Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said after getting a secret information that the scrap dealer was purchasing stolen bikes and selling these, the police raided and recovered a stolen bike and arrested the accused identified as Vinod Kumar of Hadiabad (Phagwara). A case had been registered against the arrested accused, said SP Bhatti. OC 'DRUGS PEDDLER' ARRESTED Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered five gm of heroin from his possession last night. The accused identified as Mani resident of Daddal Mohalla, Phagwara, was nabbed by a police team at a check-point near Sewa Kendra in the Baba Gadhia locality, Phagwara. A case under the NDPS Act had been registered against the peddler. OC WOMAN AMONG 3 PEDDLERS HELD Phagwara: The Lohian police have arrested a woman 'drug peddler' on the charge of selling intoxicated tablets. As many as 107 tablets (loose) were recovered from the possession of Priya of Nawan Pind Khalewal village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. Meanwhile, the Nakodar police have arrested two drug peddlers Ramandeep of Shankar village and Sagar of Bajuha Kalan village with 116 tablets. OC SSPs carry out checks at nakas in war against drugs 17 overloaded vehicles impounded Talwara, March 6 Regional Transport Officer Ravinder Singh Gill and Assistant Regional Transport Officer Sandeep Bharti, along with their team, inspected the vehicles passing through the escape channel of Mukerian Hydel Canal near Adda Jhir Da Khuh late night and impounded 17 overloaded tippers and trucks passing through the bridge. The officials also impounded four tourist buses of Jammu and Kashmir for passing through Talwara without paying the Motor Vehicle Tax of Punjab. A fine of Rs 7.35 lakh was imposed on the vehicles under the Act. The Talwara Hajipur Khana Roko Bhoomi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has been demanding a ban on vehicles passing through this area for long. Additional Superintending Engineer, PSPCL, Talwara, had also written a letter to the SDM, Mukerian, requesting to stop the illegal movement of overloaded vehicles. The SDM had asked RTO, Hoshiarpur, Ravinder Singh Gill to take necessary action. — OC Questions officials on just 30-day job for MGNREGA workers Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 7 Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched by the government, the Kapurthala police, under SSP Gaurav Toora, conducted strict inspections and checking under Operation Seal-9. Toora made a surprise visit to various check-points, checkposts and entry points late at night and early in the morning. The SSP said under the war on drugs, 28 smugglers had been arrested and 27 cases had been registered in the last six days. Apart from this, 16 drug-affected areas had been identified and drug awareness campaign had also been started in the affected areas. Toora said under the antidrug campaign launched by the government, along with checking the entry points of the district today, the officials were given strict instructions that no anti-social activity or suspicious person should be allowed to enter the district without checking. He said all SHOs had also been ordered to identify drug Jalandhar, March 7 Nine months since he got elected as MP from Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi chaired the first meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) at the District Administrative Complex here. I have sent proposals to the tune of Rs 50 lakh in each of the 10 Assembly segments. I have made sure that there is equal distribution of grants in each area. A total of 235 documents were registered in Jalandhar, including 107 in Jalandhar-1, 75 in Jalandhar-2, 21 in Nakodar, 12 in Phillaur, eight in Goraya, six in Nurmhal and four in Lohian. — TNS Kin block road as 3 beaten up by cops Jalandhar, March 7 Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal today directed officials of the Punjab Pollution Control Board to ensure strict adherence to the Prevention of Pollution Control Act during the operation of boilers in Bhogpur. The directions were given to officials during a high-level meeting. The DC said measures should be taken to manage smoke emissions during boiler operations in Bhogpur. He emphasised that there would be no leniency on this matter and strict actions would be initiated in case of any failure. He said instructions related to regulations have already been issued by the Punjab Pollution Control Board under which the boiler operators will be required to deposit a bank guarantee. In case of smoke emissions from the boiler, the bank guarantee will be confiscated and action will be taken to shut down the boiler. Dr Aggarwal said the smoke emissions from the boiler should be handled at the site itself and if the smoke reaches nearby houses, strict action will be taken against such units. He said the district administration would ensure that the residents of the area do not face such issues and, therefore, the implementation of the Pollution Control Act’s provisions will be made certain. He also said in case of violation, the boiler could be shut down. He noted that the smoke emissions from the boiler are managed in an environment-friendly manner using modern technology. Dr Aggarwal also directed the operators of the Bio-CNG plant in Bhogpur to comply with the regulations. He further emphasised the need to strictly adhere to the guidelines and provisions of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and the Act. The DC directed the Pollution Control Board officials to regularly inspect the boilers and the Bio-CNG plant according to government norms. He also appealed that the orders of the High Court regarding Bio-CNG should be followed thoroughly. Additionally, he issued instructions that if any shortcomings related to pollution are found, the administration will take stringent action. Jalandhar, March 7 The rural police on Friday arrested a ‘drug smuggler’ and recovered 45 gram of heroin and ~3000 drug money. The operation was initiated as per the directions of Gurmeet Singh, SSP Jaland, har (Rural), under a special campaign against drugs. It was led by Sarwan Singh Bal, DSP Sub-Division, Phillaur, , and his police team. Gurmeet Singh said on March 6, Sub Inspector Gursharan Singh, ASI Sukhwinder Pal and the police team arrested a person near the bus stop, Kotli Khakhya. The accused was identified as Sarabjit Singh, alias Sabi, of Ravidas Mohalla, Goraya. During the search, the police recovered 45 gram of heroin and ~3000 cash. A case was registered against the accused and the accused was produced in the court of the Area Magistrate, Phillaur, and police remand was obtained.— TNS ADMISSIONS OPEN 2025-26 NURSERY TO XII Chowki in-charge, cops sent to Police Lines Hoshiarpur, March 6 The case of alleged public thrashing of three persons by the police at Purheeran in Hoshiarpur last night is the talk of the town. In protest against the beating up by police, the victims’ kin and supporters blocked the the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road in front of the police post and raised slogans against the police and demanded action against the guilty. Makhan Singh of Mohalla New Fatehgarh said the policemen of Purheera post had taken away his nephew’s motorcycle. He said he had the RC . The police personnel asked him to come to the post with the bike papers and when he and his nephew reached the post, the policemen were already beating up a person. He said after this, the three police personnel started beating them up brutally. Makhan alleged that the policemen were drunk. As soon as the kin came to know about the incident, supporters and family members of the victim blocked the highway and the blockade was removed only after the SHO pacified them. DSP City, Devdutt Sharma , said outpost in-charge Sanjeev Kumar and the police personnel had been shifted to Police Lines.
