The arrested individual, identified as Joga Singh, is considered an aide of Khaira and was wanted in connection with a major drug trafficking case dating back to 2015. According to police sources, the operation was carried out by the Fazilka police, which claim that during the 2015 crackdown, the authorities had seized 2 kg of heroin, 24 gold biscuits, two Pakistani SIM cards, and a vehicle. The case had led to the registration of cases against nine individuals, including a former chairman of the Dhilwan Market Committee. Investigators say Joga Singh’s name emerged during the probe, prompting years-long search for him. The seriousness of the case had earlier prompted the government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Ludhiana police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. In connection with the same case, Congress legislator Khaira was previously arrested, although he has consistently denied any involvement. Joga Singh’s arrest is expected to trigger renewed political sparring in the state, with the Opposition likely to intensify its attacks on the government. Police officials have indicated that further interrogation could lead to new revelations in the highprofile narcotics case. Ban song 315 bore, book two singers: City activist to Addl Chief Secy, DGP Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 9 Jalandhar activist Simranjeet Singh has written to the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Homes, Affairs & Justice, the DGP and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, seeking the registration of an FIR against singers R Nait and Gurlez Akhtar and seeking a ban on their song ‘315 bore’ on social all media platforms. The activist’s complaint to officials today alleged that there was a “display of weapons” and glorification of a “dangerous gangster image” in the song. The video of the song, which was released 2 weeks ago, has already amassed 3.8 million views on Youtube. The song “315 bore” named after a rifle, features a generous display of firearms and various characters brandishing them. In his letter, the activist states, “The state government has already issued instructions that no singer or artiste should sing or promote display of weapons or gangster mentality.” The complaint further states, “The video of the song displays weapons and glori- fies a dangerous gangster image. The video shows Punjabi model and self-proclaimed social worker Bhaana Sidhu acting with weapons, which could have a negative influence on the youth. Singer R Nait and Gurlez Akhtar has encouraged weapons in his song, which has violated the directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. While singing these lines, the singer has also made an unnecessary display of weapons and described violence as his virtue. Doing so is tantamount to encouraging the illegal use of weapons.” Concluding his complaint, the activist has sought the registration of an FIR against the singers, baning the song and taking of legal action against the director, producer and singers of the song. Under fire from the Opposition on the issue, the state government had, in November 2022, initiated various measures against gun culture, including the imposition of ban on songs promoting gun culture and violence and the public display of firearms. The state government had also ordered a review of arm licences. c m y b Action has been sought against singers R Nait and Gurlez Akhtar for blatantly promoting gun violence.
