They attacked the lone woman when she was returning home. The incident occurred on the South City road when the woman, working with a real estate company, was returning home from work on her Honda Activa. She stopped her vehicle when another woman, who was standing in the middle of the road, asked for a lift from her. When she stopped the vehicle, four persons on two bikes came and asked to had over her valuables to them. When she resisted their move, she was attacked by the four men and the woman. The suspects took away her cash, gold earrings and a ring at knifepoint. The PAU police are investigating the matter. It is not an isolated case in Ludhiana. Snatchers and robbers are targeting vulnerable victims across the city. During the recent visit of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal to Ludhiana, a resident had raised concern over rising incidents of loot in the city to which the CM had asked the Commissioner of Police (CP) to give a reply. The CP , Kuldip Chahal, had said the number of snatching incidents had come down but in days to come, these would Body of 22-yr-old teacher found Ludhiana, March 22 The body of a teacher was found in mysterious circumstances in the city. The victim has been identified as 22year-old Jyoti. The police are investigating to ascertain whether it is a case of suicide or murder. The teacher was a resident of Preet Nagar, Shimlapuri area. She is survived by her mother and two brothers. The woman was teaching at a playway school in the area. On March 20, when a vehicle driver, Vinod Kumar, was returning to his home, miscreants tried to loot his mobile phone, when he refused, he was attacked with an iron rod. The man had to be operated upon due to his injuries. In two such loot incidents in January, a person was attacked in the head while another person received seven stitches in his hand. Two snatchers nabbed Meanwhile, two snatchers were arrested by the Sahnewal police on Saturday. Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, and Dalvir Singh, alias Sonu, were nabbed by the police and a motorcycle, four mobile phones and an iron rod were recovered from them. The suspects were involved in several loot and snatching incidents in the past. MP distributes NOCs among residents at GLADA camp Tribune News Service Ludhiana, March 22 Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora visited the NOC camp for residents conducted by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on 200-feet Road, near Flower Enclave, Ludhiana, on Saturday. Says all backlog to be cleared till March 31 On the occasion, Arora distributed 25 no objection certificates (NOCs) among the residents. Speaking on the occasion, he said the GLADA office was taking steps to facilitate applicants seeking regularisation of plots and buildings in unauthorised colonies, adding that to accommodate them, the GLADA office was assisting the public by organising special NOC camps. The camps provide a platform for the applicants to address any NOC-related issues and obtain necessary certificates. He said GLADA would hold such camps every week for facilitating the public. Arora said he was not aware of the situation that the people were facing problems due to the NOC. According to the police, Munna Kumar, the father of the girl, has got a complaint registered against Pawan Kumar of Ekta Colony. Following which, a case was registered against the suspect. He alleged that the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, came to his shop and started playing Holi with his daughter. When she objected, the youth tore her clothes and molested her. — TNS Covid volunteers protest outside RS MP’s house, seek regular jobs Covid volunteers hold a protest outside MP Sanjeev Arora’s house in Ludhiana. ASHWANI DHIMAN Tribune News Service Ludhiana, March 22 The Punjab Police Corona Volunteers held a protest outside MP Sanjeev Arora’s house here on Saturday. Volunteers were demanding that they should be regularised by the state government as they did not think twice to risk their lives during the pandemic. The president of the association Pawanvir said they were total 160 in number, belonging to various districts across the state. He said health volunteers, who had worked during the Covid-19 pandemic, were regularised by the government whereas they were left in the lurch. The volunteers said they held a protest and demanded from the government to regularise them. They claimed that the MP had given an assurance to take up the matter with the government. The volunteers also met Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain. Kulwant Singh, another volunteer, said they came forward in difficult times when nobody wanted to take any risk to their lives. He said for the past around five years, they were struggling for their rights. Meanwhile, DC Himanshu Jain said the matter was already under active consideration of the community affairs division of the Punjab Police. Details have been sought by them. “We are sending the memorandum of the volunteers submitted on Saturday to them for their consideration,” the DC said.
