A VB spokesperson said deed writer was arrested on the basis of an online complaint filed by Phagwara resident in which he alleged that the accused had demanded and accepted bribe for the execution of a sale deed. During investigation, the VB found allegations to be true, leading to the arrest of the accused. OC MAN DUPED OF ~4.91 LAKH Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a travel agent couple for allegedly duping a man of Rs 4.91 lakh on the pretext of sending his children abroad. Shahkot DSP Onkar Singh Brar said the accused were identified as Budh Dass and his wife Charanjit Kaur of Bajigar Dera under the Salem Taabri police station in Ludhiana. Sukhdev Raj of Sangowl village complained to the police that he paid Rs 4.91 lakh to the accused for facilitating migration of his children abroad. However, they neither sent his children abroad nor returned money. OC Chaos unleashed in city on Holi, dhaba owner attacked, vehicles vandalised Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 15 Two acts of hooliganism rocked the city during Holi celebrations as unidentified miscreants wreaked havoc in separate incidents. In the first incident, a dhaba owner near the city bus stand was attacked, while the other involved vandalisation of vehicles in Santoshi Nagar. Around half a dozen armed assailants stormed Prince Dhaba near the Jalandhar city bus stand around 8 pm on Friday. Armed with swords and other weapons, the attackers targeted dhaba owner Varun, who was inside the establishment. When an employee attempted to intervene, he was brutally beaten with swords and baseball bats. The assailants fled the scene after injuring Varun and two of his employees. Upon receiving information, officials from the Division No. 6 bus stand police post arrived at the spot for investigation. Despite ongoing discussions for reconciliation, the attackers took advantage of the festive occasion to strike at the dhaba. Varun has urged the police to take strict action against culprits. In another incident, over 12 assailants stormed a house in Santoshi Nagar’s lane No. 4 on Friday night. Arriving on more than 10 two-wheelers, the attackers wielded sharp weapons and brass knuckles. When the family sensed danger and secured themselves inside their house, the attackers resorted to breaking windows of parked vehicles. The entire incident was captured in footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the lane. An e-rickshaw driver, who attempted to stop miscreants, from vandalising vehicles was also assaulted by assailants. The police have launched an investigation into the case, but no arrests have been made yet. The police authorities said they were currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify attackers. Parking dispute turns ugly as policeman ‘assaults’ youngster Jalandhar, March 15 In an incident at Jalandhar Heights I on the 66ft road, a minor parking dispute escalated when a police officer (SHO, Bhogpur), who lives in the same society, allegedly slapped a youngster and pointed his service revolver at him on Friday night. The victim, identified as Anmol Singh, had come to visit a friend after Holi celebrations when the altercation occurred. According to information, Anmol and his friends were standing near the parking area when the cop, allegedly in an inebriated state, began misbehaving and hurling abuses at them. When youngsters responded, the situation intensified and the SHO allegedly slapped Anmol. Six women scrap collectors held 3 members of looters’ gang arrested Phagwara, March 15 The police have cracked the controversial case of tearing a religious poster at Gol Chowk on March 12 evening with the arrest of six women. Those arrested were identified as Hema, Rani and Pammi, all residents of Pehchan Nagar, and Bimla, Meenu and Phoola Devi, all residents of Soondh Colony here. A case was registered against six accused under Sections 299 and 303(2) BNS in this regard. Addressing a press conference here today, SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the arrested accused had confessed to their crime and disclosed that they all were scrap collectors and removed religious poster to extract pipes which were to be sold later. The police recovered two pipes installed to display poster, the SP said. — OC Anmol’s father Paru Singh claimed that the SHO not only thrashed his son, but also pointed his service revolver at him. He further alleged that the SHO’s gunman held Anmol at gunpoint and deleted all videos of the incident from his iPhone. Paru Singh said Anmol sustained injuries, including a fractured finger, and was currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. “We have filed a formal complaint in this regard at the Jalandhar Heights police post and our statements have been recorded,” he said. Addressing mediapersons, Sarwan Singh Bal, DSP, Phillaur, said all three accused had been meticulously planning heists. He said their modus operandi was to injure victims before robbing them. In one of the recent incidents, the gang snatched Rs 17,500 from Roop Lal, a resident of Bholewal village, regarding which a case was registered by the Phillaur police, he said. The three arrested members of the gang were identified as — Sandeep Singh, alias Deepa, a resident Ashahur; Deepak, alias Deepu, a resident of Ramgarh, and Sukam Subham, alias Sabi, a resident of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, the DSP said. A case was registered on Thursday under Sections 309 and 111 of the BNS against the trio at the Phillaur police station, the