This actor-director partnership is built on mutual admiration and trust. When Karan Anshuman directorial Rana Naidu streamed in 2023, Tanuj was blown. He reached out to Karan and asked him to write a role for him in the subsequent show, howsoever small. And now, the second season of the action-crime drama sees the duo come together. Tanuj plays Chirag Oberoi, an heir to family business. As he gets stuck with a deal, the star fixer, Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati), is called. Will he make this deal or break it is what Season 2 is all about. Busy promoting the show, Tanuj shares , “I see it as a privilege to be part of Rana Naidu and its incredible team!” He started his career with Luv U Soniyo some 12 years ago and became part of films like Purani Jeans, One Night Stand, Yodha and Let’s Meet before he shifted his focus to OTT. As Rati took a 16-year-long sabbatical to focus on family, just knew that she used to be an actress. However, as an actor he is interested in his character, not the format. He feels that there is enough audience for both cinema and OTT. The only thing he sees on the downside is quantity taking over quality. “With new platforms mushrooming up, there is demand for content,” he says. Tanuj preps for a role seriously. An ‘amateure writer’ that he calls himself, and uses his writing skills to pen a backstory for all his characters. “It gives me an outline as how to go about it!” But no, he is not taking writing seriously, not yet. It’s acting which gives him the satisfaction. His real-life love story as filmy as his films. He knew Tanya Jacob as they were family friends. They continued their relationship even after she moved to Singapore. Since long-distance relationship was becoming tough to carry on, they decided to live- No matter how important is your surname, you have to have talent to continue working in the industry. She pointed out that it would be my day too. And it hit me – it will be my first!” Tanuj has an actioner with Applause on the anvil. And two films, including Johnny Jumper, in which he plays the titular role. The other one is a romcom. “I thought it would be good change of pace to do a love story.” Rana Naidu 2 will stream on June 13 on Netflix. By his side is Natasha (Diana Penty), a poised and bril- liant investigator with a mind as sharp as her presence is striking. As the two dig deeper into the tangled web of family secrets, betrayals and billion-dollar motives, the case becomes increasingly twisted and unpredictable, as shown in the trailer. Chhabriya and Zafar have also penned the script with Sagar Bajaj The film is set to premiere on Zee5 on June 20. — TNS Nagarjuna lauds the actress’ recent box office performances ‘Rashmika has beaten all of us’ Superstar Nagarjuna lauded Rashmika Mandanna for her recent box office performances at the audio launch of Kuberaa’s third single Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum in Mumbai on Tuesday. The film, Kuberaa, is directed by Sekhar Kammula and it stars Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarabh in the lead roles. While interacting with the media at the launch, Nagarjuna called Rashmika a ‘powerhouse’ of talent. He lauded the box office performances of the Rashmikastarrer films and said, “This girl is one powerhouse of talent. Just see her filmography in the last three years, it is just outstanding. None of us have Rs 2000-3000 crore films. She is the one who has beaten all of us.” In the last two years, Rashmika Mandanna has starred in three block- buster movies, which include Animal, Pushpa 2 and Chhaava. She was last seen in Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar, which also performed well at the box office. The actress humbly said that she feels she has ‘only just begun’ and doesn’t quite understand the ‘race’ to be number one. “I feel like I honestly have just started because I don’t know what this whole number one situation is, because we’re doing films in the South, we’re doing films in Bollywood. I don’t know what this race is about, but I know for sure that I’m just starting,” said Rashmika while interacting with the media in Mumbai. Kuberaa is set to release in theatres on June 20. — ANI NOSTALGIC TRIP Dhanush said his upcoming film Kuberaa reminded him of his ‘humble beginnings’. Dhanush, who essays the role of a beggar, recalled how the team shot a scene at a dumpyard for hours. “I come from very humble background. I’m very thankful to this film for many reasons, but most of all because it takes me back to my childhood,” the actor said.
