Following a preliminary probe and statement of the victim’s son, the police have booked three persons on charges of abetment to suicide. A monetary dispute is stated to be the reason behind the incident. Robin Hans, SHO, Ranjit Avenue police station, said investigation was on and efforts were being made to arrest the suspects. The family members told the police that Rajiv Kumar was under mental stress for the last few months. Some persons were not returning the money he had given them on loan. They accused were known to him. The police said the victim yesterday went to a prominent hotel in Ranjit Avenue area and later jumped from the sixth floor of the hotel. He was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police have started a probe and collected the footage of the CCTVs installed in the hotel. City consultant nabbed in police crackdown on illegal travel agents PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, February 12 Following the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants by US recently, the Punjab police have started tightening the noose around illegal immigration consultants here. The NRI wing of Punjab police has arrested a fake immigration consultant, identified as Suraj Sathiali, a resident of Sathiali in Gurdaspur, in a four-month old case here on Wednesday. He along with his accomplice, Bunti of Sathiali, was booked by police in October 2024 for allegedly duping Punjab Singh of Dullat village in Batala and his relative Daljit Singh of Indira Colony, Majitha road, Amritsar. The accused had assured to send them to Russia on work permit and visa. The deal was settled for Rs 2.80 lakh for sending the duo to Russia. Police investigations revealed that the accused sent them visa and tickets on their mobile which were later found to be fake. He said when the accused failed to send them abroad, they demanded their money back. Out of the total amount, they returned Rs 80,000 to them but failed to return the remaining amount. Amritsar, February 12 The city police have arrested a jeweller among five persons on charges of cross-border drug trafficking through drone. The cartel was being operated by a France-based Punjabi NRI along with their Pakistan-based associates. The police confiscated 2.25 kg of heroin, ~1.05 lakh drug money, a modern Glock pistol and a car from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Kiratpal Singh, alias Kirat (18), of Vila Teja village in Gurdaspur, Karanbir Singh (21) of Baupur Afghana, Dorangla (Gurdaspur), Sukhdeep Singh, alias Sukh (18), and and Pankaj Verma, alias Bablu (43), of Fatehgarh Churian (Gurdaspur), and Pyara Singh (40) of Ballarwal village in Ajnala here. Karanbir was the kingpin of the racket. He had earlier tried to flee to the US through the ‘dunki’ route, but was deported back to India. After this, he entered into an illegal drug trade. After getting the delivery of the contraband, they used to distribute it in Amritsar and other border areas,” said Bhullar while adding that investigations are on to find out their backward and forward links. He said Pankaj Verma, who works as a jeweller, was earlier arrested by the Pinjore police on charges of dacoity. Kiratpal Singh also had a case registered against him under the Arms Act at Batala. A case under Sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at the Islamabad police station here.
