thursday night where he succumbed to his injuries,” the complainant said. The SSP Jagraon, Navneet , Singh Bains, SP Parminder Singh, DSP Jasjot Singh and SHO, Jagraon City, SI Amarjit Singh addressed a press conference regarding the matter. The SHO said when Rishav was committing the crime, CCTV cameras captured the entire incident. After identifying the suspect, the police managed to crack the case and arrest him within four hours. A case of murder was registered against the suspect. Two members of thieves’ gang nabbed Ludhiana, December 13 The Dakha police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang of thieves and nabbed two of its members. The suspects were identified as Bamb Bola of Ravidas Nagar and Santosh Paswan, alias Daku, of Indira Colony, Jagraon. The police recovered two inverters, sharp weapons, a roll of ladies suit, an electronic weighing machine, two cookers, utensils, a motorcycle rehri, one motorcycle, a mobile phone, two wrist watches and other items from the duo. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dakha, Varinder Singh Khosa, said Mullanpur Dakha SHO inspector Amritpal Singh had received a tip-off that the two suspects, along with other aides, had formed a gang of thieves and they had committed several incidents of theft in shops and houses in the Dakha area. It was also involved in vehicle thefts. Khosa said after the arrest of the suspects, the police found that they had kept stolen things in their shanties. Following which, a police team conducted a raid, which led to the recovery of the stolen goods. The DSP said besides the duo, many of their accomplices were still at large and raids were being conducted to nab them. According to sources, their firm is located at Buddhewal Road, where a raid was conducted. The company, being oper- ated by the name of Monga Furnace, was sold by original buyers. The name of the firm was not changed by the new owners. The two new owners, who came from Mandi Gobindgarh, were arrested by the GST wing. Later, the suspects were produced before a court. Party candidates are going for door-to-door campaigning, getting publicity material such as banners, posters, flags, etc, printed and also making use of digital platforms. Dr Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, who is a AAP candidate from Ward 61 and better half of MLA Gurpreet Gogi, said she finds interacting with the people as the best medium for reaching out to the public. “We are making use of print medium and online as well but nothing beats personal connection when one visits families and listen to them. Today’s generation likes interacting through social media more but I think meeting personally is what I love to do,” she said. Another candidate Baljinder Singh said with most people watching recent happenings online, he was preferring the online mediums over conventional posters and banners. “Today is the age of technology and I think this is the best way to interact with the people and put forward your point,” he said. Candidates these days prefer online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and X for advertisements, which had resulted in swindling of orders for the printing industry. Sikander, owner of a print- ing press, said in recent years they had witnessed huge decline in orders related to publicity material. “Online medium has taken over the printing business and people are preferring online and social media platforms these days. We have witnessed 50 per cent decline in sales during the elections,” he said. Ashok Kukreja, a city resident, said candidates should refrain from defacing public property by pasting posters and banners on these. AAP candidate Amrit Varsha Rampal is also visiting houses of residents. “We have always been in touch with the people and with the elections round the croner, it gave yet another opportunity to engage with the public at the ground level,” she said. Nominations of 44 aspirants rejected Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 13 After the scrutiny of the nomination papers, now 663 candidates are in fray for the elections of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. A total of 682 nominations were received from 95 wards, of which 19 were rejected today. In Municipal Council, Maachiwara, 23 nomination papers were rejected and now, 45 candidates are in the fray. In Sahnewal and Mullanpur Dakha municipal councils, one nomination paper each was rejected and now, 73 and 54 candidates are in fray, respectively. Meanwhile, in Nagar Panchayat Maloud, Municipal Council Khanna, Ward 2 and Municipal Council, Samrala, Ward 12, no nomination papers were rejected. A total of 44 nomination papers were rejected after scrutiny on Friday. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by Saturday. The electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for the voting on December 21 and the polled votes will be counted on the same day at the polling station itself, after the completion of polling of votes.