DSP said. Shubham and his accomplices had been involved in looting and snatching incidents for a long time, he said. Shubham and his accomplices had recently attacked a garment trader on the Akalpur road in Phillaur and looted Rs 10,000 from him, the DSP said. A case had been registered under Sections 309 (theft), 310-2 (dacoity), 111 (organised crime) and 332 (house trespass) of the BNS at the Phillaur police station November 19, 2024, in this connection, the DSP added. Sandeep and Deepak, along with their other accomplices, had attacked a youth involved an ongoing land dispute at Kadhiana village, Jhandi peer, near the Sutlej river with sharp weapons on January 8 this year, he said. A case was registered against the duo on January 16, 2025, under various sections of the BNS at the Phillaur police station in this connection, the DSP said. The police recovered two bikes, five mobile phones and sharp weapons from the accused, he added. Man threatening shop owners lands in police net Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 15 The Commissionerate Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur, have taken decisive action against criminal elements in the city by arresting a person involved in threatening local shop owners with deadly weapons and extorting money from them in the Bhargo Camp area. The arrest was made following registration of FIR No. 41, at the Bhargo Camp police sta- tion. The case was registered under Sections 308(2), 351(1,3), 191(3) and 190 of the BNS in this connection. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajaypal Singh, alias Nihang, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Basti Shekh. His accomplices were identified as Gora, a resident of Main Bazaar, Bhargo Camp, Gagan, alias Billa Kanchi, a resident of Champali Chowk, and Billa and Vansh, both residents of Budha Mal Ground, Jalandhar. According to the FIR, the group had been intimidating shop owners in the Bhargo Camp area and using weapons to extort money from them. Acting on credible information, a police team from Bhargo Camp launched a swift operation and successfully apprehended one of the prime accused Ajaypal Singh. The CP said the arrested accused was presented before court and brought on police remand for further questioning. The CP said, “The police are actively pursuing the remaining accused and are confident of their imminent arrest.” Emphasising on the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order, the CP said the police were dedicated to eliminating criminal activities from the city and ensure safety of residents. She assured the public that the Commissionerate Police would continue their rigorous efforts to make Jalandhar more secure place. “An investigation is going on. According to information, Ram Das of Nasran village told the Sadar police that his son Prince was working as a chef in a cafe near Shimla Pahari. On March 7, he was returning home from work when an unidentified vehicle hit him near Islamabad. Prince was first taken to the Civil Hospital in an injured condition from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. He died during treatment there. In second incident, Mehar Singh of Fatehpur village told officials of the Hariana police station that his son Tanveer Singh (12) was returning to village from Bhunga. A tractortrailer hit his son near Kabirpur and he died on the spot. The police registered a case against tractor-trailer driver Daljit Singh of Fatehpur. In third incident, Jagdeep Singh of Kandiala village in Tarn Taran district told the Garhshankar police that his nephew Pawandeep Singh (19) of Kanda Nanaksar was going to Anandpur Sahib on a bike. When he reached Garhshankar-Anandpur Sahib road, a bike, driven on the wrong side, hit him. His nephew was referred from Garhshankar hospital to Amritsar hospital in an injured condition where he died during treatment. In fourth incident, Raees Ahmedof Jwalapur Haridwar told the Dasuya police that his brother Waris was coming towards Dasuya railway station. While crossing road, a car passing by hit his brother. His brother was referred from Dasuya hospital to Amritsar hospital in an injured condition where he died. The police registered a case against car driver Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Simbal Camp, Jammu, in this connection. — OC Set to leave for UK on studyvisa,Wushuplayer dies in road accident Our Correspondent Tanda Urmar, March 15 National level Wushu player Anjali Gill died in a road accident near Shahbazpur village of Tanda tehsil in Hoshiarpur district. According to information received, Anjali had to go to England on April 14 on a study visa for which she was busy preparing. In this connection, she had bought a new laptop on Friday. Taking along the new laptop, she went to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Pul Pukhta Sahib on a motorcycle with another student, Pratham, a resident of Jaja. After paying obeisance at the gurdwara, she was returning when a speeding tractor-trailer coming back from Hola Mohalla celebrations in Sri Anandpur Sahib hit their bike near Shahbazpur village. Anjali Gill was seriously injured in the accident. She was rushed to a hospital in Jalandhar, but died on the way. On the basis of the statement of Pratham, who was also injured in the accident, the police registered a case against the tractortrailer driver, Santokh Singh, a resident of Gadrian village in Gurdaspur district. Anjali Gill was a national-level Wushu player. She also served as a coach at Tanda United Sports Club.
